  1. Hi,

I'm going to get into town early tomorrow, avoid the bound-to-be-awful crowds, and buy these:

I really like the square too (can't bear pointy toes), and they come in a round toe version too:

Crazy prices, too good to miss. Looks like, from the reviews, these have been appealing to guys (anyone here?) like me/us, and I can't wait to wear them to work in the New Year.

Speaking of square toe platform heels, I been eyeing these from Next for a while, but they only go up to 43, which even in their wide-fit I find too small. Such a shame, I love the colours! How I wish Next would raise their sizes to 44. Heaven!

  2. Hi all,

I bought these from Pricesless last Friday. Already worn them for work (with a new skirt from M&S) last Sunday. Really comfortable, UK11, almost 4 inch heel but realy easy to walk in and wear. And ONLY £20.00!

    http://www.pricelessshoes.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product1_11051_-1_115104_11051

Pity about this icy weather. I wanted to wear them today, for the last day at work, and then hit the pub this afternoon, but it's just too risky on these pavements in heels.

Best wishes for the holidays to all

    Love

  3. Hi all,

Having perused most of their collection at the shop in Nottingham, and the concession at Miss Selfridge in Birmingham, I can confirm that they are 3 inch heels.

None of their shoes or boots are more than 4 inch, which is fine for me; 3 - 4 inches is my heel-height. It's only this year that they have been doing heeled shoes and boots at all, although I've been an enthusiastic customer of them for some years, for both long, lovely skirts and jeans and trousers which fit better than any of those intended for men.

You can see from the website where their shops and other outlets can be found.

I've just arrived at work on this crisp, cold and bright, Sunday morning, in an ankle length navy-blue linen skirt, from Next, Falke grey-shimmer opaque tights, and red 3 inch(ish) red court shoes. Oh, and a 3 inch wide red patent belt from John Lewis, and a red and blue bangle. Not that much different from most weekdays at work (academic library), although I'd probably omit the belt.

These are the shoes, they're really wide fitting so great for big footed buggers like me:

  4. Hi all,

With Autunm upon us and Winter ahead, I've bought some ankle boots, mostly for workwear:

    http://www.shoetailor.com/productcache/SHO/BO7346/FE504CW.html.gz

Wonderful fit, I'm wearing them now. You can't tell from the picture, but the heel is actually a chisel shape, lovely to walk in, with a decisive 'thud'!

I also bought these in brown:

    http://www.shoetailor.com/productcache/SHO/BO7346/FE874CW.html.gz

I know have this style in black, navy, red, white and brown. Cheap and cheerful, and thanks to the extra-width, very comfortable day in, day out.

    Best wishes,

    Tosca

  5. Hi, I have very wide feet, and my left is wider than my right, so I struggle with pointed toes, not to mention fit. But I was wondering what the difference is exactly between rounded and almond-toe shoes? Is it just the degree of 'roundness', a matter of subtle angles? Best wishes, Tosca

  6. Hi, I work in an academic library, and frequently in a very public capacity. I was also wearing an ankle length green cord skirt, which I'm also wearing at work today (slumming it, wearing the same skirt 2 days running!), though with 2 inch-heel (block) knee high boots. I'm fortunate in having the full support of the library management and of the University as a whole in my freestylin' ways, and my colleagues are either indifferent or complementary, and I often exchange ideas with some female colleagues. Everyone generally is supportive, and it's a very positive environment for someone who does not feel bound by the conventions of gendered uniformity. And I'm 50 next year! Best wishes, Tosca

  7. Hi all, I was called into my manager's office this afternoon for an informal meeting. As I've taken the plunge over the last two weeks and been coming to work in a skirt 'cos it's been so warm I was half-expecting it at some point. I was pleasantly surprised to be told that I had the full support not only of the management of the library, where I work, but of the University as a whole, and if I was the recipient of any negative comments or abuse from either colleagues or library users, they wanted to hear about it. I've been wearing heeled boots and court-shoes to work for ages, but apart from weekend working, with bifurcated legwear. Wearing a skirt and/or heels out and about or when working at weekends has never been an issue, and my colleagues have always been supportive and encourageing. This has all been quite a revelation, learning of my employer's very enlightened atttudes. I wish we could all enjoy such freedoms and the support of our employers. I know I'm fortunate. Best wishes, Tosca

  8. Hi all, I usually go to classical concerts, orchestral and chamber, in a long skirt though not always in heels. But I've never had an adverse comment or reaction from anyone. I'm going to a concert next Friday, I haven't worked out my outfit yet. It depends partly on what the weather is likely to be; I don't drive so I walk to the concert hall from home, about 20 mins. As long as what you are wearing 'works' and is attractively coordinated, it seems that it is far less likely to be seen by the mundanes as controversial or challenging. Best wishes, Tosca.

  9. Hi all, I've been wearing a pair of navy 3 inch heel court shoes for a couple of days this week. I work in an academic library, so I'm seeing people all day, in the office and around the building. I get compliments from several of my female colleagues, which is nice. Today, as it's Friday, I'm wearing black patent 3 inch block heel MJs (Pleaser Gogo). It's the first time I've worn them during the week here, only one person has said they were 'striking', and I think she was being complimentary..... Generally, most people around here, students or staff, don't seem to be bothered by it. Maybe they're just used to my 'amusing eccentricities...?' If I'm working at weekends here I'll usually wear a long skirt. I haven't gotten to that point during the week yet, but over this coming summer, when a lot of people wear crops, I reckon I can get away ok in a knee length denim or khaki skirt and summer wedges.....well, I can but try and see what happens.....? All best wishes Tosca

  10. Hi, Yep, that's them! I've just had an email from Banana saying they are currently out of stock in this size but will be getting some in about 2 weeks. Groan! Guess I'll have to hang on in quiet desperation until then. Tosca

  11. Greetings all, I've just ordered a pair of concealed platform courts/pumps from Banana Shoes: I don't know how to put the picture in, they are in Pumps 9 on their website and are called 'Hideout', and are in grey. I fancied the grey as it goes with pretty much anything, jeans or a skirt, denim or whatever. They only go up to a UK 11, so I hope they're not sized small. I can't wait for them to come so I can try them on. One of my female colleagues is keen to see them too. If she likes them on me, she says she'll get a pair for herself Someone started a thread here not long ago about concealed platform shoes, but it didn't seem to attract much enthusiasm. Personally, I think they look great, and I expect the platform will make them really comfortable to wear. Best wishes, Tosca.

  12. Hi,

Hello Whynot, I am planning to buy myself a pair of the Vanity 4" too, at the end of the month, in black leather.

I've previously bought Pleaser's Gogo's (Mary Janes, 3" block heel, in red and black patent), really nice shoes but the sizing is on the small side. I would definitely suggest going a size up on what you would normally buy. However, the Gogos are square-toed so there's no room to manoeuvre, whereas the Vanitys are pointy so they may be more forgiving. I'm probably going to err on the side of caution and go for a size bigger than usual.

I'd be interested to know how you get along with them, compare notes-sort-of-thing?

I'm also planning to treat myself to a pair of concealed platform shoes, 4.5", available in the UK from Banana Shoes. I'm very taken with them, and they're available in grey, and I don't have any shoes in grey. You can see them here:

    Best wishes,

  13. Hi all, I've been reliably informed that New Look have shoes in larger sizes (i.e. over a UK 8, and in wider fittings), but I haven't yet had the chance to go in and see for myself. Unfortunately they don't have a website. Have any of you UK chaps been in checked it out? And I've seen some very nice looking shoes and boots on the Matalan website, which is rudimentary to say the least; they don't have size ranges on at all. Yes I know Matalan is very cheap, downmarket and a bit chavvy, and most of their stuff is probably make under appalling conditions somewhere, but it is cheap...... So has anyone any information about sizes there too? I'm getting cheesed off buying online all the time, just because the High Street shops don't have larger sizes! Best wishes, Tosca

  14. H, I take your point about the wearer's feet maybe looking bigger HF, but on the other hand, if the wearer already has feet the size of a small country, like me, they may cause things to look better proportioned? I'd like to try them, but as yet I haven't been able to find a UK/European source. Any help with that would be really appreciated... Best wishes, Tosca.

  15. Hi, I vaguely remember a feature on a UK 'News' programme about some shoes like this, about a year ago. A pair were given to a dancer and aerobics instructor, who didn't usually wear heels other than for evening socialising. She wore them all day, even for taking an aerobics class! She said she found them utterly comfortable and would quite happily wear them anywhere, anytime. Sounds as good as they look to me. I'm pretty sure these are what was being talked about. I hope they're available over here..... Best wishes, Tosca

  16. Hi, Nice shoes/skirt combination in pic #1. Denim and plain courts/pumps is a classic look on anyone. This Sunday I'm putting in a few hours overtime (hey it's double-time, what else can a guy do?), and as it's the weekend I can push the boat out a bit. I'm planning on wearing my Pleaser 3-inch block-heel, black patent Mary Janes ('Gogo 50?), with an ankle length smart black skirt, sort of fairly formal, and a black roll-neck sweater. It's a bit black, but hey, I look good in black! I work in an academic library and my colleagues are well-used to my free-stylin' ways and I've found I can discuss shoes and skirts and stuff with most of the women I work with quite freely. I've learned a lot from them. None of the students seem to notice, much less care, and since we have students from all over the world I like to think I'm spreading a little freedom and tolerance around the planet......? All best wishes, Tosca

  17. Hi all. Just a casual glance over the offerings from Next made me drool, but also quake with frustration! There is no way I could squeeze my feet into their sizes, it's such a shame. I will definitely go along to Evans and take a look at their range next weekend though. Tosca
