  1. I grabbed another pair of heels from Mercari. Officially, I'm an 11W. Most times, I size up to a 12 and get heel grips. It usually works. These, I'm not sure if I'll need a heel grip. Haven't had a chance to do more than try them on and walk around the bedroom yet so time will tell.

  2. Just picked up these Nine West Rocha3s for $20 on clearance. I love the almond toe shape but the toe box is a bit snug. Being synthetic, I don't see that improving much with break-in. I've worn them about the house for an extended period and I wouldn't call them uncomfortable but I wouldn't call them comfortable either.

It was not my intention to stir up any hornets nests or to quibble over semantics.   My apologies to anyone who has felt misled, obstructed or offended.   I agree that, in many dictionaries and in common parlance, a sandal is regarded as a light shoe - but we (as comparative experts) can and do distinguish a shoe (generally of wholly or largely closed construction) from a sandal (generally of largely open or perforated construction).

My sole point (no pun intended for once) that someone looking at the 'New Sandals' thread would not find Peeptoe's latest and attractive purchase there, as one would rightly expect.   No big deal, but we have that thread for a reason.

    .

I agree.   We are all, in our different ways, seekers of truth as well as pleasure and ought not to dilute our postings with vague or innaccurate references when we know better.   We might not all agree on a precise 'sandal' definition (or whatever) but we surely know one - and what is not one - when we see one.

You start with an apology but end with another barb. Very nice! It adds to the sincerity of it.

I don't care because the OP of this thread wanted to share any and all recent purchases.  The first post contains courts AND (gasp) boots!  The first few pages are filled with any and every type of footwear.  So my post fits perfectly well within the spirit of the OP back in 2007 even though that member no longer contributes.

we have that thread for a reason.

Yes, because the OP of that thread has a specific taste and wanted to encourage other members to share. Not because any site admin or moderator declared this thread too cluttered with different shoe types, so all future posts must be separated by shoe type in separate threads.

So until an actual moderator informs me that my post is in the wrong thread instead of wannabe moderator, I'll continue to contribute my shoe purchases to this all inclusive thread.

I can't agree.   Informally, one might use the term 'shoes' in substitution for what is generically 'footwear'.   And the most obvious and distinct sub-divisions of footwear are shoes, boots and sandals - for which this board provides separate topics, as I'm sure you have noticed.   (There are arguably some other sub-divisions too, and a degree of overlap, but that is not the issue here.)  What you bought would be correctly described as 'sandals' and really belong in 'Who Has Bought Some New SANDALS?',   But let's not lose any further sleep over it.

Merriam-Webster seems to disagree with you. As I stated, a sandal is a type of shoe.

    So, technically...

    And that's enough of that.

My sincerest apologies to everyone else trying to enjoy this thread.

I like these but would call them sandals, not shoes, so technically you are posting in the wrong thread!   As to platforms, these are as thick as I would ever consider acceptable; anything more just looks clumpy - especially with any sandal or open shoe.

Oh... So you're one of those.....

    Well let's see then.

Technically, a sandal is a specific type of shoe. The title of this thread does not specify a type of shoe. So I ,technically, didn't post in the wrong thread.

Just embrace the platform.. I love my platform heels.   LOL

I have many Jessica Simpson heels and they all have PLATFORMS. And they all get compliments everytime I wear one.

I’ve never been a fan of platform - to me they spoil the clean lines and elegance of a high heel - but some of the styles of shoes and sandals I’ve seen on here manage to retain that. I’ve seen several pair in posts lately that I could imagine wearing.

I've seen many platforms that I would love to have(especially Jessica Simpson shoes). But when the platform gets up to the 2" range, I'm not so easily enamoured.

Never had a pair of Gianni Bini before. Let us know how they work out! For something you just bought at a retail outlet, they look refreshingly normal!

My size (for reference) would be an 11W in women's shoes when I can  find them. If not, I try sizing up to a 12. It works well with most of the shoe styles I prefer but not so much with most pumps(heel gap).  It worked perfectly fine with this shoe style. The toe box is about as snug as you would expect from a 4" heel but not overly tight or pinching. The added length from sizing up is not noticeable.  The padding is decent and they're overall pretty comfortable. I haven't ever tried wearing them for extended periods of more than an hour so I can't say anything about long term comfort. But most of the reviews seem to approve in that regard.

As far as normal... seems the choices are getting slim for normalcy with platforms being the style for the year. Finding a reasonable sized platform can be a bit of a challenge.

I'll probably gamble on a pair of GB pumps before long if I catch the right sale.

  8. Seems that I'm a sucker for a Dillard's clearance sale. After going back and forth due to the "non returnable" status that the deep discounts come attached with, I settled on a couple pairs and saved a little over $100.  I have these in another color that's a lot bolder and not easily styled. So I patiently waited for the staple colors to go on sale.

I bought some peep toe half d'orsay pumps back in May. I tried on one in the store and it was snug but not uncomfortable.  Then I got home and put them both on and on the shoe I didn't try on in the store, the back of the shoe painfully dug into my tendon.  It was like they were two different size shoes. So unfortunately those had to go back.

I can remember being disappointed for the first time about the durability of what were some pretty expensive shoes. It was Halloween, and a friend and I were taking our kids trick-or-treating around the neighborhood. It had rained earlier that day, so everything was quite wet. I had a brand new to me pair of Via Spiga chunky heeled boots that I wanted to wear. I almost didn't, but then I thought, "Eh, they're boots! They're designed for this sort of thing."

Uh, no, they were not. I pretty much ruined those things in the space of two hours. The uppers actually fared pretty well, but the leather sole and the heel covering did not. Since I did not buy them new, I didn't have the opportunity to write any sort of review, but if I had, I really wonder if it would have been fair of me to pan the boots.

That would've been an opportunity for a comedic review....

    Just pretend these are gremlins....

    Don't feed them after midnight

And whatever you do.... DON'T GET THEM WET!

I'm always nervous about leather soled shoes and the potential for traversing catastrophic terrain. Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

People write reviews based on all sorts of loopy or idiosyncratic criteria. I noticed a review just this morning on Amazon where the reviewer gave a book a one-star review because it arrived a few days later than he had expected. So, no, a lot of reviews just aren’t fair or are simply useless, and that would apply to footwear as well.

Most reviews are useless anyway as they’re usually written a day or two after the item arrived - before the purchaser can possibly have used or worn it sufficiently to judge its merits.

I once saw a review for a pair of "70's style" shoes that raved about how mint they looked "considering they were made in the 70's"  😂🤣😂

But on the other hand, if there are a majority of women in the reviews saying that it killed their pinky toe or rubbed their ankles raw, then I move on because the odds are that my larger ankles and wider feet aren't going to be comfortable in them either.

I always leave reviews on the shoes or boots that I buy. I always include in my review that I'm a guy that likes to wear heels. It's a part of my life style. My reviews are always published and that's the way it should be. Heels are not only for women but for guys too. If you like the heels that you bought, guys post a review,

    Happy Heeling,

    bluejay

I typically will only leave a review on the shoes that fit. It's usually basic and to the point and starts with "I have a wide foot".... and either ends with "my normal size fit fine" or "I went up a size and it worked"

  11. As I shop online, I read the reviews seeking comments about fit to help my decision to buy. Something I see a lot more of recently, is men leaving negative reviews on women's shoes for a poor fit/width. So my question is this: Is this fair?

For me, I'm not a fan of it for the most part. I just don't feel it's fair to rate a shoe that's a B width negatively because my C width foot didn't fit.  If I leave a review, I keep that perspective in mind.

I was curious if anyone else has noticed this, and what their thoughts were.

I have many Jessica Simpson stilletoes and I find her heels a little tight, so I get most of hers in size 11.  But these were to large for me is size 11. So I had to get them in size 10.

I have a big toe box so I like adjustible toe boxes like these have. I will also have to add extra holes to both straps, but I have a leather hole puncher that makes this easy to do.

I have 2 pairs of JS and agree the toe box is tight if you have a wider foot. One pair is a sz11 half d'orsay cut that misses the widest part of my foot and the other is a pair of pumps in sz12 that I had to add a heel liner to absorb the added length. Dillard's website is listing the Prizma half d'orsay in wide width even in extended sizes FYI.

Been eyeing these in black. Can't decide whether to size up to 12 for width or go with the 11 since the front is adjustable.

I have not had any luck at DSW the past few years in finding larger sizes.  At least at the stores.  Most everything there stops at size 10.  I like trying on the shoes in person.   Merry Christmas all.....    sf

Luckily, even though I live in a small town, I can drive an hour in any direction and find a larger city to shop in. So I use the app to pre plan my trip. There usually aren't a lot of in store options but it's nice to check out what's in store before going.

I typically find more options in shoe store chains than I do in clothing stores like Macy's or Dillard's.

  15. Went shopping and dropped by DSW to try on some shoes. Ended up with these two pairs.

I needed a new pair of black pumps and the Jessica Simpson shoes fit really well in a sz 12. I find her brand typically runs too narrow for my feet most of the time.

The Madden Girl shoes are a sz 11 and are snug but not uncomfortable. So I wore them to an outdoor mall that I needed to stop at to break them in. I only needed to visit two stores there. But they were comfortable enough that I browsed a few others as well. I got a compliment from one of the young ladies in one of the stores that I stopped in. At one point the buckle on one shoe started to rub and the block heel took a bit of getting used to.

I was actually going to wear the JS shoes around the outdoor mall but even though the fit was perfect there was a bit of slippage at the heel as I walked from my vehicle so I went back and changed. I'll have to try some inserts for some grip on the back of my heel.

I can't really help you out directly for a couple of reasons: First, I am 2/3 of your weight, and second, the two pairs of Sam Edelman shoes I own are both clogs. Very high clogs, to be sure, but not dainty stilettos. The clogs, by the way, are very sturdy, and could probably withstand twice the force I put on them without flinching. What I can tell you for sure is this: The thickness of a heel does not necessarily indicate its sturdiness. I have a number of pairs of very thin stiletto heels which are rock solid and do not visibly move when I walk. On the other hand, I've got some block heels that absolutely do move, and give you that sense of dread that something is eventually going to give.

I have a pair of Hazel pumps which are very solid. So I may take a chance solely from brand reputation.  But you are correct, the only way to know for sure is to try them on.

  17. Do any of you guys have any experience with these Sam Edelman heels? I'm in love with the style but I'm terrified that skinny heel will not hold my 200lb frame. I've had similar platform heels(but much cheaper) that feel like the heel will break with every step. And the cost of these makes my anxiety about it surge. But they're so beautiful lol...

Thanks in advance for your help.  🙂

Those look very nice.  I like the strappy and thong style sandals.  That is one problem with online end of season sales, most are non returnable.  Two weeks ago I took advantage of a great sale at  Marmi Shoes, but was lucky and the local store had my size to try on before buying.

Enjoy your new sandals, they look great!  sf

Admittedly I didn't know my size in these two brands but I sized up for width and made the gamble(I'm an 11W and these are 12M).  The combined price for both was less than 1/2 the original price of a single pair. I couldn't resist the temptation.   Fortunately it worked out.

Yes, I do like them. Surprised about the quality though Steve Madden usually makes goot middle quality pumps. Oh, yah I'd definitely wear them.

I feel like a lot of the mid level brands are trending towards poorer quality offerings.  I suspect that it correlates to the increase in "man made" and the decrease in "genuine leather"  shoes that they offer.

  20. Picked these up on sale at DSW while out Christmas shopping this weekend. I love so many of the J Simpson styles but find they usually run very narrow for my wide feet. These are cut low enough to sit below the widest part of the foot so they actually fit nicely.

Hmmmm....  Interesting.  Out of curiosity I took a look at their website (versa shoe.com)....  The home page addresses their convertible shoes - heels to flats - but when you go to the shopping page, they list 7 styles, none mention the convertible heel style, and list minimal information about the shoes.  There is no size selection choice either.  When an item is selected and placed into the "cart" it simply shows the shoe, and still no size selection.

Something ain't right here.  Nice idea I guess, but marketing (or lack of) is everything.

It sez the company is United States based, but I bet it has something to do with red china....

Take a look and see what you think...  Smile....  sf

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a scam. I saw an ad browsing a social media app. On the mobile site the ad took me to they had 7 styles in sizes up to wms 11 available for "preorder" in limited quantities for launch in March next year. It may just be a startup.
