  1. I've diagnosed this myself now. It was the discussion over pop-ups and cookies that was the clue. My pop-up & cookie manager has the referrer commands set on removed. This block on my identity has set the image to block me back in return. The images that worked OK were the ones already in the browser cache on my hard drive and any new ones this week were blocked. So I only need to uncheck the selection as and when I need it, just a pity that this is something I never needed to fiddle with before. Anyone else blocking referrer commands will get this problem with the uploaded images. /I

  2. I did apologise that this was a disgression, as we don't have forked threads on this forum, and generally about other possible manufacturers in and around London. I certainly don't intend additions to the schedule, the two planned visits are quite enough for one day. Custom builders and charity shops down Upper St. are probably for your own time. _ Back to the digressing discussion: on the last meetup when we passed through Camden Market right at the end of the trading day, we did stop and chat next to a glass case containing samples of Transmuter boots. The shutters were down mostly but they must be there for a reason. The shop refering to the Magic Shoe Co. might just have had one item of very ancient stock they were auctioning off but it is odd otherwise. The Goth boots people therefore look as if they are using several sources then, again someone must be making those Transmuters. Perhaps LSB do make the straight non-platform stilletos but they are on 4.5" rise lasts which is not an LSB shape. The platform boots don't look like any obvious source. There are two important designs one last has a 1" rise with male sizes and one last has a 2.5" rise some with male sizes. They have the leather quality work of Leatherworks but who knows. There are a few more on a 3" rise last, no male sizes, they must come from yet another source. It is quite complicated. /I

  3. If you haven't maxxed out your credit card then Gap have a fresh range in; prices are a lot lower in the US anyway. Boot fit or moderate flares and a second range of the same in male low rise style. The low rise didn't work well on me in their general shape and they didn't have the right leg lengths in stock. They flattered with the next size waist smaller too!!! I enjoyed that bit of the shopping session just not signing the charge slip. It was my first shopping trip to fit with 3" block heels. This was payback time from the bargains I got in sept 2002 during the double discount sale of summer stuff (two short sleeved shirts, two pairs of khaki shorts, one fairly naff wind proof thin jacket all for 65GBPs/$100) :(

  4. Half of everyones photos have stopped working for me on these pages this last couple of days. I can't think what has gone wrong. The ones on this topic and the previous JB VIdoe ones from High Surprise aren't working. I saw them OK on the other thread because I commented there. However I can see the pic for Daz30 new present for his wife, the black ankle strap courts with the studded heel. On the High Heel Album thread no pix except in posts from Vanessa and Grunty. Also some of the Avatars are working fine, mine, Lauries, hhds, Firefox, Trolldeg, Ulli, ILuvHeels etc. but not High Surprise, Akev44, PJ and others all very mysterious, is this just me???? :( help with diagnosis please!! /I

  5. I installed a freebie cookie/pop up manager quite a long time ago and this relieved a lot of the nuissance pop ups espcecially those total screen takeover ones. Cookies are either manually set to accept / reject (eg accepted on this web site) or otherwise 'session only' cookies so the web site functions but the cookie is wiped when you shut down. Pop-up blocker can be switched on/off Link referrals blocker is switched on (sorry Firefox if this stops the click through income micro-payments here) Also I have lots of site or image file blockers on lots of adservers. This speeds up of lot of ad-riddled pages. I don't seem to be able to stop ads done in Flash (without getting rid of Flash). The program is a bit ancient now and needs quite a bit of training - CookieCopII - but works fine with browser/Zone Alarm firewall/AVG as other defenses. All I need to do is do lots of version updating now of all those security thingies!!! /I

  6. Ah, I checked back and it was an undated web page. The home page contact phone number was 0181 xxx xxxx, so that was a very old page indeed. But the Aberdeen shop referred to MSC in the present tense.

Also someone has to makethe www.gothboots.co.uk stuff.

  7. Sorry, a bit of a digression, but this follows on from Heelfan's comments about the few specialist UK manufacturers and how we should supportive of them when we can be.

Some randome surfing found this: (quoted from some web page listing of ethical vegetarian/vegan footwear suppliers)

MAGIC SHOE COMPANY London, mto, wholesale, mailorder, retail at 88 Mile End Rd E1 (workshop and showroom) and 27 Shorts Gardens, Covent Garden (basement showroom) has stiletto boots and mules for rubber fetishists, such as thigh-length lace-ups. Catalogues are three pounds by credit card on the phone. The staff are quite used to special requests for different materials and for high heels in mens' sizes, although if your fetish is for anorak cloth you would save 40 - 60 pounds by going to Loveson.

They were referred by the Aderdeen shop, Nitelifeuk, WWW.NITELIFEUK.COM in a clearance sale item on eBay (sz 8 velvety court) at

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=53565&item=2865191183

The question is, do Magic really manufacture and what does anyone know about them?

    _

Also worth noting is another source, probably rather to goth for most people here on this forum, Pennangalan.com also at URL http://www.gothboots.co.uk/

This is an online mailorder only outfit without retail premises and the interesting question is who actually manufactures their designs (leather, patent, rubber etc.). Part but not all their catalogue is done in mens sizes (other than the obviously male styles) and they switch from size F8 to M8 then through to M11. The larger sizes are to a male specifaction which is somewhat wider and the knee boots have fatter calf measurement. Prices are high but seem a bit less than Leatherworks.

(10% off Halloween promotion just ended last night)

Could Magic Shoe Co. be the manufacturers? It certainly can't be LSB and it doesn't feel like Leatherworks either. But it does mean that there are some male spec. lasts around at one maker somewhere (for 2.5" and 4.5" heel rise).

I'm sure someone knows all the answers, worth some research if not.

  8. Well I just won some stretchy fabric 4" boots on eBay unopposed at lunchtime today for 5GBPs INCLUDING postage. That should be within anyone's tightest budget! :( I don't think he allowed for enough postage so I might add on another 75p or so. /I

  9. The main thing is you stuffed yourself at Pizza Hut as you wanted even if you didn't score with a waitress!!!

Now South Moulton St. and Bond St., there are lots of fancy designer shops aren't there??? Bet they don't fit you though...... :(

The second story was interesting; complex things go in women's heads too about these issues. Perhaps she was also expressing a frustration with the rigidity of gender roles and wishing them to be more blurred.

I just watched a history channel documentary on the Egyptian queen Hapshetsut (c.1500 BCE) and they discussed how her image became increasingly transgendered throughout her 20yr reign, from early feminine sculptures to later ones with glue on beard. Indeed, most importantly, she ruled as a Pharoah and not as a Queen. She is also the first historically known and recorded woman from anywhere in the world despite the iconclasm that chiselled out her image and tried to erase her from history.

  10. And if these avatars are available in my size.... :(

So you like my 'dollies' then, Robert? :(

I can't tell you very much. They were an eBay win, one of my first which I probably overpaid a lot for. They were an expensive and high quality item from a catalogue which the seller said was called 'Empire'. The label inside gives the brand/designer name 'Spiral' and an "S" logo. They are leather (semi patent) outside and so also are the linings and even the sole is leather look alike. The block heel is about 9cms. They are solid, heavy and well made in Spain and these are a broad UK9; whether they ever did a 10 for you I don't know. They are still pretty stiff despite wearing quite a lot indoors, a 9cm heel is the maximum I can wear for long periods without feeling my ankle at all. They are rather too long for me and it is only the strap that keeps them on, though the width is pretty good.

I wish I could actually help locate some for you, sorry!!

  11. Thursdays is late-shopping day in London

    mmmmmmmn

....if our ankles hold up for the day... :(

    _

Where did the stars of the last heel-meet hide away their four changes of shoes? That is some bulk to carry around all day without actually buying anything more to add to the load! Looks like the fla**ies will have to get the chop. :(

  12. True, nothing beats leather on a pair of boots but I've had one or two successes on cheapo eBay bargains that were plastic but you are totally stuffed if your plastic shoe is ill-fitting. As Gene said about Zappos, here at Argos Additions you can get an ankle boot in leather for 22-25GBPs at the bottom end for fairly basic styles. I just walked past Ravel with a mid-season sale marking down boots from 55 to 35GBPs - I spotted a 42/8 - tempting... However there are legitimate uses for non-leather materials for different design intentions. Denin, a heavy variant, is occasionally used for boots and mules and things, and then there are those boots made using a stretchy lycra fabric which is very light and soft and moulds your shape exactly. Textile fabrics are deployed for the toe straps of summer slides/mules and plastic seems entirely appropriate for beach ware. Over on another thread is a question about the leopard pattern uppers on the metal heel shoe called 'Brazil' - I'm still trying to identify what they actually made of under the pattern. Synthetic materials are appropriate for those adjustable heavy duty sports sandals but I can't abide trainers as a day shoe, only for their proper purspose in the gym or on a long walk - I just get far too hot and they don't breathe. That is just a sample of possible examples, I can just remember leather ski-boots (and hickory skis!) as a small child and I definitely wouldn't want to go back to them!!! Everything in its place. /I
