  1. .... my other sweaters do not feel as "tight" as this one when wearing them, so I might just not be used to it being a bit more narrow.

Womenswear tends to "hug" a bit more, but it's a nice sensation. I always feel really sloppy when I revert to menswear, which tends to be very loose and shapeless and boring.

  2. I don't think it looks noticeably small at all, it doesn't look tight around the shoulders/chest and the length of the sleeves looks fine - assuming it wouldn't shrink in the wash. I also just think "it's a person wearing a sweater", guy or girl is irrelevant... but in general it's quite androgynous and not overtly feminine, and I can't imagine anyone making a big deal of it at all.

Personally I think it looks better with the jeans. It's a nice skirt but the zip kind of clashes with the distinctive diagonal lines in the sweater's pattern making the whole look a bit too busy. A plain skirt might be better, but I still think jeans are the best.

As for the price it's way outside my universe, but just the thought of how many heels I could have in my wardrobe for $900, the sweater doesn't stand a chance.

  3. I think sometimes the initial signs of wear from brand new are really noticeable, but after that they settle down and the wear is not as bad as you first think. I did find that in my early days of heeling my enthusiasm for walking everywhere in heels made me wear them down quite quickly, but now I'll always wear flats for walking long distances and change into heels nearer to my destination, which helps to reduce wear on the shoes and on my feet! I'd say don't worry about the noise, it's a huge part of the fun, just enjoy your heels as much as you like and get them re-heeled whenever you need to.

  4. I can't really believe that your world is brightened by the Lone Ranger suffering from depression

Maybe they're tears of joy (the Lone Ranger just found HHPlace!) ;)

Just to get back on topic, my undisputedly most despised track ever is Gary Glitter's "Leader of the Gang", I can't even bring myself to post a link (but it was worth tracking down a vomiting smiley icon) post-12051-0-04432100-1421370476.jpg

  5. Oh, I've just thought that "#One o'clock, two o'clock, three o'clock, rock" counts forwards.

Well done, Sleekheels, but not really traditional songs, even Bill Bailley.

I was led astray by the fact that every time that song's played at a wedding I suddenly feel like I'm on the film set of "Cocoon".

By the way, £15 is known as a Commodore. £5 is known as 'a lady'.  From  'fiver', which rhymes with 'Lady Godiva'.  https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=lady+godiva&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&gws_rd=cr&ei=eI60VJK8KcruUNz6gsAG  Anyway, £15 is a commodore because it's 'three times a lady.'

Some Londoner I am, I could only remember "pony" (£25) and "monkey" (£500). I couldn't resist a search

  6. Go to youtube, click on the address at the top.  When it goes blue, right click and choose copy.  Now, back to hhp, in 'Reply to this topic', up at the top, on the line that begins with B, just after 123 with three lines there's a lone ranger mask weeping. Click on that and everything goes grey. Right click in the white box and choose paste, then click on OK.  Hey presto

"A lone ranger mask weeping" - that really made me smile :)

  7. OH! OH! OH! You are so evil.

I had in fact ordered the exact same pair in my size along with a few others, but have not received them yet and am starting to think something is wrong with the delivery

New Look are always busy at the start of January with the sales. I've never ordered from overseas but locally here in the UK they have been very reliable with all my orders.Their website says 7-9 working days for Africa, so if the order status on the website says they've been dispatched it could still take a couple of weeks in transit. Hope you get them soon.

  8. Welcome MrPump.

It would be very unusual for a guy not to feel apprehensive about wearing heels outside for the first time. It's only after you do it that you realise it's not like what you fear it would be. But as Shafted said, you can help yourself by making good decisions of what to wear and where to go to feel comfortable and have a positive experience to build your confidence.

My first time in any public place was trying on the boots in my avatar picture in the shop where I bought them. I wore an outfit that would look good with those boots (bootcut jeans, brown jacket). My first time properly walking around in public I wore brown wedge boots under bootcut jeans, it was late-afternoon/early-evening in central London on a working day (so it was busy with lots of people around) and I don't remember anyone even noticing what I was wearing. This is much safer and more rewarding than making your debut in stilettos and a mini-skirt on a dark street at 3am.

Do take the time to read the "first time" posts in the forums, there are years of valuable experience and insights (and they really inspired me). Also don't feel that you have to copy what someone else did, just pick and choose an approach that you feel might work best for you in your surroundings.

  9. # On the thirteenth day of Christmas

    # My true love sent to me

    The credit card bill.

That would provide a resolution to the debate.

Most counting songs count backwards.  Can anyone think of one that counts forwards?

I couldn't think of one, but a quick search found this one (among others) which counts monkeys from one to ten:

    http://www.songsforteaching.com/math/additionsubtraction/10sillymonkeys.htm

Oh, I've just thought that "#One o'clock, two o'clock, three o'clock, rock" counts forwards.

Ah, and "#Once, twice, three times a lady"... (what a romantic I am to consider that a counting song!).

  10. I bought these at the weekend, from New Look for £29.50, they have a 4½" heel and 1" platform. My size UK7 is a slight squeeze with thick socks but a nice fit with thin socks or opaque tights, the shaft is about as tall as it could be without being over-the-knee, and the fit at the top of the shaft is not too tight, I can fit my thumb into the gap even wearing skinny jeans.

Sizes UK4 through to UK9 are still showing in stock on the website.

I'm really looking forward to wearing them during the rest of the winter.

  11. As for interpretation, Shyheels and Dr Shoe, I beg your very pardon!  I direct you to verse two, lines one and two:  On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me/ Two turtle doves and (my italics) a partridge in a pear tree.  I believe that, linguistically, 'and' marks accumulation.  Undoubtedly twelve partridges are given, unless the whole thing is a tissue of lies.

That would be most logical Captain.... assuming of course that it's one person singing the whole song. If each "true love" was in fact the recipient from the previous line, passing on all their unwanted gifts with something extra, that sounds like a much more realistic portrayal of events - a chain of broken hearts and a pile of unwanted gifts. Surely that's why they're always playing "Last Christmas I gave you my heart, but the very next day you gave it away" in all the shops. Now there's "bah humbug" for you!

Happy New Year to all too :)

  12. On the whole I tend to prefer skirt and top combinations because I wear tops one size bigger than my skirt size so it's easier to get a good fit. With dresses I usually have to buy according to my top size so I sometimes end up with the bottom half of the dress being a bit too big or loose. That's not too much of a problem with more floaty styles, and even with bodycon dresses the stretch of the fabric sometimes compensates quite well and fits easier than some more structured tailored styles might.

The first couple of dresses I bought looked nice on the shop mannequin but not on me, but these days I always try them on in store and only buy the ones that feel like a good fit and look flattering (in my own mind's eye at least). Dresses have to accommodate all sorts of sizes and shapes of customer, so it's just a case of trying lots to find the few that work well. Women have just as much difficulty finding the right dress, so guys shouldn't expect it to be any easier.

I own around ten dresses. In terms of length they vary from mini to midi, mostly bodycon but a couple of the longer ones are a bit more floaty. I almost always wear some kind of top with the dress, either a smart blazer, a more casual jacket (leather or denim), or a smart cardigan, and that opens up more possibilities for wearing sleeveless strappy styles (which makes fit on the shoulders and arms far less of an issue). About half of my dresses are day dresses, either plain or some kind of floral or geometric pattern, while the other half are more party-style dresses that I'd only dream of wearing on a special occasion (but have occasionally combined with a casual jacket for a slighly more everyday smart look).

Finally, I do feel equally comfortable wearing a dress, skirt or trousers (all with heels of course) but I do sometimes feel that the dress or skirt makes it easier for people to "dismiss" the concept of guys in heels because they just assume that I want to be a woman. So while wearing a dress is exciting and fun, I do also enjoy wearing my heels with trousers because I feel that makes more of the statement that I want to make.

Jeff, I'm sure you'll have a lot of success and fun incorporating dresses into your repetoire, and I hope it will inspire other guys who would really like to try a dress but don't believe that a guy could ever make it work.

  13. Now I'm curious, what was your second link supposed to be? I tried a quick search on your "Grandpa" clue and found this strange homage to a Mark Twain quote https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=qgpsGmGyG0Q#t=46 but I don't think a Bill cover would do much for it.

Now this on the other hand may be a suitable challenge for our dear starfleet captain

  14. I do however recall seeing something vaguely similar a while ago on eBay's  oriental/Asian sellers sites. I also remember someone telling me that it is possible to do a 'picture match' or 'image match' using Google images, but being a technophobe I haven't a scoobie how to go about it. Maybe someone else knows how to do this...?

If you do a Google search for something like "knee boots heels fur", then click "Shopping" to see the shopping results. Find a pair similar to what your looking for and click that pair to bring up the details for that product (still within Google). If those details show a link for "Visually Similar Items" then click that and voila!

  15. I like the simplicity of your outfit 6inch-heaven, it looks perfect for going out for a drink or meal with friends. Sometimes us guys can look a bit top-heavy with a bright top because of our broad shoulders and narrow hips, but the length of your top looks just right to counteract that, and in your photos those black skinny jeans taper down to your heels really nicely. I would feel fabulous wearing that outfit and I hope you do too. Please do let us know how you get on when you do wear it going out.

  16. Very cool boots ramon020, really sharp looking and a great way to smarten up a pair of jeans!

.... but I do hope you don't sit like that on the train (like those guys who take up the seat either side of them because they can't sit with their knees closer than 50cm to each other)! ;)
