Rockpup Posted May 13, 2004 Posted May 13, 2004 Jinxie: I've had pointe shoes longer then I have had ballet boots.. and without any prior training I think the boots are easier. Of course thats like asking which is dirtier, soot or ash. Both require practice and carefull use to prevent injury. My main exercise history prior to getting into this was from inline skating/trick skating.. the strength and flexibility in my ankles has prevented more then one injury, or so it has seemed to me. I was just in the store Fetish-Factory and wanted to try out a pair of size 8 Qualifetish lace up thigh high ballet boots.. I currently own, and wore for a few hours last night, a pair of zip up thigh highs from them, but those are size 9 instead. The sales girl imediatly let me know that 'no-one can walk in those style boots'.. I understand her point as further into the conversation she mentioned they have had people try to stand up wrong in ballet heels and snap the heel off.. and then leave. Well.. after a few minutes of talking she trusted me to not only try on the displays mate, but unlace and try on the display model as well.. Unfortunatly since the qualifetish boots do not have speed laces, and with the softness of the leather, lacing these boots is a very time intencive process. I got half way up my calf and put a little weight on my foot.. unfortunatly their shape doesnt support my foot and all the weight went right on my second toe By this point the sales girl was disapointed since she really wanted to see someone who could walk in them. I guess I will have to stop by wearing a pair of my own boots and shop while wearing them *Grin* Oh well.. btw, if you have been looking at qualifetish boots check out http://store.fetish-factory.com and check out their sales prices. Unfortunatly they only have a few sizes in stock, but they are often 10 and 12. The sale does not extend to in person sales.. odd Onto tonights practice. Currently in my devious ankle boots, plan to wear them for as long as possible tonight. The other night I only had 4 hours to wear them, maybe I can go for 6? maybe till morning? I'll let you know. I've got the house to myself so I may even update balletboots.net... If I can figure out what to do with it. Seeya Jim (formerly known as "JimC")
azraelle Posted May 13, 2004 Posted May 13, 2004 I wonder if the fascination with "ballet boots" among guys stems from the fact that learning au point in dance and/or ballet was, and if I'm not mistaken, still is a skill unavailable to them. I confess no urge to wear them. I also confess that one of the major things that made me like Michael Jackson, and disbelieve his child molestation philanderings for so long was his ability to do pointe as a real guy. I wanted to take ballet in the worst way as a child, until I found out in the 4th grade that ONLY GIRLS were allowed to do pointe. I am not a particular afficianado of ballet, but I have been to a number of performances, and seen many more on TV, and NEVER have I seen a guy doing pointe. Bottom line: I think that ballet boots represent a counterfeit of something yearned for as a child, but denied, even more unattainable than wearing hi-heels or other femminine attire. After all, you knew that you could secretly go out and BUY the clothing. But how can a child coerce the dance establishment to teach a boy how to dance like a girl?? Especially with his parents looking on. It is doubly damning when he knows that either he gets the training now, while his bones (and brain) are still forming, or he will never be able to--at least that was what was taught 40 years ago. This was one more reason for fascination with Michael Jackson--he was an adult, and he was still able to learn to do it--maybe there is still hope after all. Is there, really?? "All that you can decide, is what to do with the time that is given you."--Gandalf, "Life is not tried, it is merely survived -If you're standing outside the fire."--Garth Brooks
Rockpup Posted May 14, 2004 Posted May 14, 2004 azrael: Interesting theory. Not exactly sure if I can agree 100%. I never paid attention to ballet when younger, although an interest in lycra wear lead me in the direction of dancewear a while back, I am not sure if thats 100% linked to ballet boots. I have other footwear that holds the foot in the same position as ballet boots, they are made by adidas for the sport of Luge.. Winter luge, not street luge These can be walked in, but not easily as they try like hell to get you to point your foot out. is a good example. Practical? No. Fun? For me, yes I've pretty much stopped worrying about where my odd interests come from, I just go with it Ballet boots are probably safer for me then doing 115mph wheelies through traffic on a sports bike, and I've given that up recently. JinxieKat Posted May 22, 2004 Author Posted May 22, 2004 I should be getting my corset back next week! Wheeee! She is fixing the stay pockest so I won't have problems again. If I do, well.. I won't be buying from her again. I hope I don't have any problems because the fit of the corset is perfect. Ahh well. I'll post here once I get it. I haven't made much progress in the ballet heel wearing, it just seems to go with the corset for me and I just haven't been in the mood to try. Now on the other hand my everyday heel wearing has increased. I've found that I can wear 3 inch heels with no more foot fatigue than I do in my flats after a long friday at work spending at least half of it on my feet. Considering that two or three years ago 5 minutes in heels would be painful I consider this to be quite the acomplishment. Of course I've been wearing higher than the 3 inches to work most days, I just went with lower because I am there 4 more hours than usual on friday. Now if I could do the same with my 5 inch heels... hehe! JinxieKat
JinxieKat Posted June 8, 2004 Author Posted June 8, 2004 Wheee! I finally got my corset back! On the upside I can fully close it, on the down side it is because with the new weight I've lost my natural waist has shrunk quite a bit.... Ooopssss. Oh well. It still does lovely things for my figure. I wore it to work with a fitted top, not tight, just fitted. I had one customer ask me how I got such a tiny waist. I wasn't brave enough to tell so I just contributed it to good genes *lol* Oh well, maybe next time. The shoes are going well. I can totter further in them each time I try. Perhaps I'll manage to get graceful sometime soon. Hmm.. maybe. JinxieKat
Rockpup Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 The fitted corset is not a bad thing, can be a nice dramatic fashion statement without getting uncomfortable after a while. Although now you might know what sizing you'd want at this point. Good to hear the ballet heels are going well also! I'm getting closer to having a 'normal' stride while wearing ballet heels, not for long distance, but I am slowly getting there. I can now stand without bent knee's and no support for a while.. even with saran-wrap holding my arms down.. My corset still sits neglected since I had abdominal surgery.. even though I am probably 100% recovered I'd rather not split anything open since where I was perforated is right along the lower rib cage.. oh well Have a great one, nice to hear the updates Jim (formerly known as "JimC")
JinxieKat Posted June 20, 2004 Author Posted June 20, 2004 Hey all, Haven't posted in a bit. I manged to bruise the top of my foot and side of my ankle at work. I backed into the corner of a wall while trying to move something. OUCH! Oddly enough I only had a pair of kitten heels on that day, I have an outfit that the only pair of shoes I have that goes with it is the kittens, instead of my usual heels. I actually think it would haven't been as bad if I had been in normal heels, less of my foot would have hit the corner I think. Figures Anyway my corset is just about too big these days, and for the most part I"m not complaining! I think I'm going to try my hand at altering it slightly, there are two mainly straight panels in the front and back that I bet I could take a 1/4 inch tuck on without too much grief. Doesn't hurt to try since I think in a pound or two it is going to be useless anyway. I've stalled on the ballet heels with the foot thang, though I'm going to be trying a rather strict training regimine starting this eve. I"m actually going to be doing ballet barre exercises in them. The challenge was finding a surface I can hold onto that is high enough while I"m in the heels. I belive that the island in my kitchen will serve well enough for now. I know these exercises will increase my flexibility, balance, and strenght while helping with the mental confidence by providing something to cling too. I'll let you know how it works! JinxieKat
Nova Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 Since I don't know where to find corset forums (yet), I'll ask here. Is there any way to lace a 'proper' corset by yourself? The descriptions I've seen require another person to pull the laces in a specific order. It would be nice if I could do it myself. Thanks, Jen If all the world's a stage, I want to operate the trap door.
JeffM Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 Hi Jennifer Try this site http://www.staylace.com/ Scroll down the left side menu to "Tips" It has a wealth of information. I am sure you will find out what you want to know there. But if not try "One on one contact" with the person who runs the site, he answers all quiries in only a few days. They also run a chat room where you could ask questions of the other participants in real time. Best wishes Jeff
JeffM Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 Jennifer I found this to start you off on your search. I am sure there will be much more you will find with a proper search. From: "Anonymous" (7 November 01) The difference between a loose corset and a tightly laced is the of lace to be tightened with the slack: usually 15'..20'. The corsetee could place this slack in front of her hooked at the door handle. Many sleeping rooms, private bathrooms, have a solid hook screwed in the wall near the mirror. My Granna remembered that when her mother got dressed on Sunday mornings in the upper room, she hooked the slack on the bedpost and the children could hear the bedposts screeching on the waxed floor. From: Jim (2 May 99) First I take up all the slack I can and tie off the ends in front. Next, I start picking at the individual laces till I get enough slack again to retie the ends in front. The main problem to this is keeping the upper and lower laces from becoming tangled. From: Bill (24 Mar 99) I use the doorknob on the closet door to hold the loops of the corset lace while I walk away. As I move away from the door, I pull the strings about 3 eyelet holes away from the puller lace, which gives them enough slack to be pulled in tighter. I continue this from both top and bottom until the desired tightness is achieved, then I tie the puller laces together. Works great, so long as you have enough dexterity in your arms and fingers to reach around behind and get your fingers into the laces. A little practice should make it easy. Again Best wishes Jeff
JinxieKat Posted July 2, 2004 Author Posted July 2, 2004 Hey Jen, Another great place for info is www.waspcreations.com She does sell corsets but she has very good information on how to lace up corsets and other very detailed articles on corsets. Hope that helps! Come here to ask any other questions you may have. Corsets are my favorite topic JinxieKat
JeffM Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 Hi Jinxiekat, Just wondering how the ballet heels and corset training is going. Have heard nothing from you on this since you were going to start training using your island bench top. Hope you havent injured your self again. Jeff
JinxieKat Posted August 18, 2004 Author Posted August 18, 2004 Actually Jeff I haven't injured myself but I may have a muscular disease that for the moment has put things on hold. I'm slowly working back into wearing heels after not wearing them at all over the last 4 weeks. It's been rather depressing to say the least, the worst part being the BLEEPity BLEEP doctor who has had my test results for three weeks but has been 'very busy' and hasn't gotten back to me. Oi, I haven't even met this specialist yet and I'm going to find another if at all possible since I didn't hear from him again today. The corset work has been fine, I need a new one badly, I altered my old one, taking it in about three inches I think, haven't measured it really, but I am able to fully close it now as well. I'll have to take a tape measure to it. I do know that my natural waist has changed from a 37 to a 33 thanks to both corset and diet. I'm just on status quo right now, medicine sucks. Ahh well! Things will get better! Jinxie
JeffM Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 Hi Jinxie I dont how your medical system works but if it was me and I was told the doctor was too busy to see me after he got the results back I would be demanding a copy of those and going to see another doctor. Its a service that I pay for, not a priviledge to see the doctor. No service, then I go some where else to get what I want. Any way best of luck. I certainly hope you're on ther mend very soon. And heres hoping for a new corset soon too. Best wishes Jeff
JinxieKat Posted October 22, 2004 Author Posted October 22, 2004 Hey all, I'm refreshing this thread since I just got my clean bill of health. Whoot! I should be at 100% soon. I picked up a virus (Parvo of all things if you didn't see my other post.) and am now on the road to recovery. I should have my new corset about Nov 6th. It is going to be a lovely royal purple underbust corset from wasp creations. I'll see if I can figure out how to post a picture once I get it in. Unfortunately I've discovered with my.. lesse.. 4 month hiatus from wearing any but low (2 inches and under) heels I have taken some serious steps backwards in my quest on wearing ballet heels and higher high heels in general. So for now I've got some new 3 inch heels to wear to work every day. My winter shoe wardrobe *lol* That's going easily, so I need to graduate up to 4 inches for work here shortly and alternate days I think. I've got my eye on a pair from Chinese Laundry called Spicey. I got the chance to try them on the other day and they are lovely. I'm also working on my general fitness and the Dr's have me doing some exercises for my knees as that is still the one place where I continue to have problems. Seems I have too much movement in my knees *boggle* I thought being flexible is good, but I guess in hips it is ok but knees it isn't. Go figure. Unless something else happens I'll post here when I get my corset. a 26 inch waist. *sigh* I can hardly wait. It is amazing since when I started the corset thing my natural waist was a 37. Between corseting and looseing weight my natural is down to a 33 and I can wear a corset down to 28 inches. Eventually I want to get it down to 20 inches. It is a doable goal I think! Ciao Jinxie
JinxieKat Posted October 26, 2004 Author Posted October 26, 2004 Hehe, it hasn't been quickly. Not the weight part of it anyway. Actually I dropped 70lbs in a year, then when I got sick they stuck me on steroids and I gained 10 of it back. I'm working on kicking that 10lbs again, then I'll go at the last 30. Likely it is going to take me a good year for this last bit. It has been a struggle. I did the 70 on the Weight Watchers program. Now I'm actually following a very natural diet. A combo of WW's new core plan and my own desires to avoid eating anything that has chemicals in it. If I cannot read it, I'm not eating it! The best part about the 'natural' diet is that I feel so much better, I didn't realise it until I went on vacation this past week and didn't cook at all and ate pretty much whatever I wished. Ugh, bad idea. I was so run down and awful feeling by the end of the week. The only change was my diet, sleep and stuff was normal. :-/ Had to be the food! Scotty has a thread on the board somewhere about looseing weight as well. I wish I could remember where it was. His is more a diary of how he did it week by week. Very interesting! You are very welcome! And thank you! Jinxie
JinxieKat Posted November 18, 2004 Author Posted November 18, 2004 Ok, it is time to update this diary again. I got my new corset in on Monday, it is _alot_ different from my old one. Oh my.. much stricter, tighter, stiffer, hmmm.. all and all very very nice. It is a lovey royal purple coutil and I keep forgetting to measure the waist, it will either bring my waist down to 27 or 26. It has a very, very stiff underbusk that helps keep my stomach rather smooth instead of puffing out like the last one did. I'm having a harder time getting used to this one though, it is that drasticly different. The new one is at least twice as heavy as the old one, amazing the difference. I'm in love As for the ballet heels, I'm making alot of progress with these this time around. I've almost got my knees straight, actually I can straighten them out, but it takes thought. If I"m just doing my short walking spurts then my knees tend to be bent. The oddest thing I've found that if I'm 'danceing' in them I will pull the heel off of the ground and balance on the toes That surprised the heck out of me the first time I did it, I almost fell over. Oopsss! I'm going to try to get brave enough to manage a picture or at least get some measurements going here soon. Jinxie
JeffM Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 Congrats Jinxie. Hope you can keep up the good work, dieting, corseting and ballet boots training. Best wishes Jeff
tightlevisandhhboots Posted October 8, 2005 Posted October 8, 2005 I have used corsets off and on over the last 4 years. I ordered my first custom corset from http://www.altered-tyme.com/custom%20corsets.htm I ordered the bella style, and have since ordered 2 more as my waist size continued to drop. Bella underbust This is not me, and I ordered min in white silk so that I could wear it under my military uniform. I started out with a 34" waist and 36" at the hips, and now I am 31" waist w/o the corset and a 28" waist with the corset. I think this is the smalest I will go, as being 6'4" with a 28" waist is small enough, and it has already caused my lower ribs to have been "re-formed" smaller. This has caused some shortness in breath when doing real mans work or running/jogging. You definitely have to continue to work your body overall, becuase if you wear the corset almost continuously as I did over a 2 month period, you can train your waist down quickly, but can easily hurt your back or other things when not wearing the corset later, so take you time, and keep excercising your back muscles, as just like with wearing heels, you can shorten your tendons, with a corset you can cause your back muscles to atrophy, that can lead to lots of other back/ muscle and even spinal problems. Good Luck ,and congratulations, but also be careful. TLAHHB
