  1. What made we want to start wearing heels?

I first wore high heels when I was very little, I used to run around in mums and my grandmothers heels. I didn't know that/ remember that until I was told much later by family, and that came about after everyone knew of my open passion for high heels. So I guess I had some sort of propensity for it from day one?

In my teens/ early twenties I was fascinated with women wearing high heeled shoes, the instep, exposed arch, the low vamp, toe cleavage etc which is all so very different to mens shoe styles...

I wanted to feel what it was like to wear these high shoes, and I specifically wanted to know what the stiletto heel style felt like.

Well once I got pairs of my own heels I found them exquisite to wear on many levels.  The emotions attached to high heels are numerous, to cut a long story short after a lot of apprehension, a lot of perseverance, a bit of embarassment, I started getting a lot of enjoyment, increased confidence, then empowerment.

I am addicted to high heels, I feel under dressed without them, it doesn't feel right when I walk without clickety clicking... I like having my pelvis tilted forward, shoulders back, and the curve in the small of my back, that my high heels create. Having to have good posture and core strength has been good for me.

  2. Hi all,

I love the sound my heels make. I enjoy feeling my high heels touch and hearing the clickety clicks. I love the vibration through the arch of my high heel shoes if I scrape a heel while I'm walking along (usually due to a change in pavement level etc)

The sound is essential. I think for any heel wearer its probably an important thing.

Everyone looks towards the sound of high heels, to check out the wearer and the shoes - or is it the shoes and the wearer? (probably depends on whether you love high heels or not)

High heels empower me, the attention I can draw with them (if I wish to) is amazing. The sound of my heels is advertising.

  3. Hi,

spend enough time in heels and you learn to appreciate flats. Its just nice to have low vamp style shoes that are pretty and also flat!

I always carry a pair of flats in my bag, and I have a pair of ballet flats in both cars

    cheers

  4. Hi Amanda,

wow that link is spectacular in the sense of outrageous style and mastery of those ballet heels.

They might as well be wearing body paint and a corset.... very figure revealing....and restricting...

I note neither girl is wearing pumps, they're boots with lacing so I am guessing that helps by firm fitting and taking weight away from the toes?

  5. Hi,

barefeet always is my first choice.

I look after my legs and am not afraid to show them.

Soft leather lined heels are comfortable and mold to your feet. I find any hosiery causes me to slide further down my heels, especially after wearing for a few hours.

Proper nylons if thats what we're talking about (non-stretch fully fashioned?) then they are the worst for that slipping. I find the need to wear a suspender belt is impractical and limits my options for skirts for regular wear. I enjoy the glamour associated with FF nylons and suspenders etc on special occasions buts thats just for me.

I only really wear any hosiery for fun - eg stylish tights in winter, or I wear very sheer black stockings (max 10 denier) if a formal dress code requires it, such as cocktail evening. Otherwise I'm in bare legs & bare feet!

  6. Hi crotchhiboots,

thanks - yes I had thought of more support via a bootie style, but I prefer pumps because they do not shorten the length of my legs, the lower vamp and bare leg elongates, whereas ankle straps/ ankle boots shorten the leg. I'll focus on making sure my weight is back, the arch on those pumps is pretty high so they are taking a lot of my weight by their design, I'll see what more I can do.

Maybe I should try some boots as a comparison.

  7. Hi all,

I wear high heels plenty and I've been interested in trying these heels (and similar styles into my wardrobe for variety and for fun) but I struggle to wear them for long?

Is there any way to be able to wear these for enough time to be practical?

I have no issue with the heel itself - its my toes that can't handle the pressure. Let my toes flatten out like normal pumps and I'd be fine, but my weight is all on my tips of my toes. For about 10 mins I'm ok. Walking around etc is not much harder than my highest standard heels, but its the pain after 10-15 mins that starts to get to me and I need to take the weight off.

I have tried padding the toe area which helped a bit

I don't want to wear these all the time, because this style is a little silly, I'd just like to be able to stand for say half an hour it needed to, so that they could be practical?

  8. Hi all,

I quite like the current edgy trend where you wear hold ups (or a tight that looks as though it is a stocking), then some bare upper thigh is exposed above your hold up but below your skirt hemline, or your short shorts leg line.

When you tilt your hips (eg weight shift on to one leg when standing, or when walking) a bit more bare thigh is exposed, and when standing straight you usually reveal an inch or two of bare leg only.

it looks awesome, and feels very empowering to wear.

  9. Hi Barfly,

In the spirit of encouraging others (and being a bit of an exhibitionist), I put the mini, top and heels on and got a friend to take some shots using her phone this morning. (qualitys not good sorry)

I also wore a lilac & pink chunky necklace as well, which had metal collars all round it - hard to explain but it sat in among the folds of the cowl neck top.

    Coordinated nicely with the skirt.

I forgot it for these photos.

  10. Hi SleekHeels,

naturally the shape of skirts & dresses is tricky without the small waistline that girls have.

I hadn't thought of colour for enhancing the shapely look, it may well do but that hadn't occurred to me.

That mini is a tulip mini, so it has a very slight amount of puff to it and it nips back at the hem which sits just under my bottom.

For shape I wear a-lines, circle skirts, skater and tulip skirts.

The tulip skirt has medium curvy shape and is less risqué.

The first three can be an 'unexpected nuisance' in the wind/breeze especially when very short so good looking underwear is usually essential just in case.

I also wear pencil skirts/ bodycons but I'll generally only wear these with a peplum style top or a jacket otherwise I am too stick like.

I prefer a pencil skirt to be a few fingers above the knee so I find them a bit hot for mid summer.

I do have a couple of dresses in fit & flare style with dark triangle patches at the hips, and bright colour elsewhere, looking at them I can see it creates a black space on each side of my waist suggesting a smaller waist (as it would for anyone wearing such a dress) so I think you might be right about claver use of colours and pattern.

  11. Hi Barfly,

Being a big night and all, I didn't get too dressy, but still wanted to be good looking.

I wore a fitted black capped sleeve fine woollen top, a bright coloured mini skirt (mainly yellows & pinks with white and black) and black stiletto pumps.

A simple outfit with a pop of colour on the miniskirt (approx 13 inch miniskirt), I got lots of compliments on my mini & legs so I was enjoying myself.

    cheers

  12. Hi Kickass,

I like both shoes and I think given you like the fit of both pairs it must come down to what look you need from the shoe.

In my opinion the Michael Kors flat is dressier with the fine tone on tone detailing (black to patent black) on the toe and the patent like piping around the outline of the shoe. They are also a little sexier because they have a lower cut vamp, and will expose more of your foot. That's why I prefer them.

The Tory Burch flats have an elasticated outline, slightly more coverage, and due to these two factors I find them less dressy and more casual, even despite the bolder ornamentation on the toe.

both are good choices, have fun!

  13. Sounds like you had fun at that party!

Regarding your dream, we're all different but what you're dreading is what I live with!

I could be summed up by 'chrome dome, mini skirt & high heels'

I'd love to have long hair, but mine just fell out years ago.....now when anyone asks about my chrome dome I just say its a 'solar panel for a sex machine'

  14. Those heels are actually quite cool in a crazy sort of way.

As long as the claw bits of the foot flex then they would behave just like a normal high heel.

I'd wear them... I don't know if I'd wear them to a wedding, actually I'm not sure what I'd wear them to but they are a statement shoe!!

  15. Heels2u,

I think Histiletto has some good points about flexibility and strength of your ankle.

From personal experience I spent literally years mastering very high heels (because I wanted to). I learnt wearing them all day & regular life situations is vastly harder than around home, and I really wanted to wear the higher shoes but just couldn't do it gracefully, so I honestly spent at least 3 years gradually getting higher and higher.

And then one new years day (after partying all night beforehand) I slipped off my high heels, took one step & tore some ligaments/ tendons in my left foot. Bummer of a way to start a new year. I couldn't walk for 2-3 days, then I had to be bandaged for 1 month, then in trainers for the next 4 months. I followed doctors orders, then stayed for an extra 6 months in trainers only , stretched heaps, ran long distances up hill to strengthen etc because I was determined to get it sorted.

The point of what I am rambling to is that when I got back to wearing heels I found had no ankle strength in the left (injured ankle). I still knew how to handle high heels, the shoes felt & responded just as they used to, and I would head off out, expecting everything would be fine for a city block, and then all of sudden my left ankle tired and I couldn't control the heel of the shoe properly, and I would be rolling my ankle sideways. I would get the shakes in the ankle & foot, when I never used to. Not at all graceful, very incompetent looking!

What I did was resist the urge to wear my higher heels and alas I had to drop back to lower heels, which I wore daily for another 3-4 months. Then I introduced my very-highs back into the shoe mix, by wearing them twice a week. I altered the very-high / high mix for another 3-4 months after which I found I could handle continual wearing of my highest shoes again!

All in all patience is the game, it isn't a race, it is a lifestyle choice and I have found it takes serious commitment to do it well.

This is why to this very day, I only wear flats/very low heels at home, and I alter my heel heights daily, and always push up to my highest heels for a day every week or two in order to maintain strength & flexibility in my feet. I also run a lot to increase blood flow to soft tissue in my feet and stretch my feet whenever I take my heels off.

In your case I think you might have enough flexibility to wear your heels (I didn't originally) but you don't have the strength conditioning to sustain wearing them?

You might need to drop back down heel height, do an apprenticeship in lower heels and gain strengthening & conditioning, and then reintroduce the higher heel back?

It might take some time because it will depend on how much you wear high heels. You need to wear them a lot if you are going to condition your muscles. The less often you wear heels the longer it will take.

    Hopefully this rambling is useful.

  16. Here's a little bit of light humour,

when I go to the pub without a skirt or a dress I get teased by the restaurant/bar owner for being in 'mufti'.

He says "I didn't know it was mufti day today?..."

Other's tease me for wearing 'fancy dress' when I'm dressed in regular menswear.

  17. Despite regularly wearing dresses with heels and being comfortable doing so I wouldn't rate myself more than a 4.

I am still very concerned that I must look good in others eyes, so I could not say I just don't care.

I want to know in my mind that I look good, and I am absorbing peripheral and direct feedback on what others think all the time, especially what women think as they are a better judge.

I am evolving my look and my confidence grows through this process. If people don't like my look I re-evaluate what I was wearing.

Nowadays I am getting oodles of positive feedback.

    I doubt I will ever reach a 5 because I am vain.

  18. Hi mlroseplant,

I have read your comments on the outfit you had concerns about, white short shorts, hosiery and heels.

Firstly you have a good figure so you can wear that look just fine.

Next it looks as though you had sheer pale hosiery on (not opaques), which means you wax/shave your legs?

I too have very pale complexion but I choose not to worry about it and I deal with it by using spray tan or...using traditional black/white pairings in what I wear.

For instance I would wear the same outfit you had (and truly do) but with slight differences...

    1. Go bare legged (it looks as though you had sheer hosiery on, not opaques, which suggests you groom your legs? - if so bare them

    2. Try a basic black stiletto pump - the classic profile looks awesome - go quite high if you're up to it - or you could still rock the wedges

    3. Try black short shorts instead - dark colour will also mask underwear which can show through white garments...

    4. Try a very fitted top (cap sleeved) - even try a bold colour that suits you such as royal blue, or neon pink?

    5. Add some coordinated items - black bag. black watch, black cuff, a black hat etc.... to tie in with the shoes

    cheers

  19. Hi,

I too like pantyhose but I like all hosiery.

I find that my shoes are looser with hosiery, in some of my really high heels I find I slip more as I slide down the hill into the toes.

Sling backs are the biggest nuisance with hosiery, a perfect pair of slings can become a right nuisance and I constantly walk out of the shoes with hosiery on....

My only general hosiery no no's are hosiery that is darker than the shoes and any hosiery being worn with peep-toes is not a good look. Peep toes demand a pedicure.

I mainly go bare legged now because its summer but I still wear hosiery for colour/fashion.

I like holdups mainly for practicality (I never have issues with slippage), suspending is the comfiest option but I find less variety of hosiery are pure stockings so I don't suspend much anymore.

This winter I enjoyed wearing the bold geometric patterns & floral motifs on my legs.

I wore sheer black pantyhose this spring with short shorts which was on trend.

Ironically I don't like pantyhose in warmer months, however I would prefer the discretionary protection they would afford me with a mini.

But if choosing between being too hot or having the occasional skirt malfunction, I'd choose a malfunction as it is only very brief, and old news within a few seconds

    Regards
