  1. It just seems to me that a woman in leather is regarded with some suspicion and might even be the subject of suggestive comments, but I suspect the same doesn't apply to men. It's true though that not many men would wear a complete leather outfit, whereas leather suits for women are less uncommon.

  2. I'm with Laurie on this. It is a beautiful picture of a beautiful girl. It has decidedly erotic overtones but definitely not pornographic. I had no idea that there could be any objection to such things in the U.S. It's certainly not offensive to my kind of Christianity, and anyone who thinks it is probably has deep-seated psychosexual problems which have nothing directly to do with religion.

  3. Funnily enough I was recently sent some photos which were taken of a group of people I was addressing – with, of course, a back view of me in some of them. I’m just everso prim and proper – long summer skirt, nothing at all glamorous, but I was wearing some 51/2” beige ankle-straps, so I might decide to post one if I can make sure other people are eliminated from the picture. I have some sort of editor on the computer, so I shall have to play about with it and see what I can do.

  4. Some of you, I suspect, will be pleased to know that there is another potential 'seven-incher' here. Whenever I see someone like Laurie wearing them with such ease and poise I have to confess to being envious. I have to be sure that I shall be able to wear them at least once or twice a week, as I can't afford to buy shoes that are going to stay in a cupboard for most of the time, but as I become more comfortable in 61/2" I shall look towards going higher. I just wish that they were available when I was twenty years younger!

  5. It’s a slight exaggeration, sorry Jeff, to say that I wear 6” or 61/2” regularly. My few pairs of 6” are closed courts so only get an airing in cooler or wet weather. They’re not difficult to walk in but I don’t like the look of them as much as my 51/2”. The heels are a little thicker than I like and the shoes themselves are rather ‘heavy’ and clumsy looking compared to my preferred styles. It’s true that if I could find some full 6” heels in a more aesthetically pleasing design I should wear them much more often. My only (so far) 61/2” are a different matter, they have a lovely shape and fit well. I bought them last spring so didn’t wear them much before the warmer weather came, but I wore them often enough to manage without being unduly conscious of the extra height. In fact I posted somewhere, I forget where, how I wore them one working day and had walked to the car before I remembered which shoes I was wearing. Broadly I agree with Laurie, though my ‘low’ shoes tend to be around 41/2”. I have just two or three pairs of heels around 3” but only to throw on if I have just got in and need to give the dogs a quick walk ‘around the block’. I don’t possess any flat shoes – even my hiking boots and shoes have some heel which is necessary for comfort and support. My 41/2” and 43/4” are dwindling in number as they wear out – most of them are very old now as I haven’t bought any that height since I discovered 51/2”, and that must be eleven or twelve years ago. I wore some 41/2” at the weekend for an event that I was taking part in, simply because they suited my outfit and they are quite ‘eveningy’ and glamorous. Much as I like them, they have a lovely traditional stiletto and elegant pointed toes, I still don’t feel right in them for such an occasion, and if I could find something similar with a higher heel I would definitely get them. So for everyday it’s always 51/2”, which I can manage with no trouble at all, all day if need be. Some time ago some of us were discussing shoes, and one person said to me, ‘You look comfortable in your shoes.’ That’s the whole point, as expressed at the beginning of this thread, if the wearer looks ungainly or self-conscious then she should go lower, or have more practice if she really wants to wear that height. As for the 61/2” heels, Jeff you will be pleased to know that with the autumn underway I have now started wearing them again, and shall do more and more as I become used to them. Once they become easy for me I shall try some 7” – after all, Laurie has proved it possible, and I’m not one to be outdone! Laurie, you had better find some 71/2” to keep ahead of me!! The reasons for wearing such ridiculous shoes have been explored in other threads so I won’t go over old ground here. This message is already far too long, but I’ve not posted much for a while so I hope I’m forgiven. Anne Louise

  6. Just a thought for all you men in the U.K. who would like to go out in your heels but don't have the courage. There is a 'Wacky Walk' day tomorrow for Children in Need and you can find out where the nearest one is to you. I don't know the number but the B.B.C. Helpline should provide it. I gather you just have to turn up and do the walk, presumably collecting on the way. You could wear your heels quite openly then! I just thought it might help some of you if you hadn't already heard about it. A.L.

  7. I think those red ones look lovely from the rear but quite distorted from the side - I don't think I should like to wear them unless her feet are a lot smaller than mine in which case they might look less distorted on me. I never thought I would ever say a pair of shoes is too high! The red/black 7" (?) ones are absolutely lovely, a beautifully curved heel and very elegant shoe. I think they will be my next shoes, once I feel comfortable in 61/2". Whenever I see a picture like that I want to get straight to the phone and order some, but I have to be practical and patient. And I should never, no not ever, never wear spoil them with a platform!
