  1. In reading one of the other threads, I came across this post by JeffB...

What takes a great deal of effort, and courage is going out into the world in women's shoes, being able to endure being in the fishbowl, dealing with the stares, double takes, muffled giggles from behind your back, even the occasional hurled insult about your sexual preference.

Which made me wonder what, those brave souls here that have (and still do) dare to wear their heels in public, have endured.

What is the worst reaction you've encountered? If it got particularly bad, how did you get out of the situation?

How did your friends respond when they first found out?

Personally, the only times I've been bold enough to wear them in public was for Halloween which made it much easier to get away with. :D

  2. Well, I don't know if Jeff is gay or not, but if he's not, the fact that he's African American isn't going to help him by itself in this situation. The bummer is what he's doing will be seen as crossdressing (however mildly so) if it ever gets to court and most societies still find that too taboo. Hence, I say he's very lucky he found a place so accomodating. Way to go Jeff!

  3. Or, they're really worried about a sexual discrimination complaint.

I'm not so sure they'd be in much trouble if they singled Jeff out for his fashion choices. I recall a few of my male coworkers a while back had long hair. After the company we were working for lost the contract, the new company that took over explicitly stated to those men that they had to cut their hair or could not report back to work.

Most decided to leave, but one pursued the matter legally and he got nowhere.

Still, if Jeff has found a place which is accepting of his choices, then right on! In the immortal words of Bob Dylan... "times they are a' changin'..."

  4. Mmmmm...."Extremes." These are one of my all-time favorites. I have several of them in various colors and are the highest I can wear and walk in without looking like a new born giraffe. I've found a few different manufacturers that offered this style, but my favorite has to be from Frederick's of Hollywood. I think they were the first ones to put these out. They fit and look fabulous on. I was thoroughly bummed when they discontinued it. :D Excellent choice Heelboy.
