PJ Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 On my last few visits to Toronto, I went to see the musical Mamma Mia. Here is a little background information. Back in 1974, a singing group called ABBA won a European song contest. ABBA was composed of two male musician/singers and two female singers. They became known internationally as a result of winning that contest. And with their unique singing style and singable songs, they eventually became famous internationally. They performed all over the world until about 1982. In my case, I was and still am a big ABBA fan. I love most of their songs. So the only reason why I went to see Mamma Mia was to hear the 22 ABBA songs that are performed in the play. What is amazing about the play Mamma Mia is the way the production staff and writers were able to fit the songs in with the story line. Most of the time, when the cast sang one of the ABBA songs, the audience could not help but join in. And at the end of the play, the entire cast came out onstage in brightly colored costumes to lead the audience in singing such ABBA's megahits like Mamma Mia and Dancing Queen. You could not help notice the enthusiasm displayed by the entire cast. Even those with non-speaking parts seemed to be enjoying every minute they were out on stage, as revealed by their facial expressions. Because I'm also an amateur musician, I also enjoyed watching and listening to the orchestra. Never had I heard those ABBA songs played on such a thunderous speaker system. The experience was more enjoyable than I had expected. I plan on seeing the play again and again. click .... click .... click .... The sensual sound of stiletto heels on a hard surface.
Bubba136 Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 I like Abba, too. Being mentally comfortable in your own mind is the key to wearing heels in public.
BobHH Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 I saw it a year ago in Las Vegas. I thought the songs in Mamma Mia there sounded more like the original ABBA versions than the Broadway sound track on CD. Very well done and lots of enthusiasm from the audience.

The CD I purchased at the Toronto performance was the London England sound track. That's where they had the world premiere (first performance of the play). I understand that 3 of the 4 ABBA group members attended the world premiere performance. click .... click .... click .... The sensual sound of stiletto heels on a hard surface.
Heelfan Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 What has this got to do with this Forum's topic - HIGH HEELS? I suggest that this sort of unrelated chat should be strictly kept out, or at best put into the lower-down section "General Non Shoe Fashion Discussion" except that even that section is supposed to be about fashion. Seeing plays or talking about the weather etc. is all very pleasant, but these forums are already getting very cluttered without straying completely off topic. Yours constructively, Heelfan Onwards and upwards!
Bubba136 Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 You have a point, Heelfan. Now if PJ could describe some of the heels he saw at the performance, this would satisfy the requirement to talk about heels. Being mentally comfortable in your own mind is the key to wearing heels in public.
Heelfan Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 Absolutely! Cheerfully Yours, Heelfan Onwards and upwards!

It was Mama Mia, almost a year ago, right? At the Mandalay Bay? Didn't get to see it, but I've always been a closet ABBA fan!
genebujold Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 What has this got to do with this Forum's topic - HIGH HEELS? Yours constructively, Heelfan Well, Heelfan - you know the group themselves were always fairly conservative. Nevertheless, I've a juicy tease for your high-heeled tastes. Rumor has it these are 4" heels, but who would ever verify it?
PJ Posted January 19, 2004 Author Posted January 19, 2004 =============================================== This is the correct version of the previous two "guest" postings of mine: =============================================== What has this got to do with this Forum's topic - HIGH HEELS? Yours constructively, Heelfan Heelfan; I am sorry to learn that this non-highheel thread upsets you. And I welcome your criticism. I started this thread in the "Welcome And How Are You Doing" forum. On the forum index page, it indicates this forum is for "Hellos, goodbyes, and general announcements. Here you can say hello, catch up with people, say if you're going to be away, goodbyes, or any other random thoughts you want. Anything goes in this forum, but try and stay reasonably on topic in the other forums. No spam here please. I think my "Have You Seen Any Plays Lately?" posting qualifies as "any other random thought you want". Although I do enjoy discussing high heels, there are times when even I want to offer a comment or opinion on other subjects. And the HighHeel Meetingplace makes accommodations for such postings. Also I'm not the only one. Even the moderators have posted non-highheel topics. Remember Anita C.'s thread titled "Mugged"? It was not related to high heels. And instead of complaining about being off-topic, you posted a very informative comment. And you did it without mentioning high heels even once. If you can convince the moderators to agree with your idea, then I will stop posting about non-highheel topics. PJ p.s. Anyway, here is a picture of ABBA with HEELS !!! click .... click .... click .... The sensual sound of stiletto heels on a hard surface.
Bubba136 Posted January 19, 2004 Posted January 19, 2004 Is Heelfan a moderator? Being mentally comfortable in your own mind is the key to wearing heels in public.

You haven't a leg to stand on, Heelfan (unless you wish to pull machiavellian communistic moderator power and zap this thread to smithereens...) Your perogative, to be sure! After all, it's your board. But I've sysoped/hosted/moderated boards since 1983, and given my 20 years (?... !) experience in thousands of such conflicts...
