  1. I like wedges! They can be very discrete like in a sneaker, or boots. Personally I think men can get away wearing wedges than any other heel stile with the exception of a cowboy riding heel. Have a few sneakers, one pair of 9 West ankle boots and a pair of pumps but have not worn those out. My wife likes the 9W boots, as they make your feet look small. The sneakers I wear more often than other heels even the cowboy boots as the one I have are more for dressed up.

  2. It seems to me that the Scouts have failed to adapt to a modern society where modern survival skills could be taught. They have even failed to adapt to modern beliefs and values. Worse from what I've read on this thread, your children have been enslaved to modern business practices that has questionable ethics with their fundraising. Heck I don't even buy Girl Scout cookies anymore! The contents yell out you get little for what you pay for! These organizations and businesses involved in these cookies make a big profit! My two cent on a basic need for prepping Modern society is very frail, food supplies in city stores including modern suburbia have a three day supply. We can lose power and clean water to earthquakes, tidal waves, and even an extremely rare EMP burst from whatever source. The best recent example of all, an asteroid that exploded over a Russian town. That explosion was equivalent of a typical modern nuclear warhead. If that asteroid exploded closer to the ground the whole city could have been wiped out. The question is, after you survived a disaster what do you do next? Prepping for a disruption, not an end of world scenario, a disruption is not a bad idea. Disruptions like the hurricanes in New York City and New Orleans, or fast-moving fires out West, even a devastating earthquake. It's part of an answer to what do you do next. Because in a modern society it's going to be a devastating shock to your system. You should ask those who have survived such an incident. Asked them if they were prepared and if they were not ask them if they wished they were. The scenarios above is something that a Government can handle. Even at multiple areas at once. However when the government takes control of a devastated area it's not Candy land. If you watched on TV the encampments is not a place to be happy and to live. It's a place to survive and unless you have a way to get out of the area, you're to be stuck there for quite some time. If you had some kind of prepping you would be able to stay at your home, that's if it is livable or move out to some where safe. Tell me, which of the two sounds better?

  3. Over time I believe Microsoft will get their operating system squared away to our liking, but the traditionalists may have to suck it up. Things are never going to be the same; Microsoft is finally evolving with the rest of the market. The home PC market is not where it's at and they cannot afford an inefficient OS any more. Let alone an incompatible OS for portable, personal computing like smart phones. As for early adoption, I do not recommend it, wait till next year. For example smart phones should be called computers; they are powerful enough to run a netbook/laptop, even the more powerful laptops. I wish Motorola followed with their Droid netbook dock. Maybe they have something better coming. I don't see the point carrying a smart phone and a lap top around, do You? I see a portable large screen with extra battery to extend run between charges, the screen could even roll up like a window shade into a box. Smart phones, netbooks, laptops, and tablets, will be all integrated into one very soon. Does W8 run faster? I would say it runs more efficient not faster, if you are going to use W8 on a tablet it needs to run efficiently. Now does it work well for the old fashioned PC? It does make it run much more efficient, I bought a AMD 4 core processer HP two years ago and I started with Windows 7. Now it runs even better with Windows 8. In my computer is an Athlon two, those who know about computers it is a much older processor, it is not the Phenom processor. But I determine today with computer processing power is not about the best core is about how many you have. As for the virtual ergonomics it could be better but I have developed new strategies in using it more efficiently. I am beginning to like W8 more over time. One option I like is that Windows 8 uses a recovery option called Refresh. This where the OS is restored to it’s original programing, without wiping out your docs. I had acquired some kind virus/malware recently that my security program did not catch and System Restore did not fix the problem. You have to reinstall none OS programs after "refreshing". If you are not familiar with W8 you have to use the Refresh option off the disk. But does this sound similar to Apple's OS? Compared to all other Windows OS W8 It's different. I am quite sure with MS being late in the tablet market; the bottom of the patent barrel was used. But now you have the Cloud or for Microsoft the Sky, this is where Microsoft 360 comes to play. You don't even need buy the software; you just rent it on the Cloud. A complex operating system like W8 is going to be no longer a mandatory requirement at home. It will be at the server farm with all the processing power you will ever need. That is if you trust such a system.

  4. Believe what you want to believe, Hoverfly. Myself, I no longer rely on the commercial food chain as you know it. Once you stop trying to feed people with money and teach them how to provide for themselves it's a great life. I know, I'm living it. I work 12 to 20 hours a week and it provides for all my needs and more, so please don't generalize.

Perhaps you should look at some facts here.

    http://www.icis.com/...garcane-vs.html

This data would seem to disagree with you and at the very least what you quoted was outdated. It was the second hit for the search criteria of "prices corn versus sugar cane" the first was a pdf.

You still may yet prove me wrong, but your not off to a good start, but don't worry my intent is without malice. Who knows this might be a great exercise in data acquisition for the both of us. I have personally met several poor people that can't afford food, but they can afford that new 42 inch plasma television.

PM me if you want to talk, it's time to get this topic back on track.

I will personally start a thread telling the membership I was wrong if that is the case based on information available to all of us.

Data is form 2010, it's out of date.
  5. Start eating corn instead of burning it dude.

Pigs went to the slaughter house early in the last few months, ham was cheap but beef is all ready 7 dollars a pound around where I live. Most of the corn grown in the U.S. goes to feed and human consumption. What corn that does go into fuel is not that a huge amount in the over all picture. It's mainly cheaper imported sugar cane ethanol from South America is what we burn in our cars.
  6. Prove it, no ones done it yet. It's not just you. When we start culling the population on something that has no scientific basis, it merely becomes the slaughter of the innocent. Remember the one they choose to kill may be you.

In many third world countries around the world (not just one or two) when ever did we hear in our life time until 2009, that there were food riots do to volatile oil price increases in transportation costs? Hopefully it won't happen again, but with the current drought in the central U.S. Price increases of 3 to 4 percent each year for the next few years will have a devastating effect on the poor. Laws of economics, supply and demand. Supply is short, demand is high, prices are high people go hungry, they riot and take what you have. It's not a culling, it's survival of the fittest. Look up Easter Islandand sustainability. The current state of the planet is not sustainable.
  7. Call me old fashioned, but no. I'm not against it per say, but when it comes down to survival one reproducing female is worth many reproducing males. Some events in history the number of reproducing females was the key to survival.

Right now the world is over populated, don't get me wrong I am for women equality. But at this time do we need them to be baby production factories? Ahhh.... no. Until then if they want to fight on the ground or in the air, go for it!
  8. As soon as the Newtown shooting happened I bought 14 Glock 22 High cap mags w/22 rounds each. After making more room on my credit card to buy some more Glock 15 round mags a week later everyone was wiped out! Any way I am selling 5 of them to pay for keeping nine and I increased the price 2.5 times higher than the original price. Let’s put it this way, people are going to making lots of money after the ban and everyone will still have high cap mags, you just have to pay more.

Does anyone want a Glock .40 high cap mag? Sell it at a discount if you mention that you are a heeler. :)

Megan: I suspect most people did not expect the govt to turn on them till the media figured out it was more profitable to polarize issues to such an extent that we are at now.

Sidebar: When people in the USA commit suicide at a national landmark the media keeps it -very- quiet to keep people from being copycats. Yet when there are mass shootings the media is all over it, giving the shooter all sorts of publicity they would never have. Yet, the media is not willing to accept any blame as they claim it is just simple journalism.

    er.. no.

If you pay careful attention to the media you can see how unreal they are. You can't take them serously any more, you have to go out of the way to weed out the truth.
  9. No, he wasnt. He was saying he was in his own car and someone came up to break out its windows..

    If you him will

Laws in most states say if your record the cops, you have committed a crime. People have been prosecuted for such. It falls under certain wire-tapping statutes.

Wiretap laws have been outdated for the last 20 years, there are thousands of cameras watching you every day. Bank cameras, security cameras in tunnels, intersections, highways, public areas etc. etc. When there is police activity it's generally conducted out in the public domain, therefore people are free to video record anything and everything in public. Just like when someone is taking a photo of you in public, it is only when it comes to the press or someone publishing you and your name, they must ask permission to do so.
  10. Nope, not when working in downtown Miami when I've nearly run people over to get away from someone trying to bust in a window. Can't imagine having a gun on myself in that situation again.

I believe that you are referring to Rodney King? Lets face it, police brutality was an issue that needed to be addressed long before you needed to drive over people. Now that everybody has an iPhone or Android it is not that easy for police to get away with thug tactics. As we saw two years ago, innocent people using iPhone and Android's recording police activities were being arrested. The General Attorney for the state of New Hampshire had to set down a mandate for the police to follow, let the people record, it is their right. However if the military gets involved than the crud has hit the fan.

  11. I don't see a problem with your guns, other than I thought it was illegal to own a machine gun, or is it older model, something historical?

It has never been illegal to own a fully automatic gun. However back when the Tommy machine gun was introduced in the 1920s, it was determined that there is no place for use in ranchers hands as it was a being marketed to. Therefore a heavy tax was placed on for ownership of such a weapon. Thus avoiding the issue of violating the Second Amendment. Today if you wished own a fully automatic weapon you must obtain a Class III license. This allows you to handle explosives, fully automated weapons, and heavy armaments, but this also comes at a heavy price.

The reason why American Constitution was built way it is today was the fact that some rich people determined that they do not like being pushed around, and taxed by big government (a.k.a. England). The Second Amendment in reality is to ensure the balance of power should all else has failed, from both foreign and domestic threats. Call it the oldest M.A.D.D. (Mutually Assured Deterrence and Destruction) directive.

Many people in other countries who believe they are free or free from government tyranny, in reality does not have any kind of protection whatsoever from such action occurring. If you believe a non-violent uprising against a government can happen in your country, think again this does not happen, if not is a very rarity. Development of nonlethal weapons involving energy technologies is a reality today. Microwave energy technologies make your innards feel like you are on fire, and make you run away. The Internet makes it so easy to isolate everybody from one another in just a flip of a switch. This has already happened in many countries and is set up in many other countries to isolate people from communications.

Ilikekicks: my problem with Jones was how he blamed nearly everything on a conspiracy of one kind or another.

The Supreme Court has already ruled that it is not a violation of the second ammendment that the government has a right to restrict some arms, which leaves the question of which 'some' arms is legal.

We were in Las Vegas over Xmas and went to an indoor range and had the chance to fire some automatic weapons. It was extremely fun, but as a new gun owner, do weapons like that need to be in the hands of the public?

Then there's the other side of me that says if the person is a law abiding citizen and wants to own one for the historical value or simply wants to have some fun and shoot up some tin cans, as long as they're being safe and not harming anyone, who am I to say they can't?

Then there's horrific scenes like Sandy Hook and something has to be done to prevent that from ever happening again.

I was watching coverage of the Aurora, CO suspect. He bought 6000 rounds of amuninition in a few weeks, 2 handguns, body armour, and an AR-15.

I don't envy government officials, but something has to be done.

Since Gabby Giffords was shot in Tuscon 2 years ago, there have been 11 mass shooting in this country.

That is why my husband insisted that we learn to shoot so we could defend ourselves. But it scares me that I live in a country where it's becoming necessary to do that.

Do we turn our schools and public areas into armed camps because we don't want to restrict some forms of firearms?

One person told me that if I was that worried about it, I should get a bullet proof vest. It seems idiotic to me that I would need to buy a vest because the government can't keep firearms out of the hands of those who would cause us harm.

I understand that people who buy their firearms legally only commit a fraction of the gun violence but I'm open to hear what those who are opposed propose.

Unless they believe that that's the price we pay for having easy access to guns.

First, It has not become necessary to arm or defend yourself, it has become necessary to deal with the issues of mental health and social economic conditions. Back in the 1980 the Supreme Court determined the way that mentally ill people were being detained was unconstitutional, and I personally agree. So Pres. Ronald Reagan issued an order to release all people of mental illness from the facilities. However no alternatives in dealing with the mentally ill were brought up and it has been this way ever since.

Second, increase in any kind of gun violence is obviously indicating a deterioration of social economic condition of this country. For example things were pretty bad in the 1980s, due to just as bad of an economic crisis. This is what brought on gang related cocainecrack drug wars. As the economy got better in the 90s into the early 2000's gun crime actually declined, along with a lock them up and throw away the key mentality in our judicial system. This also included those who are mentally ill who committed crimes. Lnfortunately since 2008 gun related crime is once again on the increase and our prisons are packed full. So what does this tell you? If you think about it, if there are large amount of gun violence anywhere on this planet, what has happened is that the social and economic environment has become to fail or has disintegrated.
