  1. As you have probably guessed, an adjustable heel height shoe is not a new idea.

They show up periodically, make the rounds of the magazines and TV news and fa de away. There was one a couple years ago that went into production, at least they had a web site, not sure if they sold many -- I didn't find the shoes particularly attractive and the "high" position was not especially high.

Having said all that, though, I am intrigued by your idea of interchangeable heel widths and designs.

The proposed hinge behind the ball of the foot is OK, but what about the angle at the top of the heel? As you raise the heels, they would start to lean back.

Here are some ideas (Google patent search) to get you started.

  2. .....I presume you mean EBay US? There are more than 7 main EBay sites......

I put 704b into the search box on eBay.com (US site)and it found about a dozen pairs and an odd assortment of other things with 704b in the model number.

    Here's all 30

  3. I buy women's jeans because: - The shortest legs commonly available on men's pants are 30 inch which is sometimes too long for me. If a woman's style is too long, I can usually buy Petite length. - While I don't desire skin tight or especially skinny legs, men's jeans are usually too baggy. Many stores carry almost all loose fit pants and promote it as a feature. Yuck! - Men's shorts are ridiculously baggy looking on me, so I buy women's shorts, too. I'm not sure if I own any men's pants at all.

  4. I don't think OP means elevator shoes, he's suggesting using the word stilt or lift in place of heels. Whatever you want to call them is fine with me, but I think it will only confuse things. When I hear "lift," like the first couple respondents, I think of elevator shoes, or occasionally an extra 1/4 inch of heel on a traditional broad-heeled man's shoe. I think this is the way most people respond. Sometimes extreme heels are called stilts, mostly to make fun of someone else's choice of heel height.

  5. ...The trade journals, like Footwear News, give 90% of the space to women's shoes, 5% to men's shoes, and 5% to children's shoes...

...and 90% of the children's shoes are girls'.

  6. It appears they're filling their stores with the most commonly sold styles and sizes and leaving everything else to online. A few years ago, the typical store had more styles than the web site, because they always had a few left-overs from prior seasons, often at great discounts. Now online has lots of styles, but very little true variety. I just got an email encouraging me to buy flip-flops; there were dozens of styles, 90% flat and no heels or platforms over an inch or two.

  7. ... Answering a question to take a measurement means I will have to unpack and re-pack the item...

I pack and weigh, but leave the box unsealed. That makes it easier if someone asks a question. Also, I need the box open until I ship so I can include a packing slip.

  8. - Check your junk mail - Call them A few times I was fuming and fussing about no way to check order status and no response to emails. Finally I called, and in every case found that the order was on the way and: - in spite of a fancy web site, they really don't do computers well and never saw the email because it got spammed or because the one person who knows how to check it is on vacation. As others have said, you can call Spain for at most a couple dollars, and more likely for a few cents. My home service, Ooma, charges 2.2 cents per minute.

  9. I just bought a pair of Kork Ease Bette sandals. Although they list for $149, Amazon had a couple pairs for $75 so I bought them. The various online write-ups say they heels are 4 1/4 or 4 1/2 inches and the platform is quoted as 1 inch. On my size 11, the heel is 5 inches and the platform 1 1/4 inches. The straps are soft (but not overly so) leather and the footbed is nicely padded. Many times with sandals you find that it's hard to find the right adjustment, they're either too loose with the straps falling down off your heel, or too tight and cutting into the back of your heel. On the Kork Ease, the straps are somehow positioned so that the sandals stay on over a wide range of adjustment. Each sandal weighs only 13 ounces which is very light for any shoe, especially 5 inch wedges. They are easy to walk in, the soles have the right amount of curve, and although the heel and sole are tapered they feel quite stable. Unlike many sandals and clogs, when I walk, these don't catch my pants between my heel and the sandal, so they're good stealth heels, though the platforms and my suspiciously long lower legs are obvious to some observers (like me).

  10. I'll join the nay-sayers, it's got a ways to go. Looking at the in-stock styles, if you like something, there's no way to order it other than remembering the style number then hunting it up in the listings. The pictures don't work on FireFox 3.0.17 (Ubuntu) either, but do work OK on Google Chrome 4.0 (Ubuntu). They might consider a better way to handle currency conversion, linking to an exchange rate chart doesn't exactly make it easy.

  11. To me, putting the term "Designer" on something is pretty meaningless. After all, even Crocs, Uggs, and $2.00 flip-flops were designed by someone. I guess it's like "French" vanilla "Gourmet" coffee or as our local convenience store proudly proclaims, "Gourmet Flavored Coffee" (is it flavored with real gourmets?) Ok, I've had my rant. Oh, and I agree, they look like wax shoes that were left out in the sun or something drawn by Don Martin.

  12. In my past experience, Western Ranch is very slow at dealing with email. You'll have much better results with them by calling.

If you decide to go for a more modest heel, there is also Paul Bond. They measure heels at the side seam, so their 3 1/2 inch heel (not on order form, just write it in) measures a bit over 4 at the back where everyone else seems to measure. They may be able to go a bit higher, but that's really pushing the limits of their last.

Picture is my 3 1/2 inch heel size 10 Paul Bond boots.
