I am hoping I'll find a man who likes a woman in heels, but I am not hearing the pick up lines these days. No interest at all. What freakish city am I living in?

Laurie, I think you should emigrate to Holland.. Somewhere around Weert I would say..

But in the US we would have called the event a bus show in all likelihood, although I'm not certain the hobby of restoring busses exists in the states..

It probably does.. There are so much things one isn't aware of. I didn't know there where people who found joy in restoring busses either, untill I met Calv that is..

Does this bother anybody else? I know the thought is always in my mind. Are we scared of somebody we know making a comment?

Actualy, I'm bothered more if people I know that see me in heels for the first time don't make a comment about it. Cause it's almost for sure that it's going to be subject of conversation as soon as you turn your back. (Not that it won't happen if they do comment on it first, though..)

I like it best when they ask me something about it so I get a chance to tell that there's really nothing about it and I'm still the same me. That way I can stop thinking about what they might think and they can stop wondering whether I'm gay or tv or something.

  4. Actualy, I don't wear flared leg pants. Most of my jeans are the straight model. I mostly wear a longer pair (36" length) with my heels, but sometimes also 34". Basically because I like the look of it (36" leaves about 1,5-2" of the heel visible). Hiding really doesn't work this way, since while walking the entire heel shows.

Well, in 3.5" (real lift) heels I feel fully comfortable and can wear all day with no problems. With 4" is the heel hight no problem, but after a while my ball of the foot tends to get some feelings, I should say, I think it all depends of what kind of material and construction of the shoe or boot.

It makes also a big difference what your day looks like. If your going to do a lot of walking - like a couple of ours shopping - 5" stiletto's (or even blocks for that matter) will be exhausting. 5" all day long at home will be no problem. (Speaking for myself here.)

  6. Well put Beeblebrox, I know exactly what you mean. For me it's also a slow process. (I'm the kind of guy who doesn't like to be the center of attention and wearing heels doesn't help that at all..) There are still situations where I feel less comfortable in heels, but slowly this get's better. As for work, still only 2" masculine looking shoes till now..

  7. Beeblebrox: I'd go with Redhat (currently 7.2) or Suse (currently 8.0). The latter one has the newest version of KDE (3.0). KDE is the desktop environment I prefer. 3.0 will probably also be in Redhat 7.3 when it comes out. I personally use Redhat and haven't used Suse since their 6.3 release so can't comment on that, but it is known to be one of the most userfriendly distributions. Terayon: Why would you want to use mIrc under Linux? Their are loads of Linux IRC clients. People, don't think of linux as a 'better' way to run your windows-apps. Windows does a better job at that, period. On Linux you should run Linux apps. All I'm saying is that for the odd app you can't find a Linux equivalent for, their are several ways to run it anyway without having to reboot-boot to windows. _________________ Greetz, Jeff --- "She's going shopping, shopping for shoe-oe-oe-oes She wants them in magenta and Caribbean blue-ue-ue-ue" - Imelda, Mark Knopfler [ This Message was edited by: Jeff on 2002-04-11 22:29 ]

Linux might be an option, but how can I make my USB burner to work with this system?

The burner is an HP 8200e.

    Is USB at all supported?

A quick search on groups.google.com for "linux HP 8200e usb" shows that this burner should work.

Actualy, usb is quite well supported since kernel 2.4. I use a usb-mouse and my Fuji finepix digital camera under linux on my notebook.

Two things, One will it run Window programs or do I have to buy new software, like Work Perfect? Second how is it compared for ease of use to Windows?

There are a couple of tools that offer Windows support one way or the other. I personally use VMWare for the odd windows-application I need. VMWare creates a complete virtual PC under linux in which you can install Windows (or any other OS for that matter).

There's loads of software for linux out there. Most popular packages also have a llinux variant (not nescesarely from the same vendor). Often these programs are open source, which basically means you can use them for free.

As for easy of use, I think Linux with KDE as a desktop environment is as userfriendly as Windows. The added value is that Linux still has the good old commandline for those guru's (like me ) that enables you to do lowlevel stuff and be able to fix things without reinstalling the OS, which I can't say for windowz.

Hey Jeff, what kind of heels did you wear with your mum, did she comment or is she not interested in what you wear anymore?

I wore my 3,5" block ankle boots. I already asked her a couple of months ago if she'd still walk next to me in public. She has no problems at all with the heels. Her motto is you should to do what you want to do, you live your life to please yourself in the first place and not everybody else.

Her only comment yesterday was that I'm now even taller than I normaly am compared to her. I really look down on her now.

From the sounds of it some people have a lot of problems with Microsoft Windows. I have Windows ME and when I first got it is was all ways crashing. I did three things to get mine to behave better. This of course is for versions before Windows XP. One shut down as many programs as possible that run on start up. Determine the most important ones that need to be running on start up. Just make sure that you don?t shut down the actual operating system. I use msconfig.exe. Two, buy a RAM manager program, mine only cost me $20. It seems Microsoft did not fix the problem with the Windows RAM manger until XP came along. Three, I have Norton's System Works Pro 2001. I use it when my computer starts to slow down or screw up. Since then I have been having blue screens far and few between.

I am always looking for suggestions for improvements, so lets hear them.

Download a Linux distribution and burn it on cd's. Then, format you HD and boot from the first Linux-cd. It's all up-hill from there... Less (no) crashes for less (no) money, and no extra tools you need to buy to keep your system up and running. It just does this out of the box, as every operation system should do.

  12. Went to the what's called 'spring-fair' here in Maastricht with my mum tonight. Ofcourse in heels (me that is, not my mum.. ). Lot's of highheeled women there. Most of course boots with about 3" (thin) blade heels and platforms for the younger gals. Also a lot of the new pointy toe style (pumps as well as boots) which look pretty nice if the heel is in proportion (= high enough). There was also a fashionshow with some nice heels and (leather) clothes. Although the fair itself was a bit disappointing, I certainly got my money's worth..

  13. I'd say for long walks (like shopping trips e.g.) 3,5-4" would be the ideal hight for me. I think I can easily move without affecting my way of walking (except for the steps getting smaller) up to 5,5" and 6" if they are stilettos. (For >= 5" heels I find stilettos easier to walk in the than block/blade heels.)

  14. Two systems: One is a good old AMD K6-2 300MHz serving as a server and internet gateway. It runs at the moment Redhat linux 7.2, but has still partions on it containing Suse 6.3, OS/2 Warp4 and Win98 (yuck..). Memory is 128M 3HD's (2 IDE, 1 SCSI) make up a total of I think about 16G. This thing also has a 4-2-2 CDRW and a SB AWE 64 Gold. Second one is the thing I do all my work on. A dell Inspiron 3800 notebook. CPU is Pentium III 600MHz Memory is 256M HD is 20G Screen is 14" TFT, but at home it is connected to a 17" Iiyama CRT-box. Also runnning Redhat linux here and sometimes Win98 in a VMWare session under linux. _________________ Greetz, Jeff --- "She's going shopping, shopping for shoe-oe-oe-oes She wants them in magenta and Caribbean blue-ue-ue-ue" - Imelda, Mark Knopfler [ This Message was edited by: Jeff on 2002-04-08 20:08 ]

  15. I don't think there has ever been any hostility towards women from men on this board and if it's up to me (and it is..) this will never happen. This is the same for the other way around btw. Over 6300 posts in less than four months without a single conflict. This is how it is and how it should be. We are all friends here and I hope we can be for a long time. _________________ Greetz, Jeff --- "She's going shopping, shopping for shoe-oe-oe-oes She wants them in magenta and Caribbean blue-ue-ue-ue" - Imelda, Mark Knopfler [ This Message was edited by: Jeff on 2002-04-06 20:43 ]

  16. I have no problem whatsoever driving in heels. So far I tried up to 5,5". I read in a engineering magazine this week that someone invented a combined gas/brake pedal. This thing makes the time-to-brake shorter than with the conventional two separate pedals. I saw a pic of it, we heelers definitely don't want this.. It makes it impossible to drive with heels on.

  17. It's simply the way economy works.. For a company's right of existance, it must make profit. That profit must come from somewhere, if not from the advertisers or other companies, it must come from the users. This has been happening for a lot of free services on the net for the past year or two. I'm already thinking what our fee is gone be in the future.. Hmmmm, maybe a pair of nice stilettos for a one year subscribtion.
