  1. I've just had to teeter down the outdoor fire escape at work in my favourite Louboutins!

I'd describe that as not "impossible" but pretty damn frightening and tricky!!

The fire alarm went off in the office. So slow with all those people trying to leave at once. Also fairly terrifying! I'm not got with great heights at the best of times but an open air metal staircase with wet paint putting the handrails out of action in places, was a scary experience.

There is no fire, and i didn't break my ankle, and my lovely Loubies are unharmed! phew

  2. I do but I did not realize it until a guy told me once he had been watching me do it. Since then I have been more concious of it. I do it all the time in mules, often in pumps and slingbacks. If the shoes have an ankle strap then I end up just bouncing my crossed leg. I now do it intentionally sometimes just to see if anyone is watching.

mmmm so easy to do this without realising it. i play with my heels almost subconsciously, sometimes it's intentional but lots of times i just find myself doing it in meetings or under my desk at the office

  3. Hi Sangue, I have also regularly experienced the same bias, and more so in smaller towns. Luckily people in the cities will be less concerned about what others are wearing, but I have also experienced some bias at work where people  would not believe that someone can actually enjoy wearing heels every day. I love dressing classy, yet conservative.

    Hi Dianne,

love the pictures btw classy as you say. I used to work in a smaller town and now work in a city, (both in UK rather than US) but i know what you mean about bias.

What sort of behavoiour from colleagues made you think that they were biased against you?

  4. Did you know that L K Bennett's brother Gordon was a tailor? He created the range Gor'Blimey Trousers, and he lived in a council flat. (Sorry, Amanda.)

did he also "look a proper 'nana in his great big hobnail boots?" or should i be posting that in the guys section :-)

  5. Hi all, I was chatting to my friend Sarah yesterday who had worn some new high heels for work and found that during a busy day that her feet were killing her. She said that she'd been rushing around all day and that she was in real pain, then quite unexpectedly she added something like "oh i've just taken some Ibuprofen, hopefull that will help" I was a bit surprised, never having thought of taking painkillers to lessen foot pain like that. Is that something people on here have tried? Louise

  6. Slip ons are easier at security for sure but not if you have to get a move on to make a connection which I often seem to have to. (wish my hold luggage understood the importance of moving swiftly in a tight connection) Whatever time I might loose unbuckling is made up for by not wearing any jewelery.

lol you've "done a Cinderella" at the airport once or twice too then?

Oh and moving lots of luggage around an airport wearing heels can be a bit of a 'mare too!

oh and i meant to ask what happened at mineapolis st paul! that sounds like you had a really bad time there Amanda?

  7. When I drive I always exchange mine for trusty flats which I keep under the seat of the car. When I travel I pack them individually in little velvet drawstring backs and they always go in the Hard shelled wheelie luggage. I put socks in my carry on flight bag to keep my feet warm and off the sticky carpets on Russian internal flights.(Also I'm sure would prove very handy if you crash land in polar regions)

I usually don't wear expensive shoes for any kind of travel. I tend to wear comfy ankle strap or T bars without pointed toes. If you need to make an impression on landing then the posh ones are packed inside the socks in your carry on. Never wear white, cream or light colored skirts, dresses or trousers in case you spill your wine. (nothing to do with heels I know)

Frustrations are a delay prior to a connection which causes one to have to walk much faster than is comfortable.

Hiking across Minneapolis st Paul airport.

Pavements (sidewalks) below 40 degrees Latitude.

People who stand and get packed and dressed at security on the other side of the bag scanner conveyor while I'm on tiptoe waiting with my tray in full view. I've actually adopted a zero tolerance policy here now so watch out if any of you happen to be one of them.

I could go on and on grr

Much good long distance travel advice from you there Amanda! might take notes myself! I'm naughty and don't switch to flats for driving. Interesting what you said about t-straps or ankle straps for the airport. i tend to go for courts i can slip off easily, without bending down to unstrap if I get asked by the security folks to remove my shoes!
