  1. We could always do what England did......ship them off to an island.....just kidding. What about an eye for an eye, etc. You know what you are getting yourself into when you commit the crime. This would act as deterrents to people because other people would know that you had committed a crime......You know the Scarlet Letter. Where I work we have a guy working security that is also a prison guard at the county correctional facility. They have a great program there that he was telling me about called The Scared Straight Program. It is a half-day program. They bring in kids, you know the ones, the ones that are getting into trouble but have not yet had to go to a lock down facility. They have some of the prisoners talk to them about why they are there, why they should straighten out, then they have the big scary Bubba type prisoner (you know the typical prisoner movie type one I am talking about because there is one that LOOKS the part in every prison, but may or may not act the part) come in and talk to them. Then they give them a tour of the prison. They give them a tour of some empty cells, they tell them to go in and take a look, and they call lock down on the cellblock and the kids are locked in the cells. They are only in there for 10 minutes. From what he told me, most of the kids are scared to death when they hear the cell door lock. They start to cry and ask for mom, etc. Now mind you, the parents are not with the kids when this happens, but they are made aware of the ENTIRE program when they come in, INCLUDING the lockdown. They are told that you will be in there for 10 minutes. In all of the cells there is a toilet, a sink and a cot so they can do all the necessities of life. They can not stand it for 10 minutes; it gives them an idea of what it would be like in there for 10 months.

  2. I still don't understand  If somebody is locked up for life they will be just as likely to appeal if they feel the evidence was lacking and/or they are not guilty.

With the people on death row there are the appeals that are expidited, the appeals for the stay of execution, and all of this. The people that get life in prison are less likely to push for all the appeals that a person on death row has to get a stay of execution. That is where all the money comes in to play.

  3. The problem as I see it is that there is at least as much resistance in distaff circles to a guy knowing about high heels, or what the best nail polish or makeup to wear, or how best to make a soufle, or what the proper tension to use when sewing satin..... as there is in "manly" circles to a woman who knows how a car is supposed to be fixed (see for example the movie My Cousin Vinny). So I don't think it is all that far off topic.

    Thank you Azraelle. I agree.

  4. Well there you are then. To be honest, the most conspicuous bit is actually changing, as no-one normally does that in public. After that, you're sorted! Best of luck!

I have the solution to the changing thing. The men's rooms have stalls right??? Just go into one of the stalls, and change your shoes.

  5. If you want to talk about the car thing and sales/repair people not taking women seriously I have one for you. I had to have the drive axle flanges on my front axle replaced. I had them replaced in Dec, because someone who shall not be named drove over a median on the way to Quebec, Canada. (It was not Lori.) But anyways, after only 6000 miles they failed and I had been leaking transmission fluid. I took it to the dealership where I am living now, and told them what was going. I told them that it had been looked at by the dealership in Maine that had originally done the work and that I was only up in Maine for the day so that is why they did not do the work. The service manager from the dealership in Maine told me "If they have any questions to have them give me a call." And that message was passed along. So I get this call at 330 in that afternoon, after my car had been dropped off at 9am that my drive axle flanges were leaking, and that they were not going to be able to fix them that day. :argue: Needless to say, HELLO!!!!! did I not already tell you that that was the problem!!!!!! So went into the dealership, politely tore them a new one, then proceeded up the food chain to the manager on duty at the dealership and then the service manager. When I got on the phone with the service manager he asked me what kind of car that I drive. I say " A 1997 2.0L 4 cyl standard Jetta". He was a little taken aback. What is this? A female that knows about her car? I then proceeded on to tell him about all the problems I have had with the car: brake calipers, H-block to the A/C was cracked, 2 distributor caps, a power coil, oxygen sensors...etc. I think that they learned a leason when I came in with my car. There are some women out there that know about their cars. And you are going to regret taking advantage of those women because it will come back to bite you where it counts, your wallet.

  6. You would not believe what I saw when I was up on Mt. Washington a month ago. At the summit, there was a man that had what looked like a pair of 4" heels on. When I say at the summit, I mean at the summit. Not at the visitors center where the Cog Railway stops. I mean up at the top where you have to hoof if over the rocks and stuff. Well it really is not that far. But is really really windy. I mean windy. I mean gusts in the 50-70 mph range. So you can see what I am talking about. Mt. Washington is here in NH. It is in the White Mountains and is where most of the radio stations broadcast from, TV stations, blah blah blah.
