Nothing in Southampton that I know of.

Try Honour. They have a store just round the corner from Waterloo Station which should be handy for you. I suggest phoning ahead to check if they have your size in stock to avoid a wasted journey.

If you can get into UK8 or smaller then there are plenty of shops in both Oxford Street and Camden.

Some high street retailers go to a UK9 and sometimes have styles with 5" heels though often with some platform.

Don't be shy about popping in and trying some on, it's fun and even if they're only 4" heels you might even like them.

I have no idea if this is your style at all, but New Look have some gold or silver peeptoes with a 5" heel in a UK9:

They also have these black cross strap heels. If they're not 5" they're pretty close, and I've tried them on in store and they looked really elegant:

It looks like they have several stores in the Southampton area. I guess they may not routinely stock UK9's if there's no demand for them, but if you see a style you like maybe they can order it in for you. The staff at my usual branch are really friendly and helpful so I'm going back there and buying stuff whenever I can afford it.

Office shoes also show several high heel styles in a UK9 on their website and it says they have a store in WestQuay shopping centre. I've found their staff to be pretty cool too, though I only buy very occasionally from them in the sales as they're usually beyond my price range.

River Island must have a store local to you, and their website also shows several high heel styles in a UK9, including these with a 6" heel (with platform):

Again don't get your hopes up that you'll find many UK9's in stock, but again any of these stores should be able to order them in for you if they value good long-term customers.

Good luck, and do let us know what you find.

If you like it, wear it.

Hi Stevenjones, welcome to the site.

I can't remember the name of the shop but it's about halfway up on the left hand side as you go into the West Quay shopping centre from Above Bar Street...

About eighteen months ago I tried on & bought a pair of Jeffrey Campbell Damsel spikey ankle boots from them Although the young assistant was grinning like crazy to start with, we did end up having quite a long conversation about wearing heels. She did ask me if I wanted to wear them out of the shop but I didn't have the bottle. It's all down to your own confidence when you ask to try them on in a shop & obviously the number of other customers present will have an effect. Had the shop been packed with a horde of giggling teenage girlies I may well have given it a miss...

I can also echo Dr Shoe's comments about Honour & Camden in London - only an hour away by train. A lot of the assistants, (or the customers for that matter), won't even bother batting an eyelid in the shops in Camden High Street if you ask to try on heels. They're well used to all the 'alternative' types buying stuff like that. Not sure what Carnaby Street is like these days but, it used to be good for trying on larger sized ladies boots & shoes - I bought a pair of five-inch heeled thigh boots there in the 1980's.

You may also consider trying all the charity shops in Portswood, Bitterne or Shirley. It's amazing what they get in & in larger sizes too. One thing I have tried quite successfully in the past is walking boldly up to the assistant & asking if they have anything in my size that would be good for a fancy dress party. I picked up a lovely pair of spike-heeled platform shoes from a charity shop about five years ago by saying I was going to a fancy dress party as a tart. The assistant was so helpful that I ended up getting the whole outfit at the same shop & managed to try it all on to boot! (Please excuse the pun!) I still have the little pin-striped mini-skirt I bought there to this day.

Obviously I have been fairly lucky in my experiences. I'm definitely not the world's most confident person but if you act confidently & don't shy away the minute someone sniggers or laughs you should be ok & be able to get what you want.

Good luck with your shopping in Southampton & please let us know how you get on.

Carnaby Street has been spoiled by all the "big boys" moving in. If you want something from Punkyfish, Irregular Choice etc. then Carnaby Street is fine but there aren't any of the way out independent designer shops there any more.
