heidi.bier Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 For all your shoes in your collection, what kind of shoe takes the most time to remove? How many seconds does it take you to remove them? Because those shoes take so long to remove, do you tend to wear them less?
karen Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 It's either the strappy shoes or boots. Both take time, but I believe for me, it's the straps that tend to take the most time. At least with boots, you just slide in, kind of readjust the panythose you're wearing, and zip up. With straps, depends on how many you have to adjust, haha. Alexa Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 I‘ve got some boots with laces that take a while to get off and on, because they have no zips and I’m forced to re-thread the laces every time. I tend not to wear them in to work, because I like to be able to slip things on and off quickly, but if I’m going out socialising or to a party in the evening I’ll put them on because I know I’m going to be wearing them for several hours and it makes the extra time with the laces worthwhile. Alexa
karen Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 My boots don't have laces on them, but one have buckles. It's a simple adjustment and doesn't come off since it's part of the boot itself and speeds things up. I strap down the calves portion to help keep my legs warm in the winter. The feet portion stays pretty warm regardless if I use the buckles or not. Remember, Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, but she did it backwards and in high heels. -- Faith Whittlesey

When I come home from work and I change from my high heel boots to my comfy flat boots, I might have to adjust my pantyhose & socks when I take off my boots. You said you need to re-adjust your pantyhose when you put your boots on? Do your pantyhose bunch up when you put them on? Alexa I am surprised Alexa, I would have thought you would like slides for when you go socializing so you can simply slide them off when you are sitting down and slide them back on when you get up. I never knew you were a lace up boots person. I find riding boots really comfortable when on but because they are slide on, they take a long long time to get off for me.
thehighheelsgirl Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Strappy heels can take a bit, but I have a few pair of lace up boots, and they take forever, especially the thigh high ones. Yes, I do walk in these
karen Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Yeah, I have to adjust the panythose that I wear when I put on my boots. WHen I put my foot in there, it slides up a little and the whole thing needs to be readjusted, lol. Speaking of thigh highs, that's one pair of boots I have yet to wear. I'll bet it gets hot inside even more right? As compared to knee highs. Remember, Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, but she did it backwards and in high heels. -- Faith Whittlesey
Alexa Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 I’ve got at least two pairs of boots that have laces which need undoing all the way down to get my feet into them. There’s one thigh length pair and another knee length one. It definitely adds to my getting-ready time. Yes, thigh boots do keep you warmer, but that can be an advantage for evenings out in the winter in these parts. My usual everyday outfit is a long Goth girl skirt (I’m particularly fond of some of these http://www.daregothic.co.uk/Skirts%20shop/skirts1.php) and a little top with narrow shoulder straps, in a sort of tank or bustier style, so with my skirt swishing about and bare arms, my body has lots of opportunity to keep cool. Of course, if I get cold I put jackets on, or long sleeved tops, but I can always peel these off if I get too hot. No, I’ve never liked slides or mules much, with all due respect to the people here who favour them! As far as I’m concerned, part of the pleasure of shoes is the way they change the shape of your body. When I was a little girl I remember seeing ladies wearing pumps (or courts as they were called in this country) and thinking they were so sophisticated. I like the way I can be barefoot one moment, looking all Bohemian in funky nail varnish and toe rings, and then put my shoes on and all of a sudden my posture changes and my feet are all sleek and sexy, with killer heels. I’d never get that feeling with my toes sticking out of the end of something! Yes, I like riding boots too, but I haven't got any at the moment. So much footwear, so little time . . . Alexa

Alexa You have an interesting style Alexa! Layering was all the rage in fashion in both last year as well as this year and to go with bare arms when you want to be cooler and have a jacket to throw on over top of that allows you to be ready for any type of climate. Especially if it is hot outside and then once you step inside, the air conditioner makes the climate frigid. Since your long over the knee boots require a lot of lacing to be done, how often do you wear them? Do guys have any patience for the laces? Speaking of thigh highs, that's one pair of boots I have yet to wear. I'll bet it gets hot inside even more right? As compared to knee highs. I am just like you Karen, I do not have any boots that are higher then my knee. I think some of the non-fetish looking over the knee boots look great but I am too shy to try something so bold and daring. Given the fact you like shoes you can slide off in seconds, I take it over the knees is not for you either, right Karen?
Alexa Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 The three long term live-in boyfriends I’ve had over the years just got used to me taking ages to get ready. By the time I’ve had a shower, done makeup and styled my hair, another 15 minutes doing up bootlaces doesn’t actually make that much difference. If it’s someone I’m dating casually, or just general socialising, I don’t suppose anybody notices, provided I’m punctual! I suppose I‘ve done ‘layering’ most of my life; since I started choosing my own clothes at any rate. So I’ve done it whether it’s in or out of fashion. Once again Heidi, I feel like saying go on be a devil. You say you wear long skirts anyway, so most of the time people won’t even be able to see how far up your boots go. Give yourself a little treat and find some over the knee boots you really like and buy them. You know you want to. I’ve been to work in thigh boots under a long skirt and people don’t know. A friend at work asked me about my boots once and I showed her, and she was quite surprised how far up they went. ‘Oh, you’ve got kinky boots on!’ she exclaimed. They were a Pleaser brand pair with an openwork front that looked a bit like the currently fashionable sandal boots or gladiator sandals as far as the foot and calf were concerned. So I’m sure you’ll get away with it. Alexa
heidi.bier Posted June 15, 2010 Author Posted June 15, 2010 I see you are daring when it comes to fashion Alexa. Have you ever surprised your dates by wearing longer skirts and had them gradually realize that what they thought were gladiator sandals on you actually turned out to have a shaft that went up and over your knees? My skirt collection is huge and I have skirts that range from mini to ankle length skirts. I typically wear the knee length or longer ones to work to look professional but I do wear the shorter ones when I go out to play. I suppose I can wear the gladiator sandal type thigh highs to work and hide the tops under a very long skirt ...... I know I would be very self conscious and would go through great trouble trying to hide the tops though. When you sit down, doesn't the tops of your the boot sandals crease your skirt in such a way that others suspect that it isn't just your thighs under the skirt?
Alexa Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Dates, as in people I’m romantically involved with, tend to know what I’m like anyway, so over the knee boots wouldn’t come as a surprise to them. My current boyfriend and I don’t live together, which suits me fine, but we see each other regularly and I think he’s seen most of my boots and shoes over the eighteen months we’ve been involved. However, I have surprised more casual acquaintances with thigh boots under my skirt. It doesn’t feel daring, because it’s just what I’m used to. Many of my skirts are quite full, so you don’t get an outline of the tops of my boots showing through the fabric. With a more close fitting skirt, especially one made out of stretchy fabric, I’d stick to knee length boots that wouldn’t interrupt the smooth line of the material around my hips and thighs. Alexa
heidi.bier Posted June 16, 2010 Author Posted June 16, 2010 On this thread of shoes that are hard to remove, today I am wearing a new pair of boots that have two short zippers at 45 degree angles, one near the top of the shaft, another closer to the ankle. Both zippers have flaps that hide them. It has two buckles as well that needs to be undone before the boot can come off. I think if I wear this pair of boots on a date, the guy won't be able to get them off hahaha
Alexa Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 Yes, that should keep you safely zipped in. It'll take them ages to work that out! Alexa
heidi.bier Posted June 17, 2010 Author Posted June 17, 2010 Has anyone here had a pair of shoes or boots their dates wanted to take off but were totally baffled as to how to remove them?
thehighheelsgirl Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Yup. A while ago, when I was between boyfriends, I wore my lace up thigh boots on a date, later at his place, he wanted to take them off, and took a look at the laces and lack of zippers and was like "eff that" LOL. He didn't seem to mind that I kept them on the rest of the night either Yes, I do walk in these
Alexa Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Once upon a time in my student days I had some (very cheap) boots in a kind of glossy PVC material with zips on them. On returning with my boyfriend to his flat, he tried to remove them and succeeded in jamming both the zippers. The serrated edges of the zips had got out of alignment and the sliders could not be moved up or down. Fortunately I wasn't wearing tights, so we could get the rest of my clothes off, but I was aware that I hadn't got any other footwear to put on if If I tore them or cut them so I wore my boots all night. My boyfriend's flatmates were surprised to see me going to the bathroom in the morning with a dressing gown and high heeled patent boots on. I think their opinion of him rose quite considerably as a result of that. Whilst my wearing them seemed to enhance my partner's ardour, the boots themselves became distinctly damp and clammy over the course of the night, so it was a relief to get home and get them off. I cut very carefully along the fabric of the zip, so as not to damage the boot itself. I intended to take them to a cobbler and get new zips put in, but as they'd only cost me around £30 to begin with I never got around to it and threw them away at the end of the academic year as it didn't seem worth taking them home. Alexa Alexa, you wild thing!!! You really have lots of adventures don't you? You have the inflatable bouncy castle adventures, the drinking wine out of your heel adventures and now this adventure where you get your date's pulse rate up to 150 for the entire night. Perhaps I should purposely keep my boots on with my date after hearing about your adventures and see how they react Did you wear socks on under those boots? I know with a lot of knee high boots, if the zipper is halfway down, if one tugs and gently prods, my boots can be slid off over slippery nylons. If you have socks, the socks might come off with the boots. Perhaps the guy didn't want to try that hard to take them off as he preferred you with them on. Perhaps he liked the image of you wearing them with your nightie when you two had your fun?
Alexa Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 No, we wrestled with the zips for a while before giving up. That’s probably how they got so badly jammed. Once again, don’t forget that you’re reading 20 years of high heel wearing anecdotes compressed into a few posts, so it’s not as if I lead an action packed life. Those particular boots were quite narrow at the ankle, so needed to be unzipped all the way down. I wouldn’t have had socks on, because at that point in my life I didn’t own any. I’d left them all behind in a drawer in my bedroom at my parents’ house when I left for college, because I knew I wouldn’t be needing them. I hadn’t worn most of them for a while, because I thought they were quite babyish, and I wanted to be my own woman. Probably a difficult existence for you to imagine Heidi, but I was a sockless student. Quelle horreur! A bit later, with the same boyfriend in fact, I was intending to do some hill walking in the mountains near where we had been to college, and there I was at the ripe old age of 22 buying socks for the first time. I wasn’t even sure how to go about it, or where to look. I got some nice thick woolly ones (I’m sure you’d approve!) from a camping shop to wear with a pair of army surplus boots, which has been my preferred walking attire ever since. Well laced up army boots are difficult for partners to get off too, come to think of it. Alexa

Anne_Louise Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 This is one of my rare visits to HH Place! I always drive in bare feet but most of my summer sandals have ankle straps. It's such a nuisance, especially if I'm in a hurry, having to unbuckle or refasten the straps - but the shoes are gorgeous and it's usually worth it! I do have quite a few short trips sometimes between calls and then I might risk driving in heels to save the bother of taking my sandals on and off. Like you, Heidi, I love the idea of wearing really long boots but never really had the courage. Quite why I don't know, as 51/2" or even 5" heels aren't exactly mainstream and I have no problem with those - but then I'm an addict! I think the current fashion of knee-high or shorter, chunky boots worn with a mini skirt or hotpants faintly ridiculous, the proportions are all wrong. When I wore ultra-short skirts on a more or less daily basis I always hoped to be brave enough to wear some boots which almost met the hem of my skirt, but I never quite managed to afford some. Whether I'm too old now to go back to those skirt lengths (I've kept quite a few of them just in case!) is debatable. My gorgeous Hubby (female, I'm lesbian) loves me to show quite a lot of leg though we both agree that for work it could seem a little inappropriate at my age. For going out though I might well not be able to resist the temptation to display a bit of thigh again one day, and now that I've discovered Ebay I could yet afford a pair of really daring and glamorous boots to complete the look.
heidi.bier Posted June 20, 2010 Author Posted June 20, 2010 Alexa, that is a pretty big change, going from not even owning a pair of socks to wearing the thick woolly socks inside your lace up boots! Do you wear the thick woolly socks when you are wearing your tall platform boots with 5 inch heels too for padding? Although it may shock you, I have gone without hosiery or socks when wearing heels as well. It is just that if the heel is anything two inches or higher, no padding becomes uncomfortable. A lot of shoe makers have very minimal padding. Also, the chafing bothers me so I end up tired and uncomfortable in my heels. The more padding I have, the longer I can go on wearing heels it seems. With my current combination of fur lined boots with pantyhose and thick woolly socks, I can wear my three inch heels all day, everyday it seems. Regarding socks though, there are times when my socks did not match my outfit, be it a business outfit, a semi-formal outfit, a party dress, etc so I never would allow my date to take off my high heel boots. Think of me wearing a little black scoop neck, open back dress with suntan pantyhose and my black knee high dress boots. If my date removes my boots, my appearance of having flawless bare legs with a great tan will be gone as it will become obvious I am wearing suntan pantyhose. Also my thick wool sock won't match the dress either. Do you have that problem as well of your socks not matching your outfit so you don't let guys take off your heels Alexa? Interesting, for Anna Louise, your strappy sandals are the ones that are the hardest to remove. Have you considered switching to slide sandals just so you can kick them off whenever you have the whim? ...... I used to think that lace up or pull on boots took the most time to remove, now I am beginning to think strappy sandals could be the most troublesome.
Alexa Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Generally speaking, there’s only three pairs of boots I wear socks with in my wardrobe, namely my army boots, a pair of motorbike boots and a pair of New Rock boots with straps all over them, which are a little too large otherwise. Many of the other boots and shoes have never even been worn with hosiery or socks. I tend to buy so they’re a reasonably snug fit on my bare feet, because I find that allowing my feet to move around too much inside shoes is what leads to sore spots and blisters. Since having a car, I’ve very rarely had sore feet, as I don’t have to walk in my fancy shoes more than a few hundred yards at a time. I do enjoy walking though, but that’s what the thick socks and army boots are for. I’ve not really thought of wearing them with other shoes because they probably wouldn’t fit in very well, and I don’t want to stretch my shoes or feel too cramped. I see there’s quite a few people who contribute here who tend to go without socks or hosiery – Karen, Ami, Jen (thehighheelsgirl) and maybe even a few more. So I’m not that unusual! With the kind of boots I’m likely to be wearing in romantic situations, I’d probably not be wearing socks anyway, so I don’t have to worry about things matching. I give my feet a bit of a pedicure three times a week and clear off the surplus skin with a pumice stone and re-paint my nails, so they’re usually not too bad to look at. As we’ve discussed elsewhere, some men, including my current boyfriend, like the idea of making love with me wearing high heels, so they stay on sometimes when I want to give him a little treat. I am slightly self conscious of my feet smelling, which is something we sockless people have to be careful about, but fortunately my antiperspirant rarely lets me down. I’ve not had any complaints! I rub my big toe against the one next to it and if the skin feels reasonably dry, I know it’ll be OK. If it feels wet I’ll go into another room to undress, just in case. Obviously, if I’m wearing leggings or trousers I have to take my boots or shoes off, but one can step out of a skirt just as easily booted as barefoot. Alexa
heidi.bier Posted June 20, 2010 Author Posted June 20, 2010 It is interesting Alexa that in romantic situations, we both sometimes keep our high heels on and that we are both conscious of smell. You are conscious of smell as you do not wear socks with your heels in romantic situations. I am conscious of smell even though I typically would have thick woolly socks and pantyhose underneath my high heeled boots. It is because I don't want to be in a potentially embarrassing situation that I do not allow my boots to come off or to even get unzipped. Some guys will try to convince me that I will feel more relaxed if my boots are unzipped during romantic moments but the opposite is true. If they are unzipped, I would be conscious of smell escaping and I would have to curl my toes to prevent my boots from accidentally getting any looser. Also, with pantyhose on and boots which I don't let the guys remove, my dates know there will be no easy access
Alexa Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 When I was younger I used to wonder what would happen if my boots got somehow permanently fastened to my feet. I even remember having one or two dreams about it as a child. Thanks to that incident with the jammed zips I know what it's like, and it just feels damp and clammy. Some evenings when I go round to my boyfriend's house but don't stay the night, I don't bother to take my boots off whilst I'm there, bcause I kmow I'll be home in a few hours and will be having a shower anyway. He certainly doesn't seem to mind me keeping them on! Alexa
heidi.bier Posted June 21, 2010 Author Posted June 21, 2010 Alexa, does your bf have hard wood floors, tiles, ceramic or carpeted floors? When you walk around your bf's place in your heels, does it make any noise? I find that the longer I keep my fur lined high heel boots on, the less I want to take them off as I have already adjusted to their warmth, the comfort of the plush fur lining and feeling very well protected. During the brief moments at home after work when I change footwear, I feel so vulnerable and exposed with my boots off ....... anyone else have that feeling too?
Alexa Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 In both our houses we've got a bit of everything on the floor - tiles, carpet, lino and bare boards. I quite like clattering along the tiled hallway. It sounds very severe and professional somehow! Alexa
heidi.bier Posted June 22, 2010 Author Posted June 22, 2010 I love the clacking of my heels against tiled floors at the office. Some co-workers/friends claim they can tell which pair of heels I am wearing just by the sound they make on the floor. Alexa, I am guessing your bf can tell which pair of heels you are wearing by the sound alone as well?
Alexa Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Now that would be a fun game. Get him to wear a blindfold and see if he can guess what I'm wearing from the sound. Perhaps with rewards and punishments depending on how accurate he is. That'll keep us entertained for an evening or two. Alexa
heidi.bier Posted June 24, 2010 Author Posted June 24, 2010 hahaha ...... I wonder how well most guys can do with guess which pair of heels I am wearing just by the sound of it. Girls I suspect would be much better at such a game. Thin heels and thick heels make different sounds. Metal heels, plastic heels, wooden heels and cork heels make different sounds. Most guys I know can't tell the difference in sound between a sandal, pump or boot though. They also can't tell heel height based on sound just yet. At least the guys that I know. Have you ever played the guess the heel sound game with your guy friends?
