Cool, but a bit too wide at the heel for my liking.

I had a great discussion about heels with a work colleague the other week. A woman walked by at an event we were working on (we're in safety boots - it's work) wearing a very high pair of stilettoes. My colleague remarked that she wished she was wearing her heels & not workboots. I commented that, although great, they weren't really my style. We talked for about half an hour on all aspects of heels & wearing them. After half an hour she remarked that although I wasn't the first guy she'd encountered who wore heels, I was the first who talked about it. Which, to be fair, is not something I do a lot of anyway. It was refreshing in that it was on a level, rather than the outsider looking in type conversations I've had in the last couple of years. i.e. 'how do you walk in those?' or lectures on what damage I might be doing or the political implications of wearing heels (the worst).

I don't feel feminine when wearing heels. I'm a man who likes to wear heels, simple as. I like shoes & boots as opposed to sandals & it took me a while to work out that it's heels I'm into, not dresses. I didn't really wear them out in public until I'd worked that one through. I don't try & hide my heels either, they're all high!

I do 90% of my journeys by bike, so if I'm in stilettos, then sometimes a pair of sneakers for long rides is a good idea. With wedges, I don't normally bother, but they're also a little lower.

Can't fault the advice here, esp. from TBG. Once you have a complete look you are confident & feel comfortable with, you'll be able to handle any comments & looks a lot easier as well.

Apart from drag queens, I think I've seen about 4 men in heels in the 5 & half years I've been living where I am. It's not a big heel city, pavements are not so great in places, I choose my routes in stilettos, wedges gives me more options. Don't tend to wear them shopping, as I want to be in & out as quick as possible!

7 inches with a 2 inch platform is my comfortable limit.

Personally, I prefer a platform, it's way easier on the balls of the feet. I think they look better on my feet too, but again it's down to personal preference.

My boots came today. I have to concur with hhboots, they are stealthy! Just back from a roadtest in weekday daylight (not normally a time you'll really find me in heels), I wasn't aware of any 2nd glances. They're a little lower than what I normally wear, with a slightly wider heel. Just have to watch the tree roots that buckle the pavements here, I can't traverse them in the same way as I would in heels. I'm sure it'll be easier if I have to climb over any fallen trees though (which I once had to do in the shoes you see in my avatar).

Boots came today, not a bad fit, quite comfy, about a 4.5" wedge with 1" platform. Took 'em for a roadtest in some very public places. Possibly the most discrete 'heels' I've owned. I can see these being worn a lot! I'll post a pic at some point.

I've just ordered my 1st pair - boots - can't wait to get 'em!

No thanks.

I've just ordered a pair of ankle boots with a wedge heel, should be here in a week.

Never been good on a board, ride my bike in heels though.

I can't wear heels in my work, so I don't have that dilemma. Not sure whether I would, as I tend to keep work & out of work clothing seperate. I like to wear heels at night, I'm running around too much in the days. Most people don't notice & I don't hide them, I wear skinny jeans & so they are on display & high! Even in my tolerant city there are areas where wearing them could attract trouble, but then again, if I had dark skin I would get the same trouble. I can take my heels off. Sad but true. In the main though, people don't notice & if they do it's mainly stares. I was scared in the beginning, now the thing that concerns me the most is some of the terrible sidewalks round here. The comments quoted from the book ring true with me. I'm one of those people who clocks people's shoes before any of their other clothing, & yeah, I have to remember that not everyone else works the same way (or they would all be heels! lol!). I decided early on not to hide my heels with my clothes, as guys I've seen in heels who've done this look unstylish & a little freaky. Its almost as if their style had become prisoner to their fears, & I could feel this. With one guy, it was the heavyness in his soul I sensed before I saw what he was wearing. Of course, there could be other issues in his life too. But the guys I've seen who don't hide the footwear have seemed to be the ones having a better time.

Great topic FreshinHeels
Yes I do and I have been asking myself that for years which would explain all the times that I have binged and then thrown out many nice pairs of heels.
I too agree that if I could ignore the issue -life would be so easier but then those heels pull at me again and I'm back to them. But then when I get to wear them-I feel great and the the doubt starts again. It's a circle that I have been doing for many years now.
Me too. Once I finally accepted it, I took time to get something that I liked (Oxfords). I'm just a man who likes wearing (very high) heels.

I see it as both. There's the obvious restrictions that come with wearing them, but I sense of empowerment that I can. I wear them because I want to. I felt quite empowered the other night when on my home, I had no choice but to climb over a fallen tree wearing 6" stilettos with a 2" platform. Had to think about it for a bit, but I made it!

Good to hear you've sacked this 'therapist'. As others have noted, they are snake oil salesmen, nothing more. It's great when you cross that threshold. It'll do you more good than 5 years of her therapy. At the end of that you'll still be unhappy & she'll have a Porsche.

As long as it's well designed, I don't mind. I personally prefer wearing a platform (& thus a higher heel overall), it spares the balls of my feet from the uneven pavements round here.

I love Oxfords. I have a pair on now, 7" heel with a 2" platform in black patent leather. Surprisingly comfy & very classy.
-
It all depends on the design. I know which I prefer to wear!
-
Cos I love 'em, the look, the kick I get wearing them! A great invention!

I don't feel comfortable in anything less than a 4 inch rise either. I don't have any tendon problems as I practise Qi Gong, which is great for keeping tendons in shape!

These are my highest pair, 7" with a 2" platform. They're quite comfortable to spend 5-6 hours in. The boots are a 5" wedge with a 1" platform. I can wear them all day & they're great for walking in.
