  1. There aren't any set rules pertaining to heel height where I work. One young lady came in once a year ago in towering black open-toed stilettos and hasn't worn them since. I suspect her manager may have said something to her. Another lady in a different department wears heels very often. In fact, I've seen her in black stilettos that were at least 4.5". She looks great in them and wears short skirts all the time - which is also great, but she's not exactly slim. She always takes short steps and her heels are loose enough so that there is noticeable heelpop.

  2. I wore heels for the first time at age 13. They were my mother's chunky 2-inch pumps that just happened to fit. It was mostly to satisfy my curiosity, and after a few times I stopped. It wasn't until five years ago that I started wearing them in ernest, starting with 4-inch stilettos and quickly working my way up to 5.5" pumps. I've settled on 5-inchers as a standard and frankly they don't feel that high. Maybe it's because I've gotten used to them. Now if I slip into 4-inchers, they feel like sneakers. So far I've only worn heels around the house and while sleeping. I always have them on while shaving and slip out of them before jumping in the shower. On weekends, I'll keep them on while glossing over the computer in the morning before breakfast.

  3. 1988 Jeep Cherokee which I bought brand new. 650,000 miles (yes miles, not kilometers); 599,000 on the original engine (it still ran but was leaking oil out of the rear seal as fast as I could put it in). Third clutch, third set of brakes, sixth windshield thanks to all the gravel that gets dumped during the winter. And it still has its original muffler.

  4. One trigger was seeing my teachers in heels every day. Low heels, not stilettos. The clincher came when I was 13. We visited my grandmother and aunt in Chicago and my aunt wore heels whenever she left her apartment. Her heels were just loose enough so that her feet would slip just enough to see her high arches wink with each step. She wasn't much of a dipper, but when she did slip her foot out, it got my attention immediately. I've been a heels lover ever since, and when I finally took the plunge and started wearing them myself, I took to 5-inch stilettos the way a duck takes to water.

  5. My system consists of a 1990 Onkyo TX-890 receiver, Dual turntable, Polk Audio RTA-15 tower speakers and a MacIntosh MC-2500 power amp (bought used in 1993). Not to mention several cassette decks and CD player as well as a Sony DVD recorder. That Mac is a workhorse amp - weighs 129 pounds and adds beef to the sound. All I need now is a subwoofer for my NYC subway recordings.

  6. I often see ladies wearing very nice heels in church. There was one in particuler a number of years ago that engaged in nonstop dipping whenever the congregation stood. Now THAT was a distraction, to say the least!

  7. As a kid, I took piano lessons from my grandmother, who was a pianist. Started taking drum lessons in sixth grade. When I entered high school, my band director, who was a percussionist himself and had gone to Juilliard, suggested I play timpani when he found out I had absolute pitch. I went on to major in music in college and while I left the education field 20 years ago, I never put the timpani mallets away and am still timpanist of one of metro Denver's better orchestras. I also took up accordion in 1981 and accompany our folk dance group when we practice. Trust me - I'm a much better timpanist than accordionist. I own a pair of Slingerland timpani, Kent drum set that has been in the garage for eons and two accordions: a three-reed Bonvicini and a four-reed keyboard/five-reed bass Philharmonic. My first love is classical, which is what I play nowadays. Once a year, I play snare drum when I go back to either Homecoming or Alumni Band Day at my alma mater. Before I took up drums, I wanted to take oboe lessons because I've always loved the way that instrument sounds. My niece is currently taking oboe lessons.

  8. While I've been wearing heels for just the past four years, my fascination with them started long, long before that. It became a fetish when at age 13, I observed my aunt walking in pumps. She has high-arched feet and her arches winked with every step she took. The following Easter, she wore black pumps with at least a 3" heel, and once again her arches winked with every step. Looking back, her shoes must have been just loose enough so that her heel would slip out slightly with each step. One day I challenged myself: if you like heels so much, why don'y YOU wear them? And so I did. I started with 4" pumps and took to them the way a duck takes to water. I now wear 5-inchers regularly.
