1. Hey there! What's all this Texas bashing? No one gets "sentenced" to a hospital for wearing platform shoes! We are talking about Kingswood, after all, one of the wealthiest communites around Houston. And we're talking about a private psychiatric clinic for behaviorial and addicitive problems...not some federal prison or state run school for reformed high heel wearers. So I suspect that there's more to this story than is being told, and it isn't about what camo boots are being worn in Texas!

 2. I actually own a pair of those lace-up boots, only mine are in black. Couldn't resist the metal toe caps and spike heels. The heels are just at 6", as you guessed. The boots have "blind" lacings, meaning that the seams behind the lacings are sewn closed. But, I opened the seams on my pair so that I could adjust the fit with the lacings. I haven't worn them out over my jeans though, but I have worn them around under jeans. Even though the boots are covered, you can't mistake the sound of the heels. Really fun to wear.

 3. I've never had the surgery, but I inherited bunions from my Mother's family. I can't tell that heels have in any way contributed to my condition. So, I can't see how wearing heels after surgery would have any effect. How was that surgery, if you don't mind me asking? I always thought that it would help me wear pointed toes better. What has been your experience? Bob

 4. Boy, did you bring back some memories! Way back, when I was in high school, I bought my first pair of boots with heels, these being black suede boots with Cuban heels and zippers up the back. I didn't wear them out of the store, but changed into them on the bus ride home, sitting near the back just like you did! Then, I walked home from the bus stop in them! What a thrill that was for me and I can still remember how if felt to wear those first boots. I love you new boots and enjoyed your story. Many thanks for the memories.

 5. I think that Jean Paul is always pushing the envelop and encouraging men to explore different approaches to fashion. I appreciate his use of heels on his male models, including his collection of a couple of years ago where the guys wore leopard print boots with tall black heels. I'm not going to show up at the office tomorrow in a vest and tie sans shirt, but some guys can pull that off, and more power to them!

 6. Super video! I especially love the scene where you are outside walking on the road. And the sounds really add to the whole experience. And, even though you say "easy", I can't believe that I'd handle those spikes so well. Good job.

 7. Onyourtoes, Thanks for the info. I've had a thing for metal heels for years and never found any I could get. I just ordered some boots from Pierre Siebler with metal heels, but they are back ordered, so I don't know when I'll get them. So, I might try eBay, which I've never looked into for footwear. Thanks again.

 8. I had the honor and pleasure of studying bootmaking under one of the most respected bootmakers in the US, and I can tell that Dr. Shoe comes from a very "shoe" focused background. There are significant differences between shoe and boot construction...from the insole, shank construction, heel construction, welting, etc. I think this explains some of the discrepencies between Dr. Shoe's instructions and the experiences of others of us with raising heels and altering shanks.

 9. In response to Dr. Shoe, I don't know where you buy your boots, but stacked leather heels are absolutely what are used on all quality cowboy boots. Anyone who says that they don't exist is totally un-informed. All of my cowboy boots have stacked leather heels, including the boots I've made myself. And my heels go from 3" up to 7" in height, all composed from layers of leather glued and nailed together, and not one has ever "sheared". No self-respecting cowboy would be caught dead in boots with plastic heels. Well, stilettos with plastic heels maybe... Bert, you did a great job with those heels. I suspect that raising the heels without reforming the metal shank in the arch is what gives you that total sensitivity to the height. This is opposed to boots that have been lasted for heels that high, in which the shank is specifically shaped to create a smooth curved transition from the heel to the ball of the foot. Congratulations! You can wear those boots in Texas anytime! And when you come over, bring some boots and we'll add some LEATHER to the heels in my shop. Like Firefox says, just do it!

 10. Thighhighs...really nice collection. I especially like your emphasis on black thigh high boots. With your collection and Bert's, I can tell that I need to get over to Scandinavia more often. What about Norway...that's one country not heard from? I suspect that you guys buy up all the great boots and don't leave any for the Norwegians! [ This Message was edited by: Texboots on 2002-05-04 03:13 ]

 11. Bert: Really awesome boot collection. Every one of them, I'd love to own. Having made several trips to Helsinki...got another one coming up next Wedensday...I am even more impresed with the variety of your boots. You must have been really resourceful to have acquired so many because I've never seen any like them on the streets of your fair city. Each and every one, really great! Thanks for sharing.

 12. My recommendation is to go with black slacks, black mock turtle neck, black-and -white tweed or mini-herringbone sport coat and black boots. Classic yet right-on today! And the boots will look great. All black can look like you are trying too hard...but the jacket, actually any color combined with black (brown-and-black, blue-and-black) will give a lift. And good luck!

 13. Actually "crumpled" jeans...or "stacked" as they are more correctly termed...are the preferred way to wear jeans with cowboy boots in the American West. There's nothing worse than having "high water" jeans with boots, where part of the boot shaft is exposed. The tradition of stacking jeans is so that the boot shaft remains covered when you're riding your horse...not that many of us do that on a daily basis, but it's important to look like we do! I always buy my jeans 4" longer than my dress pants so that they stack just right on top of my boots...with the whole heel exposed.
