Huge NY Times piece with 279 comments. My apologies if this was already posted.

If the spring fashion shows in Paris this week are any indicator, we haven’t hit the apex, or nadir, of what women might wear on their feet. But history has produced a lot of extreme shoes. Why do women wear them?

I cringed throughout the whole thing imagining a sprained ankle! I love how reckless teenagers are. Still, much respect, because even in those boots, she's better than I ever was in sneakers!

Why do I like them? My tastes run more towards the freestyle, and less toward the fetishy. I'm notorious now for digging shoes considered ugly on this board!

Apparently, Irregular Choice sells at Bloomie's. And, I just discovered a new one, right in Soho on Broadway! (I wonder how long it's been there!) But there was nothing so interesting in their shoe selection tonight.

But I really don't want to buy boots mail-order without trying them on first!

Everytime I come home, I pass this old Irish church. I promise to go into that church every day-- for a certain number of days-- for at least an hour each visit. For every $10 you bid, I will go to the Church for 1 day.

I'm sure you all are aware of Stripper Web, which has threads like this. These gals wear them high and for long hours.

I don't get it. If women take off their shoes, it means their feet hurt in that position. So if they're going to want to put their heels on the floor, and relieve the strain. Walking around on tip toes doesn't make sense. It's easier to have the support of the heels!

Do you guys recognize a fetish fantasy when you see it?

I wish the picture had remained for our discussion, but the only one I remember had just about as much cleavage as I see on a summer's day on the subway.

Driver8, if you wear that pair in public, what kind of reaction have you had from people?

Not too much of a reaction at all. I've worn those with pants and with a long stretch black skirt. I haven't worn them in years though and I'm not sure how they go with the boot-cut jeans I now favor.
