It sure is. :) I have some heels on display in my livingroom, no need to hide those anymore when I get visitors. One of the gest new options.

It's wonderful to have this new freedom. No more secrets. The truth is out and the real you can be proud of it!

    Thanks for sharing your success.

I'm still trying to get my head around how I was able to fit these booties!!! They are Nine West ankle boots and I know that this brand is very generous when it comes to sizing! This particular pair is a size 8 and usually anything no matter what brand in a size 8, I don't even look at it twice because that's ridiculous to try and even imagine fitting a size 8 shoe on a size 10 foot.  Still I was able to fit them on.  Much to say they fit pretty well,  still snug because the last person who wore them didn't break in them. I'm speechless.  I did try on a different pair of Nine West shoes in a size 8 and my foot couldn't even get in halfway.

Interesting to hear you say that. My experience has been just the opposite. I have found Nine West to be uncomfortably small on me. I have tried several styles of their heeled loafers in US women's size 12, which is normally quite ample in other brands, and have found Nine West short and unwearable.

Perhaps they've changed their sizing a bit in the last couple of years and it's now more generous. I will have to consider giving them another try.

  3. Congrats, Spareheels, on breaking the ice. Don't go too fast. Watch her body language. Back off if she gets uncomfortable. Your job is to take baby steps and push the envelope very slowly while you monitor her comfort level and keep her in her comfort zone. Only you can judge that. Don't worry about going public. If it happens, fine. The main thing is getting her used to seeing you in heels but not feeling like you want to become female.

    Good luck!

  4. I agree with most of what's been posted here. I'm not addicted, but I AM passionate about heels. I prefer to buy what I feel comfortable wearing in public, and that is not stilettos. I prefer more substantial heels in the 3-4" range (single sole up to 3/4 inch platform). I stay away from pumps, as I have trouble keeping them on my feet. And I stay away from oxfords and tie shoes because (1) I had to wear tie shoes as a kid and hated them and (2) I'm too lazy to tie them. I have a few pair of boots, but mostly I like wearing sandals and clogs/mules. I never buy shoes because I need them! LOL

I am fairly new to this site, but I have to ask is it wrong for me to want to wear pumps with 5 to 6 inch heel? I ask this cause of this post and the fact that it seems to me most on here are all about boots. I must be honest in my opinion a boot with a block heel is just a boot. A high heel to me is any shoe with a needle like heel. I may not look so good in them, but I love how they feel and make me feel. Just something that was on my mind. Happy Heeling.

It is not wrong to want to wear pumps with 5 to 6 inch heels. It's not wrong to wear any heeled shoe or boot. Everyone is different and there is no right or wrong. Many have even commented on non-heeled shoes (flats, loafers) on this forum. The only thing you need is tolerance. If you don't like somebody else's choice, don't be critical. I've been guilty of this myself, and it's sometimes difficult to remember that ugly is in the eye of the beholder. So go for whatever shoes you want and enjoy the freedom of wearing what you want.

  7. You handled that reaction very well by not saying anything. Don't let it bug you. The pioneers are the ones with arrows in their backs.

Just go out and have fun, like you did! Life is too short to worry about guys who are like that.

  8. I once was asked why I color my fingernails. "To match my toes!" I answered. That got a laugh, too. I never did really answer the question, but that was satisfactory! The real answer would be just a boring, "Cuz I like it. It's my body art. I don't do tattoos, which are permanent. Nail polish is temporary. I can change it or go colorless. I can have fun with it, with bright colors or metallic or glitter or nail art. Or I can keep it subdued. I actually ran short of time the other day and wore my nails "bare!" (They looked awful! LOL)

  9. Whether we agree with the rule about men not posting in the girls only section or not, this is Tech's forum. He's the owner and makes the rules. We're all his guests here and we need to respect that. If you don't like it, you are free to create a competitive forum elsewhere if you think you can do it better. I'll warn you that it's a lot of work that goes underappreciated. The rule being debated here was not instituted based on fairness or gender equality; it was because men were running rampant in the women's section and chased the women away. Tech wanted to create a safe haven for them because some guys just couldn't play nicely in the sandbox.

  10. No real brand preferences. They're all good or they wouldn't stay in business. I've had good success with Sally Hansen, Revlon, OPI, Jessica, and others. The key is good surface preparation with no oil or water left on it, a good clear base coat, and a good clear top coat. With non-gel nail polish I usually get 5-7 days on my fingernails before it starts chipping and looking too ratty to wear. YMMV depending on what you do with your hands. On toenails, I usually get a month.

  11. I think your sampling was inadequate. Go to Nordstrom.com and search for Jimmy Choo. Many of the styles come in sizes up to US women's 12, and most are in the $500-700 range, which is many times my budget, but less than $2500. Stop in at Nordstrom's and try them on to see for yourself if they're special or not, and whether they're worth the premium. My guess is that "expensive is in the eye of the beholder." I don't own any myself, and probably never will.

  12. I don't have a preference. Some of my heels are platforms and others are not. To me it's the total look. When I do go for a platform, it's not high - 1 inch max. And heels for me are never stiletto. I'm too unstable in them. I prefer heels that are at least 3/4 of an inch square at the bottom for stability when standing. Attached are two examples. The black Aerosoles "Major Role" pump is single sole and the brown pair of White Mountain "Siesta" sandals has almost a 1 inch platform.

  13. You should only care about the impression you make on people regarding the front of your shoes, when you meet them. When you walk away from them, the appearance of the back of your shoes no longer matters! LOL

  15. I got these Aerosoles "Major Role" black pumps from Shoebuy.com about 3 weeks ago and have worn them a lot indoors to break them in. I'm still not totally there, but I noticed that as the toe box has stretched a little to accommodate my feet, the back of the shoe now slides off my heel when I walk in them. I need to try those adhesive heel pads that are intended to help keep shoes from slipping off.

I still think they're cute, fun, and I love the feel of the cushioned foot bed. It's a pleasure to slide my feet into them, both with nylons and bare.

Yesterday I went over to see my gal pals in the marketing department of our retirement community. They both LOVED this style and thought it looked great on me. The heel is about 3 1/2" high and 1" thick and very sturdy. I like the rounded toe. Aerosoles promotes their "Heel Rest Technology" where the angle of the back of the footbed becomes less steep to take the weight off the balls of your feet. I have to agree that it feels pretty good to me. The arch is in the right place, too. Sorry about the cluttered background in the photo of my feet.

I've got to blame Bluejay for these. He inspired me to get them!

  16. I'm with you, Jeff, but later 60s here. I wear heels everyday out in public, but never stilettos; always thicker and more stable heels. My preferred height is 3 to 3.5 inches, and 4 is really pushing it for me. My ankles and feet aren't as flexible as when I was younger.

I went to a community jam session last night wearing a turtleneck, jeans and black OTK boots with 4" block heels.

    GEDC1351.jpg.22004b38811babc03885a3f537dda5a1.jpg These boots in black.

These folks see me in boots every month so no one even seemed to notice.  I did a sole open mike, standing in front of the group, and performed a set with several friends.  I had folks tell me they liked my music form the open mike, and they liked my cello (which wasn't that good but it was different).  Folks commented that they liked my guitar and at the end of the evening three fiddle players gathered around and I played cello (bluegrass gospel string quartet :penitent:), but no one said a word about my boots. Although it's nice to get a "nice boots" complement, it's also nice to go out and have the world (small world) accept you.

    I had a great time.

    :wavey:

A "sole" open mike? And you didn't play "soul" music? A lost opportunity! Tsk, tsk! :giggle:
