Highluc Posted July 16, 2003 Posted July 16, 2003 I'm interested and speak french but am completely lost in Paris. Be youself, enjoy any footwear you like and don't care about what others think about it, it's your life, not theirs. Greetings from Laurence
Firefox Posted July 16, 2003 Posted July 16, 2003 I have been to Paris several times, worn heels there, and speak pigeon french, but I'm afraid I don't know where the shoe shops are. I was doing other things the times before. However, I can show you the "sights" Monmatre, La Defense, Place de Concord, L'Arc, Le Champs and the rest.
jo Posted July 16, 2003 Posted July 16, 2003 Maybe if everyone gets Googleing now, a list of shops and addresses could be compiled.
stilettos Posted July 17, 2003 Posted July 17, 2003 I don't know where the shoe shops are... I might be able to help but it depends what you're looking for. Chatelet has a large Centre Commercial (shopping complex) with a number of shoe shops and the Rue de Rivoli (close by) has a good selection. The area around St Lazarre/Haussmann/Auber is also recommended. Another possibility is the area between St Michel and Montparnasse. These are only the areas I know, there are still parts of Paris I haven't yet discovered
Highluc Posted July 17, 2003 Posted July 17, 2003 Sounds like we found our Paris shoe guide. Merçi cher ami. Be youself, enjoy any footwear you like and don't care about what others think about it, it's your life, not theirs. Greetings from Laurence

Firefox Posted July 17, 2003 Posted July 17, 2003 Previous Euroheel meet was a long weekend affair leaving Friday, back Sunday night.
stilettos Posted July 17, 2003 Posted July 17, 2003 a) whether my above suggestion of February/March 2004 sounds reasonable You may want to consider that the Sales (les Soldes) in France have to take place during two legally defined periods of about 5 weeks duration, one in summer and one in winter. The winter sales period normally runs from about the second week in January until the middle of February. The dates for winter 2004 have not yet been defined.
Heelfan Posted July 17, 2003 Author Posted July 17, 2003 There we are folks! THAT'S what I call the benefit of having an expert guide! 'Stilettos', you're a GENIUS! So, OK, for the Paris Meet dates, why don't we go with the legal sales period, and wait for 'Stilettos' to tell us in due course exactly when it'll be? Also, Firefox has just mentioned that previous Euro-Meets have been a long weekend, arriving there Friday evening and returning Sunday evening. Everyone happy with all of this? Cheerfully yours, Heelsfan. Onwards and upwards!
stilettos Posted July 17, 2003 Posted July 17, 2003 ...why don't we go with the legal sales period, and wait for 'Stilettos' to tell us in due course exactly when it'll be? My general guide for the dates should be enough for you to choose a WE. The precise dates will be published here http://www.minefi.gouv.fr/minefi/sommaire.htm in due course, could be quite some time away. Look to the top left Dates des soldes d'été when the winter dates are known the link should change to Dates des soldes d'hiver and you'll be able to find out when they are

Calv Posted August 12, 2003 Posted August 12, 2003 Hi Heelfan You can count me in for the weekend. I dont need too many excuses to visit Paris I've stopped in Paris before, once in a Campanile hotel in Place d'Italie and also in a Ibis hotel in Place Bastille, both were reasonably priced. Might also be worth checking out mini breaks which include travel and hotels. I wouldn't fancy driving, think I would contract that out to either Eurostar or take a plane. Come on then, who else? Do your own thing. Don't be a victim of conformity. Calv
Heelfan Posted August 18, 2003 Author Posted August 18, 2003 Well, things are shaping-up very nicely! So far (if I've understood your posting correctly), it looks as if we're already expecting: Highluc, Firefox, Calv, Me, Stilettos (our guide) and possibles Jo and Xaphod. That's a potential seven to date, with six months still to take more on board! Come on Guys and Gals, it'll be FANTASTIC fun! ....... any more candidates (France, Germany, Holland, Scandinavia, USA etc etc?)? Cheerfully yours, Heelfan Onwards and upwards!

Firefox Posted December 6, 2003 Posted December 6, 2003 I think Jo has got the right idea with regard to gathering of informtion. If you want to be organised, then get Googling rather than relying on one specific person who may or may not be here. Remember, the worlds biggest library is literally at your fingertips For example I found very quickly: http://www.parisinsiderguides.com/ It's in English, and they state the Paris sales will start in early January and they will announce the dates when they have them. So if you want to fix a date, the end of January will almost certainly be within the four week or so sale period. I also put in Google "soldes Paris hiver 2004" and came up with http://www.federation-habillement.fr/ SOLDES HIVER 2004 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [19/11/2003] Les soldes d'hiver 2004 à PARIS débuterons le mercredi 7 janvier 2004 et finiront le samedi 7 février 2004. Nous vous informons qu'il existe un doute sur le caractère national du 7 janvier, suite à un problème d'information du Ministère du Commerce auprès des départements. Nous vous recommandons de contacter votre préfecture pour toute confirmation de la date des soldes dans votre département.
Dr. Shoe Posted December 6, 2003 Posted December 6, 2003 The only thing that would keep us away would be the cost. Any one got any ideas how a trip to Paris could be done on the cheap? Graduate footwear designer able to advise and assist on modification and shoe making projects.
Firefox Posted December 6, 2003 Posted December 6, 2003 The cheapest way would be to share a car. The best way would be Eurostar (2.5 hours from London). For a midweek break you would be looking at £60-70 return.

For a midweek break you would be looking at £60-70 return. Or how about a vintage bus? Seriously though, I like the idea of a car share etc. Graduate footwear designer able to advise and assist on modification and shoe making projects.
Firefox Posted December 8, 2003 Posted December 8, 2003 I suppose my old diesel might make it down there and back although I don't fancy doing much driving as I'd always be over the limit! If we stayed overnight the cheapest thing might be to get a room between a few or share a couple. As I remember in Paris, you pay for the room and that's it. Mind you, le shuttle is crap, and Eurostar is superb. It's going to take you 6-8 hours each way via car. Whe you consider you're wasting almost two days sitting in a metal box in traffic jams to save £35, the figures for the train start to stack up.
basvoileslover Posted December 9, 2003 Posted December 9, 2003 Hi, I' m a French guy living in Paris and There are two main shops where find real high heels.First is Ernest,in front of the Moulin Rouge, and the other is called Astus and it's located on the Chaussée d'Antin street, near the Trinity church. It would be great to share our passion here, and if you need more info, don't hesitate in mailing me. Excuse my English! Au revoir! During our most enjoyable Meet in Oxford last Saturday, the British group began suggesting that the next Euro-Meet could be in Paris this winter. Their already appears to be interest from Belgium, Holland, USA and Scandinavia, so I hope we can make it a good one. Date-wise, I'm keen to get on with it, but being realistic, as we've already got two UK Meets scheduled for Autumn '03, it might be more successful to think in terms of Spring '94 - maybe February or March before the boots disappear. Any feelings on this all of you? Also, it will help the group if anyone with an intimate knowledge of Parisian heel shops, stockists and the French language can offer to be our GUIDE. I can only think of maybe Hiluc or Pheels (if either is willing and able), but some of you might have additional suggestions. Your comments please? Cheerfully Yours, Heelsfan.
A little research on Google searching using terms from basvoiles recommendations revealed the ones above; the first two are mentioned specifically by basvoiles. This was from a cross dresser type site so I imagine most of those listed would have pumps in large sizes. Quick translations for you Grandes tailles = large sizes pointures jusqu'à 45 = sizes up to 45 bons prix = good price sexy = sexy drag-queens = drag queens I'd like to establish where the more normal shoe type shops are too.
Ionic Posted December 9, 2003 Posted December 9, 2003 I did two nights in Paris with some friends in the first couple of days of January this year. We used a discount package with Eurostar and a basic little hotel in the 9eme arrondisement. I forget all the exact details now, my friends did the hard work since they had to get it right for their young family. The place had rooms with two or three beds, perhaps even fours too so that might be an economical way of doing it. /I /I
Firefox Posted December 9, 2003 Posted December 9, 2003 Yes, I've played bridge there a few times and have often got large type rooms with a friend. You seem to pay for "le chambre" and they didn't seem too paranoid like English places if some extra guests slept on the floor. If I took the car, I might sleep in that. I don't care too much where I sleep.
Heelfan Posted December 10, 2003 Author Posted December 10, 2003 Wow Firefox! Don't you think late January would be a touch chill(!)? Cheerfully yours, Heelfan Onwards and upwards!

Firefox Posted December 12, 2003 Posted December 12, 2003 Do you think it's wise to propose a trip based on the sales, when the trip is on the very last day of the sales? Probably the weekend before would be a better bet, if you don't want to be faced with the possibilty of near empty shelves. I know you might not be free for that, but if it has to be the February weekend I don't think we should get people's hopes up about sales or possible bargains. Just say it is a Paris trip, and leave it at that
Heelfan Posted December 13, 2003 Author Posted December 13, 2003 Firefox and I felt we ought to point out that Saturday 7th February being the last day of the Paris sales, the selection of shoe bargains might not be TOO brilliant. But still, were hoping that most of you will want to come anyway, for Paris, for the break, for the chance to meet a few internation Forum members, and for a generally great time, even if you don't buy anything! But we do need names of those interested. Please post below if you are keen to join us! Cheerfully yours, Heelfan Onwards and upwards!
Dr. Shoe Posted December 14, 2003 Posted December 14, 2003 I am keen to but I will have to look at the financial implications. Graduate footwear designer able to advise and assist on modification and shoe making projects.
