It's been a fortnight since we got back and although I started this over a week ago it got dumped cos I ran out of time and could not save it, sorry but that's life. so rewrite 1 Last week of February we took a week of in Prague with temperatures of -2 and -9 and that was the highest and the lowest, so sandals weather it was not! Thick coats, hats and boots was the standard, did I mention boots yep 98% of the female population had boots. Flats to stunning heels even a single spotting of a <6" pair out mid afternoon! and what a sight to watch from behind and she wasn't slow! Most were up to 3" but far more than what I see locally at home in the 4-5" range and all were "stepping out head high" on prague's cobble stones. Many of the tourists (kids) were in trainers or similar, a few flat dolly shoes (silly). Shop staff often redressed for indoors especially in the many fashion stores which seemed to be every 5th shop, seamlessly outnumbering the souvenir shops. Heels is the fashion, Aldo, Viv westwood was found, numerous others in windows in locations giving to stay anonymous. I've attached just an example, sorry I could not see whose and again sorry it was taken thought the window. This was their quiet season, I can only look forward to our (in the planning stage) return in May next year to see what is out on the street cos it's got to be awesome. I did plan to do some heeling but Chris was a little too anti so it never happened:cry1:. Some of the locations - towers with spiral staircases etc would however be almost lethal in heels, hell they were scary in flats. Stunning place to visit but if you buy a ushanka (russian hat) take the badge off, the locals hate them and you will be stopped by officials (metro) regularly and you WILL get some very dirty looks! Alsheels:-) Considering that you took your pic through a glass wndow it turned out very nice. Too bad those shoes weren't on the street on someones feet for you to view that way. Glad to read that the citizens were all into boots for your pleasure. Sounds like you had a great heely trip there. It is always good to see how the other half of the world lives. Cheers--- Dawn HH

High Heeled Boots Forever!

It's changed an awful lot since I was last there. I went to Czechoslovakia in 1992 - the year after Russia had vacated the Country - and it was still very much an undeveloped place - Wenceslas Square in Prague was just a quaint (but large) Tourist attraction and Banking centre, with very few fashion shops.

Nearly 20 years on and it's obvious the unstoppable tide of commercialism has taken over........I did have the BEST Indian meal I've ever had there though!
