I always find interest in the historical perspective. While reading this article I cannot help but think "The more things change, the more they stay the same!" Even back in '73 when the prevailing fashion was somewhat un-inspiring, certain people wanted to look hot and their wishes were met.

It was pointed out to me once by an older gentleman that fashions recycle approximately every 25 years. It was about 40 years ago that I was told this and it has proven to be pretty much the case over time. Right now all the style variants are in play but expect stilettos to drop off over the next 3-5 years again. Those of us here don't care about the mass movements though.

Bad news everyone: Heels went out of fashion in 1965!

Edit: I stand corrected, it went out of fashion in 1960!

This one's a full page 56k=no

I'm starting to think the prognosticators who predict the demise of heels are only slightly less accurate and numerous than those who predict the end of the world!

depending on where you live will determine how fast fashion cylces about. heel heights move up and down for many factors.. one of which is economics. one commentator on tv said...when times get hard.. skirts get longer and heels lower. so far he's been dead on correct. in some stores where i could easily find 5 inch heels.. not it's nearly impossible to find such heels.. tallest being 4.5 inch now.. and the store owner who i chat with at times says he's going to drop it to 4 inch soon.. he feels the lowest it will go though is 3 inch.. then the thicker heels will spring out before stiletoes come back. but they do come back..and for many, they never go away (hence keeping great care for them) RPM

That may be correct, but as long as the young female celebrities keep wearing stiletto heels, there is always going to be a market for them. Fortunately or unfortunately media wise, they are driving the boat.
