SarahLou Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 Just a quick question about shoe sizing really...on almost every shoe website I go on, theres always a little note on it saying 'sizing runs small, please order a size bigger than usual'... has anyone found this to be untrue? Im a size UK6.5 in non high heeled shoes, and the first time I bought heels where this message was displayed, I bought them in a size 7, and they were way too big. Then I tried a size 6, and they were ok for a few days of wear, but then got too big with wear, so they were falling off the back of my feet (unwearable of course)...So I bought a size 5, and they were very tight the first few times I put them on, and quite uncomfortable, but after I wore them a few times they loosened up and were quite a good fit. This is the case with most of my shoes! Just wondering if anyone has a similar experience? Or if some people folow the advice on the website, and it works out for them?
ScoobyHH Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 I think this maybe a way for the sites to reduce the number of returns.I would imagine a lot of the higher heels that are sold are not used for daily wear, but for special occasions or in the house by people that only wear then occasionally. If they feel too small they will be returned but if they are a little too big they are still useable around the house or for short trips (especially if they have straps). To sum up,I think there is less chance of a larger shoe being returned. Another reason maybe related to what you mentioned, the fact that court shoes that feel tight when you first put them on become loose when your feet have been in them for a while (I this because the blood is squeezed out of your toes I wonder?).My point being that few people will realise that the very tight shoes they have just got out of the box are actually the correct size and so send them back in error. ScoobyHH Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Just thought I'd add that I've had the same problem. The first pair of heels I bought were one size larger and they were miles too big.I got the next pair in my normal size and they were too tight(but they don't slip off LOL).In fact I think I only get the correct size about half the time. Sarahlou have you got narrow feet by any chance?, because they would be looser than somebody else with wider feet even if the length was the same, due to the pointy toe! ScoobyHH
HappyFeat Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Actually, I have found that sizes often depend on brands. This is true for clothing as well as shoes. It has also been my experience that higher end brands run a bit larger ha lover end brands. But that is just an obeservation not a guarentee. I know Steve Madden shoes run larger and even a bit wider in the same size than let's say a Bandolino. Ususally what I do is figure what size works best for me in each brand and just go with that as my indicator. Also, I try not to buy shoes online unless I have bought the exact same brand in person. Style is built from the ground up!
SarahLou Posted November 6, 2007 Author Posted November 6, 2007 Im not sure if I have narrow feet..maybe I do! never had a problem with the width of shoes anyway. I cant believe how big some shoes are in my regular size! and then when I try and return them for a smaller size, they are ALWAYS out of stock
