  1. For many years I have been trying to overcome my fears and wear my heels in public. As many others here have said the only problem is in my own mind, and the noise made by the heels is one of my main problems.

To try an overcome this I had my local cobbler fit steel cleats (taps) to the heel of my male shoes. As you can imagine they make a lot more noise than any of my rubber or plastic tipped high heels and have been wearing these for the last couple of weeks.

This has helped me to build up my confidence and realize that most people don’t react to the sound of loud heels, if they do they are probably on this forum anyway !!!

  2. 1. How old have you been, when you got your first heels? 29 yrs 2. What was the reason (i.e. special event like carneval/ halloween; because you lost a bet; because you felt in love for them) I had always wanted my own heels but being in the military from age15 that proved difficult (back in the 60's) 3. Who paid the bill? I did 4. How much did you spend? 15 pounds 5. How and where did you buy? (retailer: grabbed and paid or tried them on; mail order company/ online; etc.) From a retailer ( no internet then ) Didn't try them on 6. Were you allowed to wear them at home (i.e. after of that special purpose)? Only on my own. Wife knows but prefers not to be confronted, but still talking about it so maybe one day!

  3. Hi Sept,

Those are nice aren't they? Let me guess, Peacocks? If they are then they felt really good but I the heel moved around a little under my weight when I walked in them in the store. Let me know how they work for you and I might grab myself a pair if they're a keeper .

I'm guessing the other pair you liked were the all black platform stilettos that haven't been put on their website yet?

    Chris

Right first time, they are very comfortable, plenty of room for the toes and they feel very stable, haven't had any problem with the heels feeling loose but then again they are only for inside use :)

I didn't see any black platforms in there! and Ididn't get back to the shop for the red/ black mottled ones either, work calls! just hope they still have them when I get back next month.

  4. Yes I do drive in heels, and without any problems, but I personally find 4" is about my limit for comfort and safety. Strangely enough I found the most comfortable driving position while wearing heels was when I was driving a 40 ton truck! because you are stepping down on the pedals instead of pushing forward on them as in a light vehicle.

  5. Some nice shoes in your collection. Why all black? and, where do you wear them?

Sorry I missed the multi quote !

"Why all black " good question ! I never thought about it before but I suppose nothing in any other color has caught my eye.

I mostly wear them in the house as I have been trying to brake out into public heeling for many years, with various degrees of success, from what I have read here over the years it's supposed to get easier, but I seem to start from scratch each time I venture out!:)

  6. All HHs in black. Should we call you "Men in Black"? :) I really like your collection ... that's maybe how mine will look like in a few years from now. Especially like in 002.jpg the first-row very right and back-row very right one. :) ... which brands are they?

Yes "men in black" would probably be a good description, though I'm not sure if that might be the Alien

The front right were from Matalan, last years collection, and the back right were from Newlook.

  7. Fantastic shoes. Love the style. They look incredibly sexy but with the ribbon also very cute!

Are they comfortable to walk in? I would love to try them on

They are a bit higher than I usually wear but with the insole padding removed they are still very comfortable, the padding was totally over the top with a full insole about 2mm thick! which left no room for the toes. here's a couple more pics

  8. Hang in there Lauren, and know that we are all pulling for you. There's some great advice here already, and from folks probably more knowledgable than I, but let me reitterate what PIB said about boots. They really give great support, espcially if they are real leather and lace up good and tight. I've had 2 surguries on my R Knee for ACL and meniscal tears, and I recently tore my Left ACL. Boots work wonders.

One other thing you might think about would be the hour-glass shaped heels, I think they are called Cuban Heels. The ones that start out wide, get skinny in the middle and flare out at the bottom. I have a pair of these and find them to be really stable.

Best of luck, and keep us up on your progress.

Do you mean a Louis Heel The attached pictues are of a 4" heel and are easy to walk in and are very stable.

  9. I was working away at the computer wearing my 4" heels and black boot cut jeans when the door bell rang, I was not expecting anybody so a quick check through the frosted glass of the front door, It didn't look like anybody I knew so I answered the door expecting a salesman or the post. No it was my next door neighbor wanting some advice on a problem with his car. With no other option and not wanting to be rude I had to invite him in. We talked through the problem with his car and after about ten minuets he was away to fix the problem. I don't think he even noticed my heels or at least he didn't show it! So it really did prove to me that people are so involved in there own lives that if you act natural and don't draw attention to yourself you can get away with anything including heels!

  10. Saw these in a window yesterday evening when the shop was closed, looked on line and they had the same style in RED, unfortunately when I went into the shop they were a different shade from that shown on line, almost a salmon pink. So I ended up with the black ! Very comfortable, 4 1/2" heel with a 1/2" platform size 8 UK.

  11. The penny's dropped!

Yes Dr Shoe you are so right, all the problems and the apprehension were all in my own head but it was not an easy place to find my way out of ! may be it was full of old rubbish collected over the years, life seems so much simpler the younger you are.

  12. After my first successful outing last week.

    Quote :-

I need to change my vote from, No, I have not yet found the courage to wear heels outside.to YES! Thank you all!!

Thanks to this forum and all who post here I finally wore my heels openly in the daylight and in town (Portsmouth) and guess what? no one even noticed!

After reading the advice of others here I brought a pair of heels a bit lower than my usual style and just went for it. After parking up I headed for the ticket machine only to find there was a maintainence man working on one of the machines, at this point I almost backed out but he never flinched even though my heels sounded like a train to me, that just boosted my confidence no end. After that it was all so easy, off through a major department store and away off through the main shopping precinct, checking out all the shoe shops along the way.

I now wonder what all the bother was about and realize that it was all in my own head and nobody out there actualy notices or they can't be bothered!

Once again Thanks to everyone here for the support and information.

    End Quote.

I had the opportunity to wear my heels out again on a trip to Southampton,

This time I had a lot more confidence from the start and was able to take in what was going on around me. I am sure that there were a few people that noticed mostly due to the sound they made, shop assistants seemed especially alert and I even got a knowing smile from one in the ladies shoe department of Debenhams.

Apart from that there were no wild reactions or comments even though there was a lot of younger student types hanging around. I spent over an hour walking around the shops and malls just as a guy wearing heels

Once again thanks to all here for the support and information that finally got me out and about in heels, as you have all said if you act confident you don't draw attention to yourself and no body cares!
