We both would like to buy a pair of shoes (one for me, one for her), as a "souvenir" form London. Perhaps Camden High Street may be a good option as that covers a wide variety of different styles, from standard high street such as Aldo and Office to the fetish shoes of Pleaser et cetera. Also, being Camden, should there be any confidence issues for you buying high heels, you ought to feel rather comfortable there as I'm sure the shops there should be used to all sorts of weird and wonderful people going in since it's goth/punk/cyber/alternative central. If you after good value for money then New look will be your best bet. There,s 1 in Westfield Shopping centre and Oxford street. There,s also loads of other shoe shops in both these places. If you're walking from Marble Arch to Centrepoint (showing my age....) - there are some good little shops hidden away to the right....at the top of Soho. 5.5heels Posted July 29, 2010 Share Posted July 29, 2010 Size 43 is on the limit of what you'll find generally in Camden - I've been there several times and found nothing at all to fit my size 45 foot - but you might get lucky with a 43. You'll find plenty of interesting cheap shoes for your girlfriend there - assuming she's got feet in a normal girls size range. Soho, although a world renounded fetish / gay / alternative centre, tends to be a bit of a rip off. Lots of cheap stuff sold at top notch prices. Generally small shops so don't have huge stock, so again, size 43 choices will be very limited. Best bet is to visit a back street specialist custom maker such as leatherworks or Costas at Fabulously Fetish (highly recommended). to take your measurements and make a pair for you then send it later. I live in london and have trawled around lots. I hate to be negative but with London shops having huge rents, they tend to sell high turnover items, unless you get way off the beaten track. IThis is my experience - if I'm proved wrong, I'd be delighted as I'd finally find a good walk in shop for me. I'm sure you'll enjoy London, whatever the shopping outcome. Its the only place in central London where I feel uneasy. Last time we were there, we were approached by a guy who asked if we wanted to see Swedish girls. We said no straight away but he kept at us and followed us all the way back to Tottenham Court road tube station and was on his mobile to someone all the time. Soho has always had its' seedier side (it's World famous for it....), however it is also one of the friendliest and most colourful parts of London......at least - it always used to be. I haven't been there for a while. I'm sorry that you had this unsettling experience - I have always felt perfectly safe in London, and Soho.....but then, there always used to be plenty of 'Bobbies on the Beat' on the streets of London too. Strangley enough, I dont remember seeing any police out on the beat that morning. That was the only occassion that I ever visited Soho myself. A few friends were over with me and wanted to see what it was like. We dont really have any equivalent to Soho in Dublin. They had forgotten about the incident in no time and went on to have a brilliant weekend. Just posting it as a point of caution for the original poster.
