Firefox Posted March 10, 2002 Posted March 10, 2002 Have you ever been in the situation where you are watching a film or television prgramme. It's obvious by the sound and the way she walks that the woman on the screen is wearing a really high pair of heels. However, just as they are going to come into shot, the camera angle changes or it cuts to a close up of her top half or something like that. You never do get to see what style she was wearing..... grrrrr!
Calv Posted March 10, 2002 Posted March 10, 2002 Yes, I've certainly been looking many times to see what somebody is wearing. Most annoying when the shoes or boots are out of camera shot, or you only see a flash of shoe. I've been looking now for many years, right since the 1970's. Do your own thing. Don't be a victim of conformity. Calv
Highluc Posted March 11, 2002 Posted March 11, 2002 I also noted during all the fashion shows on television little attention is paid to the shoes. In my country lots of the movies have subtitles in 2 languages on the lower part of the screen, continuously hiding the heels. Be youself, enjoy any footwear you like and don't care about what others think about it, it's your life, not theirs. Greetings from Laurence
Laurieheels Posted March 11, 2002 Posted March 11, 2002 It can show two things. Either people with a thing for seeing women in heels are a minority, or the movie makers are trying to hide the fact that they are into heels. Marketing, of course, probably says breasts and long hair get men fired up. Yes, American men, drinking beer on a couch, and focused on breasts. Could we have this stereotype killed please? Anyone? Maybe some of us need to become cinematographers? Then these scenes can be shown as they should!
hoverfly Posted March 11, 2002 Posted March 11, 2002 You can thank Hollywood for defining what is hot and what is not. I think a lot of these images are taken to seriously. I would be also be happier that we start seeing straight men wearing some kind of high heel on TV and movies. As for not being able to get a good look at what the actress is wearing for shoes, yeah it's frustrating. Worse yet when there are bare legs showing with those heels you see more time focused on the legs much less on the shoes or in combination of the two. Hello,  my name is Hoverfly. I’m a high heel addict…. Weeeeeeeeeee!  👠1998 to 2022!
Charlie Posted March 11, 2002 Posted March 11, 2002 I thought I was the only one who noticed this. The way they move the camera away just when the shoes are about to appear almost seems like a tease of sorts. The only real good shots of the shoes being worn are news-style interviews on the morning news shows. Many of the women interviewers are into heels. I'm still waiting to see a guy wearing them.................. Charlie Everything I say is a lie!.......I'm lying
Laurieheels Posted March 11, 2002 Posted March 11, 2002 If you need to see heels, you can watch Regis and Kelly, they tend to have good full shots of the stage to show both hosts and their interviewee. The calgary shows are either done behind a desk or without a set at all. And Hollywood must be destroyed, or at least, captures, tortured and reprogrammed. Sex and violence cannot be as much fun as innuendo and class, can it? I say Hollywood takes some of today's fast action and mixes it with the class and suggestiveness of the past. It can be something new and exciting. Yes, we can see sex, big deal. Would it not be better to have some sexual tension, showing the woman dressed nice, with heels and good legs, and the man looking all hot and studly, and then we can have them kiss or build on it at some point towards the end. Why are only four or five movies worthy of an oscar every year? Should not every producer and director try to make a masterpiece? Or do they think we are all that dumb?
IHeels Posted March 11, 2002 Posted March 11, 2002 Hiya Laurie, I totally agree with that one about American men, only thing is it pretty much extends to the 51st state of America - Australia, may'be Canada's the 51st and we're the 52nd. It's just we get all this crappy US Teli too, though we do get some good British stuff. Seems to be this ubiquitious male gaze and its not at the face where it should be (problem), you should see some of the ads on Aust Teli. Yeah, but I don't think an eradication policy will work, may'be counselling? Film making industry, how many seriously good film's are made, not that many, how many Oscars are awarded, too many! Sort like a private club thing. Inga HEELS are POWER the HIGHER the BETTER.
stremph Posted March 11, 2002 Posted March 11, 2002 They always pan down on Jenny Jones to show the shoes of the female guests. However, most of the women on the show are trashy whores wearing trashy whore platform boots and the porn industry-standard patent platform quaterstrap sandals with the plastic plats and heels. It's gotten to the point where "extreme" footwear has gotten boring. Otherwise, I definitely relate to the frustration issue. It is not only on TV, but also in real life, such as when I go into a shop and the woman behind the counter is obviously wearing heels, but I cannot see behind the counter. Grr.
IHeels Posted March 11, 2002 Posted March 11, 2002 I don't think you can work this out all the time, for example in most convenience stores the behind the counter area is raised. Inga HEELS are POWER the HIGHER the BETTER.
brian Posted March 13, 2002 Posted March 13, 2002 Definitely VERY frustrating. Countless magazine photos are like this all the time, too...

Inga, That's funny. Whenever I visit a new convenience store I make sure I catch a glimpse around the back of the counter to see if the floor is elevated or the woman working the counter is actually wearing heels. This can usually be done by peaking down the access isle from the side....... Charlie Everything I say is a lie!.......I'm lying
Geoff (Aus) Posted March 14, 2002 Posted March 14, 2002 Another thing that bugs me! When an actress is wearing a fantastic pair of high shoes and then for a split second when she has an action scene or something other than walking she somehow appears in ugly flat shoes....like they thought we wouldn't notice
Laurieheels Posted March 14, 2002 Posted March 14, 2002 It may not be a choice they make in haste. We have to remember that the female star must RUN in her heels, and if she cannot, then they must give her other shoes for the scene. I think they compromise, hoping that people who like heels will understand. What they need are some custom made courts with athletic shoe material for the soles, and a shock absorber heel. If the female stars can wear heels for the stunts, we will see it. If not, we must find fault with either the actor involved, or the stunt co-ordinator. I am sure many producers and directors wish the movies could be perfect and show the heels all the time, but life isn't like that.
terayon Posted March 15, 2002 Posted March 15, 2002 i know exactly what you mean! this morning i was watching josie and the pussy cats, and there was one part when the really hot blonde chick was getting a makeover, and you could only ever see the tops of her boots, never the heel..i wanted to know if it was stiletto, chunky, wedge or had a platform...= another example was in the scooby doo movie, i was reading a maxim magazine on the plane last night and there was an article on it...you could just barely see sarah michelle gellar in her super hot pink knee high boots....i later went on their website trying to find a picture of just her....they didnt have one, but theres a great big poster which i got that shows her in her fine boots...they say she will auction them off after filming is done...im SO gunna bid on em =)
HeelDog Posted March 15, 2002 Posted March 15, 2002 I am constantly frustrated by being denied the shot of the fabulous footwear. I think it's a conspiracy of the entertainment biz - they know we really want to see it, and you know they're phrase, "Always leave em' wanting more!" I look at them like the wicked witch from the Wizard of Oz, "I'll get you my pretty(s)!" Striving to soar 'higher', HeelDog
Laurieheels Posted March 18, 2002 Posted March 18, 2002 Now, now, Heeldog, such a conspiracy would have to have motivation. We need to prove the motivation before we can declare an official conspiracy. If the movie makers are trying to leave us wanting more of shoes, then where is there attempt to give us more and profit from it? Once we find this, we can smash the conspiracy and free film from hiding so many things. This would make an interesting Independant film. A bunch of men who like seeing high heeled shoes set out to destroy Hollywood because film makers conspire to leave out shots of women's shoe in films, thus unravelling the social fabric for some twisted end. No?
