meganiwish Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 So long, Keith. My Big Bro's hero, though not really my cup of tea. Still, with the help of Bernstein we have his funeral piece. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fK92hdp6u18
meganiwish Posted March 14, 2016 Author Posted March 14, 2016 What? Not one of you? Oscar Peterson rated him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvQIobg0BwU
Shyheels Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Only vaguely familiar with the guy, I'm afraid. Comes of growing up elsewhere, with different touchstones...
Shyheels Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Ah...I am more with you now. Or more awake at any rate. Yes, I am certainly familiar with Fanfare for The Common Man - I just hadn't realised Emerson, Lake and Palmer were the ones behind it.
Shyheels Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Sadder still...apparently he shot himself. The coroner has officially ruled his death a suicide.
meganiwish Posted March 17, 2016 Author Posted March 17, 2016 Yes. I believe he had terrible arthritis, or some such, a dreadful thing for a pianist.
Shyheels Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Indeed, but his response was rather drastic. He still had much to offer - teaching, writing, mentor, playing role of elder statesman etc. It just seems so rash...at least looking at it from the outside. Who knows what his inner demons were
