Wow those sure are attention getters.  How about a picture of the boots worn over your jeans so we get the full effect?

Sorry so long with the photos. Also showing the Vibram soles.

If you missed the first post they're from Miguel Jones custom-boots.net, with 5 inch heels, well made, and very comfortable, $225 + shipping. It took about 8 weeks from order to arrival.

I daresay you'll walk many a happy mile in those. They look built to last

Miguel Jones quality has improved quite a bit since he first appeared online. I have 4 pairs. The ones in the photo are my newest and they're extremely comfortable in spite of the 5 inch heels.

  4. I was browsing the aisles of my local odd lots store when I heard a pair of heels quickly tapping by. I looked up and saw a nicely dressed woman in her twenties wearing a short skirt, stockings, and a pair of beige patent-leather pointed-toe pumps with 4-5 inch stiletto heels.

Before I had a chance to move in her direction, I heard another shopper speak to her.
Shopper: Those are beautiful shoes, but I’d fall flat on my face if I tried to wear them.

Heels: Thank you! It just takes practice.

Shopper: I don’t think I could walk in those if I practiced 10 years, don’t they hurt?

Heels: No they’re Italian made of real leather. It makes a huge difference. I learned how to wear them at modelling school when I lived in Philadelphia. The teacher there wore heels higher than these like they were bedroom slippers.

    Shopper:  [indistinct]

Heels: I need to get back to work. [laughs] It does take me longer to walk places.

At that moment my girlfriend walked up and told me she was done and ready to go. I couldn’t think of a way to find Ms. Heels and snap a picture, but thought I'd post the conversation here anyways.

  5. Isn't there an ugly shoes topic somewhere on this board. I wanted to add a find.

The attached press nearly all my ugly buttons; plastic looking, bad color, low back trying to be a clog, looks like snaps on the side for a strap of some sort, elastic gores, and a center seam. Oh, and they're men's worn with shorts.

  6. I have 2 pairs of his stock styles, though neither was in stock when I ordered. Each time it took about 3 weeks for them to arrive (US address). I wear US men's 10D, so having read lots of sizing complaints, I ordered size 9 in the camel suede stock boots with 20 inch tops and 3 inch extreme undershot heels. They're still a bit big but quite wearable with a pair of foam insoles added. The second pair is the stock 20 inch square toe boots with 4 inch heels. These I ordered in size 8 1/2. Unfortunately they're quite narrow, so I might be happier with size 9 in these (but the length is right). Comparing the two pairs, the shafts on the camel suede boots are a bit wide for me, and curiously the heels are exactly the same height -- 4 inches at the back.

  7. Clogs are my year round shoe staple. Nearly all mine are from Sanita. Short story, Sanita used to manufacture Dansko in Europe. They had a split with Dansko who now makes theirs in China. Sanita are still made in Europe, mostly Poland. I think I have a total of 8 pairs of assorted clogs. Yes, it's true that I only see another man wearing clogs once or twice a year, but nobody has ever even remotely implied that they disapproved of my work footwear choices -- this is in a conservative New England government office. I've even worn them at the gym a few times.

  8. Hi - joined a while ago but am still new.   Been trotting about at the office in my Black Suede Frye Campus 14s for some time.

I feel reasonably confident in these, but they are an innocuous 2-inch stacked heel. I've been clocked once by a guy who said "oh, you're wearing womens boots today", but I heard that my boss told him to back off afterwards.   Last week, I decided to pair my Hush Puppy Affectionate heeled loafers with some longer black bootcut jeans. Felt good and got complimented on the jeans more than anything else by one of the chaps who sits near me. I was being hauled all over for meetings and, towering over the shorties, felt a little conspicuous so bottled it by about 3pm and changed back to sneakers. This, despite wearing the same outfit (plus floral top) to a work do in front of 150 colleagues!

Shall just have to keep trying to overcome the confidence issues. But all-in-all pretty good.   Iain.
Men's Frye Campus boots used to have that same heel, maybe a layer or two higher. I like the heels on the loafers, I'd wear them to work no problem, but personally, I don't like the vamp cut so low. Great choices!
  9. How is the sizing with that style? I usually take a woman's 10.5 but some brands are made smaller so, I find I'm better off to buy an 11 than a 10. Does this style run true to size?

Assuming you're asking about the Skechers High Fly, I have the Plus-3 Rebound which are probably made with the same last and seem pretty true to size to me. Perhaps a bit narrow. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008I0SDS0/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  10. It's not just heels, it's shoes in general. Went shopping recently for some men's running shoes for myself. First stop was our local Target store - the shoe department as set up with shelves about 20 feet long and 5 feet high.

The men's shoes took up both sides of one aisle, with maybe 10-20 distinct styles

The boy's shoes took up both sides of one aisle, with the same 10-20 distinct styles

The girl's shoes took up both sides of 2 aisles, with about 20-30 distinct styles

The women's shoes took up both sides of 6 aisles, with probably over 100 distinct styles

I mentioned to my wife that what we are seeing is a clear and distinct case of discrimination!

You're right there. Men have been stuck in just a few basic styles and colors for decades. It takes a long time for men to adopt anything close to a new style.

When Swedish wood sole clogs showed up on the scene in the late sixties, they were completely unisex. Today if you try to find men's clogs, you'll find mostly Crocs and those hideous suede slip on things from Merrill.

If anything some styles seem to have disappeared -- when is the last time you saw a man wearing ankle high side zip boots, or for that matter, any boots that are not job specific. Add to that the lack of colors, heel height selection, and buckles or anything decorative and you end up where we are today.

They might as well close all men's shoe stores (are there any exclusively for men?) and issue each male a pair of shoes at birth. When they come of age, they must select black or brown as the life color for their annual pair of replacement shoes. Upon application men may also receive a pair of white sneakers.

  11. Looks like Adidas and Reebok are getting into the wedge sneaker game.

    Vans, too.

    My review on Zappos:

I'm a guy that likes to occasionally wear heels. I like the style and the feel of that little extra boost under my feet.

Since heels on the men's side of the shops are pretty much non-existent, it's necessary to venture across the aisle. Once a guy arrives on the other side, he finds lots of heels, but most of them are attached to lace, pink, narrow, small and decidedly feminine looking footwear, but what would you expect in a women's shoe department? Fortunately it's not all pastel, stilettos, and frills, there are occasionally some more masculine chunky heeled boots and loafers along with perhaps a big soled pair of clogs or two. Some even come in more guy friendly large sizes.

A recent style has gladdened the hearts of many male heel fans, that's the hidden wedge sneaker trend. Stealth heels, finally, hooray! But a little shopping finds that practically no one makes them over women's size 10, which works out to men's 8 1/2 at best. Boo!

You can imagine my excitement when I found Vans SK-8 HI Wedge on Zappos. Not only do they come as large as women's 11 1/2, but Zappos itself lists them as "Men's 10, Women's 11.5", my size! I was even more surprised when they arrived and the only size on the shoes and box is "Men US 10" The fit is nearly perfect, if anything they're a half size large. The styling is great, they seem well made, and are very comfortable indeed. But do understand, the 5 star comfort rating is in comparison to other shoes with 3 inch heels -- after all, they are high heels.

Thank you Vans and Zappos, let's keep the trend going.

  12. Onyourtoes: Great to hear about the Vans, so they feel like a full 3", higher then the other brands? I have been wearing my Nike's a lot, but am tempted by the Pumas and Adidas.

From what I've seen in online descriptions, the Vans are the highest of the big name athletic shoe brands. Outside that brand group, they are nothing special, perhaps a tiny bit higher than Skechers Plus 3, and about the same as my pair of Soda cheapies. My men's Buffalo 2208 are noticably higher, though. (the Buffalos can be found on Solestruck.com in many mostly out of stock colors)
  13. Here's my recent purchases: (from lowest to highest) 1. Sanita black patent open back clogs. Sorry, barely a heel in sight, but I've never seen another guy wearing a pair, and I do wear these anywhere. From clogoutlet.com post-37-0-37707200-1375648548_thumb.jpg 2. Vans SK-8 Hi Wedge. I do like my stealth heels. The big names have joined the wedge sneaker fad, Reebok, Adidas, Nike, Vans, and probably others. Except for the Vans, they're all 2 1/2 inches and under. I was surprised that the Vans are a bit over 3 inches. I bought them on Zappos and, of course, they're listed as women's, so I was surprised when I looked at the size drop down -- the size equivalents for men and women are given. Sadly, they stop at Men's 10/Women's 11.5, but they are the full size, maybe a bit big. I was even more surprised when they arrived and both the box and shoes are only marked Men 10! Definitely all day comfort. Zappos.com post-37-0-67830900-1375648557_thumb.jpg post-37-0-00488000-1375648553_thumb.jpg 3. Miguel Jones Cowboy Boots. Miguel Jones appeared on the scene a couple years ago with 5 inch heel cowboy boots. I didn't buy a pair because the heel shape didn't look right on cowboy boots, and some of their other heel heights looked no better. Recently they started selling a stock boot specified as Camel suede leather with 20 inch tops, round toes, and extreme undershot 3 inch heels. I liked their appearance so I ordered a pair, $175 + $9 shipping from Mexico. They arrived in about 3 weeks and as you can see, they're really nice boots, especially considering the price. Do be aware though, many people have complained that their boots were too big in size. I think they're using Mexican sizing, so I ordered one full size down, and they could still be a bit smaller. I'm tempted by their 4 inch heel square toe boots, and if I buy them, I'll order 1 1/2 sizes small. Oh, almost forgot, the heels are about 2 3/4 inches at the side seam, and a full 4 inches measuring vertically from the back. http://www.custom-boots.net/stock.html post-37-0-06036700-1375648539_thumb.jpg post-37-0-54582300-1375648543_thumb.jpg 4. From eBay, "New Fashion Wedges Party/Prom 6 inch High Heel Women's Sandals" As advertised, they are a full 6 inches at the back, but I don't think I'd wear them to a party or prom -- they're so cheaply made they probably wouldn't survive a night of dancing. As expected, they're 100% plastic, and the straps have stretched quite a bit. They only came as large as 10 and I wear 11, but between hanging a bit off the back, and the stretchy construction, they fit fine. I'm not sure if they're worth the $25 I paid for them (at least it was free shipping). post-37-0-38211900-1375648529_thumb.jpg post-37-0-28123500-1375648534_thumb.jpg

  14. DO always purchase your heels later in the day and not early in the morning.

"Your foot is at its most swollen point early in the morning and you won't get as a good a fit as say, later in the afternoon," explained Dr. Positano.

That's backwards from everything I've ever heard (and personal experience). Don't feet get bigger during the day?

Earlier today I was going into a store when my heel radar started beeping. I looked back and saw a tall woman coming towards the door wearing sling backs with full 5 inch stiletto heels with no platform -- just about the highest heels I ever saw in the wild. When my overloaded senses started working I looked up and realized she was my primary care physician!

I guess she missed that day in medical school...

  15. Let's high heel great! The problem shopping for shoes there is finding large sizes. I think most women's fashion shoes stop at about size 7 1/2 - 8 (US women's), and men's shoes don't go much over 10. Once in Yokohama Station I saw a man wearing a business suit and red open toe platforms, they were about 5 inches. My Japanese friends (female) were quite embarrassed and kept assuring me that this was very unusual. The first time I was in Japan high platform boots were the rage. They were mostly black, knee high, with 4 inch wedge platforms with a very small heel rise. Many school age girls (probably boys, too) leave the house in ordinary clothes and change first chance they get. I've been told that some rent lockers to hide their cool street outfits in. I was affiliated with an American school that hosted students from Japan for a semester. On the day before the students returned to Japan, there was always a run on CVS (local chemists) buying black hair dye to undo their blonde away from home hair.
