allheel Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 Most wearers of narrow heels have the experience of scuffing and wearing of the back of the heel from the times sinking into softish ground or walking on rocky ground. The leather covering of the heel (when present) tends to get a bit rough at first and later to slightly part company and later part may come off, leaving a white or differently coloured plastic. Can anyone suggest either how to repair the covering and/or how to colour or dye the plastic so that the damage doesn't look obvious.

Dr. Shoe Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 If it is just a matter of touching up colour, then magic markers are ideal. Some art shops will do them in a such a variety of colours you will almost certainly find a match. To repair scuffed leather, you need wax. A crayon or candle will do it. Just rub it on until you have a build-up, warm it until shiny and then polish it up. Holes can be patched using pieces of matching leather and then filling the gaps with wax as above. Glue leather back in place with a thin coat of bostic or evostick contact adhesive, allow to dry before pressing together (coat both surfaces).
