  1. I have run frequently in high heels (over 5” sometimes) – not by choice I must say. Sometimes it’s the bus, train etc. although I guess the most frequent for me was some years ago when I had to walk between two factories, so often I would set off and then I would hear the thunder… - a quick sprint was called for. Once I was returning from the fabrication shop and a downpour started – I was going out straight after work, so had 5”+ court shoes on, a thin blouse (Which would have gone see-through if it got wet), and fortunately a fairly flared skirt – so I set off running – over the car-park, right along the road and across into the main reception building – then had to wait for the lads to catch-up. Necessity being the big driver here! Most embarrassing of all – when I got back into the project office – I got a round of applause – it appears when the heard the thunder they all looked out of the window to see us mid car-park – and me sprint away from the others. The tightness of the skirt has the most impact – had I been wearing a tight pencil skirt (the fashion only months before) then I would have got soaked! BB

  2. JeffB you lucky *****! My BF doesn't have as much hair on his legs as me - he was a postman for years, so the hugh amount of walking he had to do (avoiding the supervisor, avoiding posting mail etc.) sort of rubbed the hair off - he says! I guess that's sort of true as the only areas (on his legs) he has a great deal of hair are those which do not get rubbed by trousers. BB

  3. Lindsay Who said I was forgetting :D:lol::lol: HA HA - my evil side is out now!!!:lol: Actually my next-door neighbour is big into bikes – he used to shave his legs, but took to “waxing” – actually not hot wax, as most beauty-parlours have stopped that, and instead use natural techniques like nads, sugaring etc. He said it was bad the first time, but after that no problem – I found it the same. I wonder – having seen the posts in the CD/TV section…… perhaps he doesn’t like cycling and just races as an excuse. ;):D BB

  4. Bit of confusion with caravans.

    There are two types

    1) One that is towed behind a car/4x4...

(Nothing like driving along, caravan behind, wind in your hair and a HUGE queue of traffic behind you!!!)

    2) Static caravan – never towed – usually set up in a holiday camp.

Which was the type we used for our holidays, the park would only be open for the summer, and had entertainment, crèche, etc.

I thought campers & RVs have their own power – in the UK we call these motor-homes, and the really big ones Winnebagos – like the tribe of native Americans – I think it is also a make of RV in the US.

I know you have trailers – is that the same thing – I thought that was associated with permanent homes – “Pretty white trash”

(Sounds insulting to me – I think trash means gash or rubbish in the UK)

  5. Cardiff - but that's like wales! Didn't know they had roads - even the Romans avoided it for the most part! - Sorry but as a puppy I had to spend three weeks in a caravan in abergele every year around my birthday - the Summer holidays. OK North wales I grant you, but the experiance is etched into my brain now! Mum & Dad thought it was great - sat in a caravan, the rain pounding off the roof unable to sleep with the noise, and of course when it got warm, the caravan is like an oven, no fridge (well unless you call that pot thing you added water to the top which kept stuff inside about 1 deg cooler than outside a fridge), - only allowed to buy one ice cream a day from the shop - which run out after two days of sun - after all by then it was a heat wave and there was a water shortage. Worst of all when I was a little puppy, it appears I liked a Rabbit ride - with the song "Run Rabbit run" - by the time I was a teanager my parents still reminded me of that.... Arghhhh!! Croeso i Gymru BB

  6. Yea, I agree with the wax thing. Years ago I waxed quite often, right through to the bikini line (and a bit further – small bikini!) That was OK, however now I just can’t stand it anymore – don’t know why. That’s why I use nads - it’s applied cold and is a lot gentler than wax, or even the cold wax strips. OK the hairs are still ripped out of the skin – but where’s your sense of adventure?? Go on – try it, it is so much better – six weeks or more of not having to shave. BB

  7. Thanks, I will try to get some photos - feel a bit silly about that - don't ask me why. I closed the hooks on a previous pair of boots & it was OK (Knelt down in them & closed in error but found out it was better!). I will see how it goes. One thing, I have not used anything in the boots, but some people reccomend cotton wool - how do you use it, does it help? I guess it just goes in the toe part of the boot - but are there any tricks to using it? BB

  8. I think most of the ready meals type stuff (What's a Hot Pocket by the way) actually make you more hungry. Most of the fast food places & ready meals - I am sure have something in them that makes you addicted, and feel like you want more than you need. I know kids are kids, but I guess the best time to learn to eat sensibily is when you are younger - so perhaps a good time to show them the way? Good luck (BTW I tend to manage a lot of software programmes - what language etc. do you do/use - we have just moved to .net C# - so all the programmes are running late - now we have moved to a better language!!) BB

  9. Why o why do shopping centres and city centres think it is a good idea to pedestrianise the area with stupid little brick-sized paving – with nice gaps between!! Today I had to go to a meeting in Glasgow, nearest car park is in Cambridge st, so a quick walk in the rain through the centre is called for – now normally I can rely on my “stiletto sense” to avoid the gaps --- but not today! Arghh!:D So following the meeting, I had to have my heels repaired! - £7.50 for new tips!! – Funny how there is always a “While-U-Wait” shoe bar in city centres where the paved area is! ;) Whilst I sat there bored watching the cobbler stretching the job out – so it looks like £7.50 worth of repair, I got to think about maths & probability. :o Paver ~ 3 3/4” wide, gap ¼” wide, but the last ¼” of the paver is sloped, so chances of hitting the gap = ¾”, in a space of 4” That’s over a chance of 1 in 5 of hitting a gap with your heel in each step!!!! What idiot thought that would be a good pavement surface for shopping areas?:lol: Especially as most shoppers are female – and we tend as a species to like & wear shoes! :D BB

  11. Talking about ballet boots – mine arrived Friday! Yippee!!!!!!!!!!! I got knee boots, style 2020 from the Devious range. These are laced at the front, but also have a side zip. Tried them over the weekend – and they are a bit high!!! I can stand in them OK – unaided, and have managed to walk a bit – only by holding onto the walls! Guess more practice is needed. BF is very impressed with then, and somewhat attentive! Let’s just think of my next line “If you wash the car, I will put my ballet boots on..” Fogane I have found the combination of zip and hooks/lacing to be really good (over one weekend admittedly) – you adjust the tightness with the lace, but the zip’s really convenient for quick removal when the next-door neighbour calls round (Sunday afternoon!!!) No problem at all with the left boot, but the lacing on the right one did slip off the hook once or twice – but I slipped the lace back-on before zipping up – still easier than fully lacing as you don’t need to even undo the knot. BB

  12. Standard ones are dificult enough!

Talking about ballet boots – mine arrived Friday!

    Yippee!!!!!!!!!!!

So talking about shops – I found Banana shoes http://www.bananashoes.com) in the past to be OK, and they sell the Devious range (made in China), so taking the knee length boot 2020 ~ £182 in leather.

However Xtreme http://www.xtremefootwear.co.ukdo the same range, in their range the knee length boot style 2020 is £159

    Plus P+P of course

    – Xtreme do keep a lot of stock in, the 2020 in patent for example was in stock (£130) but I wanted the leather style – so had to wait about 10 days.

(Mike Bird at Xtreme is also very helpful)

  13. I lost quite a bit of weight last year, going out for a special do – I decided to wear an older favourite dress (Leather – so not much give) – no chance! Zip wouldn’t even start never mind zip up to the top! That was my kick up the bum to do something, it made me look in my wardrobe and realise I had gone up two sizes! Over time I had gone for bigger clothing, but never really thought about it. I could not stick to either routine exercise, or these impossible diets. The way we lost weight was quite simple – we just changed our lifestyle. Prior to this we would both come home, check email, post, sort this and that out, so in no time it was very late, just time for a ready made meal before bed. Next morning we were still too full from the late meal, so skipped it, but in the late morning found we were both starving, so ended up with a big lunch, and again the cycle begins, check email, post……. We changed our routines, Cereal, or fresh fruit for breakfast – not really hungry by lunch, so a yoghurt and banana or apple, then once we got home – we made a meal – not a “Quick meal” but a simple one made with fresh ingredients – especially more fish, chicken etc. For us this was simple to do, and not only did we both loose weight, we also felt better, removing all ready-made meals, cutting down on bread, and almost no take-away food we felt heather, had more energy and could actually do more at night than previously, we appear to have more time with Meal, check email, post… than check email, post… Meal. I got back to my normal weight (58-60kg) – about 130lb -it fluctuates day to day of course, and with no effort can keep it there. Once one starts feeling healthy – it’s nice to go for a walk, do the exercise that was too much effort and time-consuming before. My mum told me years ago “If you loose weight quickly – with great effort, then you will put it on just as quick when the effort stops” Wish I listened to her – instead I tried useless diet after impossible diet for ages! quite simply If you get hungry - you eat too much. Eat what you need and no more. Forget "best value".---- A 250ml drink is big enough - don't get 330ml or 500ml for only an extra 10p (cent?) - you are paying them to make you ill! So good luck if you are trying to loose weight & do what works for you and most importantly – find a method which you can stick to. BB

  14. I think shaving is completely wrong!

Should wax, - or better sill use Nads (www.nads.co.uk)

    http://shop.naturalalternativediscoveries.co.uk/category20068.html

Lasts much longer – grows finer – without that sharp cut edge shaving produces.

On a serious note I think Abby’s advice is good – unusual today as I think many people who write this type of column tend to “be Traditional” – i.e. bigoted and self-involved.

  15. Did favour the Capri. It was the 2.8i +++ which put an end to that It was stolen too many times – I was at a BF’s flat – and the car alarm went off, - saw it driving off down the street – the police chased it around Manchester (Joy riders stole high performance cars & raced each other around the motorway) – this time the police found my car in a race with a Porsche, chased it at up to 150 MPH. The police wouldn’t go faster than that – so they lost the two cars, but when the cars came off the motorway – around a sharp 360 deg bend, my car went around OK – but the Porsche didn’t – Two joy riders killed – what a pity – never mind! After getting it fixed (that was something like the 4th time it was stolen) we went for a nice meal, and when we came out from the restaurant – there was the car – Gone!! All I got back was a shell – it took ages for the payout from the insurance company – hence why I ended up with the Panda – all I could afford. The whole thing put me off high performance cars – expensive, big insurance – I could deal with – but not knowing that the car would be there when you came out – that was the final straw. BTW the Kid who stole my car in the chase was 14 years old! BB

  16. Yea, never really been able to understand the US terms I think Pantyhose = Tights (although I have also seen it used for stockings and other hosiery) Garter belt = Suspender belt (Suzzy belt) (around the waist thing) ?????????? = Garters/garter belt? (Men use to hold socks up - looks silly if you ask me) ?????????? = Garters (An elasticated frilly band around the leg - holds stockings up) Suspender belt = Braces (shoulder straps to holt trousers up) Is this correct??? The Suzzy belt thing was really funny a couple of years ago, we had a colleague from the US visiting, he overheard some of the girls in the office talking about Suzzy belts, and joined in - mentioning that he had quite a collection, lots of colours and styles, which he likes to wear for work - and offered to wear a nice patterned pair the following day - result some really schoolgirl giggling for the rest of the day, until the following day when he and they found the Suspender belt = Braces, & Garter belt = Suspender belt! BB

  17. almost exclusivly stockings & suspenders. Sometimes hold-ups, but not often. and pop-socks with trousers. I have a wide selection of suzzy belts - they are the key to being comfortable all day, good metal clips, wider (1/2") elastic and a broad waistband shapped to fit. The worst are the thin waistbans, with plastic clips, and 1/4" elastic - after 10 mins they dig in, the plastic clip breaks, and the adjusting straps slide down - as does the waist! BTW allways wear the suzzy belt under the pants - the toilet thing is much easier! BB
