About Me

My Heel Journey

I've always loved the look of heels and as a kid I pleaded with Mom to let me have a pair. I was finally allowed to wear training heels in my first year of high school, age 11. They were only 2" and I could only put them on outside school, but they were stilettos and I felt so grown up wearing them.

By 13 all my shoes had 3" heels apart from the brogues I had to wear to school and some sneakers I wore to walk my pet dog. My high school allowed heels from 9th grade, so by 14 I was living in 3" or 4" heels. I lived seven tenths of a mile from school and walked there and back every day which was good training.

There was no 11th grade and I enrolled at a technical college when I was 16 to continue my schooling. That was in a another town so I walked a mile to the train station and another half mile to college at the other end. My friends were amazed I could do it in heels but it became easier the more I did it. In the second year I was wearing 5" heels most days.

By my late 20s my achilles tendons had shortened and I was finding it painful to walk any distance in bare feet or flat slippers. I switched to wedge slippers, and nowadays I wear at least 4" sandals with a cork wedge heel to lounge around at home because I need the height.
