xaphod Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 A couple of people have said to me that they haven't heard a cuckoo this year. Neither had I until yesterday. It has been suggested that migratory birds are having greater problems crossing the Sahara which is getting wider due to Global Warming. Anyhow, hearing a cuckoo very close by, especially this late in the year surprised me. I looked out into the garden to see a pair of blackbirds fussing around a large bird right at the top of a leylandii tree at the far end of the garden. "It can't be," thought I, but I fished out the binoculars and, blow me down, it was a cuckoo. The blackbirds, obviously the erstwhile surrogate parents, rapidly lost interest in their offspring when it continued to make definitely non-blackbird noises over the next 20 minutes. .... made my day (hang on, I've said this somewhere else recently ! ) Xa
