bigj3650 Posted January 29, 2005 Posted January 29, 2005 What exactally does the metal shank do when refering to a 3 or 4 " high heel because i have an idea that could revolutionise high heel wearing. but for it to work i need to know what the metal shank does and if i could use somthing like carbon fiber or somthing like that. p.s if you two want to know the idea then contact me on msn insane_broken_mind_2005@hotmail.co.uk J
Dr. Shoe Posted January 29, 2005 Posted January 29, 2005 The shank is a stiffener that keeps the shape of the arch. Without it the sole would just collapse in the middle. BTW how can you invent an alternative if you don't know what the original thing does? Graduate footwear designer able to advise and assist on modification and shoe making projects.
Firefox Posted January 30, 2005 Posted January 30, 2005 My thoughts exactly! You'll also find metal shanks in most shoes, eg Mens dress shoes with 1" heels. The sole still has an arch in it, although shallower.
