  1. few women wear stiletto heels. While there might be more today than 10 years ago, it's still a distinct minority here in Rochester,NY. I'd guess no more than 20-30% of the females, regardless of the age bracket, work, business or social occasion. Is it because of how they look, how they feel, or a combination, or something else?

  2. The good weather has finally arrived here in Rochester,NY and the gals are slowly starting to venture out in their heels here in downtown. On Monday it was in the mid-60's and a young lady was walking smartly on Main St. with old-fashioned black 4" spiked pumps. We shared a street corner for a few moments as we waited for the light to change. She was the center of attention from male and female pedestrians alike based almost solely on her choice of footwear. I sensed she knew she was attracting attention because she knew her legs and shoes looked smashing. Some of you gals here on the forum must know what it's like to be the center of attention because of your footwear. What's it like to turnso many heads? Thanks.

  3. Katie Couric will open the flood gates for women national news reporters when it comes to high heels. Their footwear will be more prominent on the nightly newscasts. Competition is a wonderful thing...

  4. It rained cats and dogs today in downtown Rochester, NY. Still there was an amazing sight on the lunch hour. A young lady strode through the library in brown "capri" type pants with 4" black stiletto pumps. All the nicer because she walked the length of a tiled floor. She left the building and met up with two other "colleagues", both wearing pants and at least 3-4" spike pumps. All three went my route just ahead of me in the rain. They stopped to figure out where they were going and let me walk right past. Beautiful. Now here's the interesting part. I don't know what their occupations were, what their mission was, etc. I only know what I saw and liked it. But I have to question whether they expected to be taken seriously dressed in the heels as they were. If they were secretaries, I think they'd be taken seriously as secretaries. If they were in marketing or computers or another hard discipline, I think it would have made it harder from my point of view. What do you think? Would it make a difference to the men or women they were meeting with?

  5. What do High Heels do for a woman? - High heels make a young woman appear more mature; - High heels make an older woman more youthful; - High heels send a message for all to see that this lady's "still got it" or hasn't lost it; - The same pair of High heels can take the lady to church or the bedroom, strictly based on "attitude"; - High heels can make the lady feel classy or vulgar, depending on her mood (and who's she 's with); - High heels tell her beau that she's willing to "give it that little extra" for their relationship; - This world would be a different place without High Heels!!

  6. Young ladies here in downtown Rochester NY are breaking out their high heels in a big way since the weather turned. Unfortunately, the 4" plus heels I see are hidden under their long pant legs and are available for only the briefest glimpse. I can only conclude that they like it this way. The ladies enjoy the feel of their footwear, but don't "showoff" for others to see. What a shame from my point of view.

  7. The 20-something ladies of Rochester NY have certainly taken to stiletto heels in a big way this fall. It's understandable they'd be wearing pants with them most of the time. The problem for us guys is they're covering up their 4" plus heels so there is only a hint of what's on their feet. What a waste. Why is that? Please enlighten us?

  8. Jehovah's Witnesses were the latest religious group in Rochester NY having a convention last weekend. Same style as before: Women extremely well dressed for a Friday mid-day downtown meeting, but an older crowd, dressed al ittle more frumpy, heels definitely lower than the last group...

  9. Friday noon here in downtown Rochester NY there were more spike heels on the street during my lunch time walk than the last two weeks combined. Come to find out there was a religious convention going on at the civic arena and the folks were heading out for lunch. This is not the first time I've noticed this. Most if not all these ladies were dressed in their "Sunday best", some with husbands and some with kids. Mind you, they are meeting in a hockey arena, i.e., lots of steep stairs and not much legroom. 4 and 5 inch heels were in abundance, not the exception. Their nametags indicated "God's Country", or something close to that. I've noticed the last few years more and more conservative religious groups formimg where the women dress in skirts, etc. I admit I've never asked, but my hunch is these religions are very male dominated, and the womens' clothing style reflects this. I suspect this is the way the men and the women like it. And I suspect this has more to do with power then religion. Are high heel ladies more conservative ?

  10. Just for the record, My original post was trying to categorize heels I see on the street AND ones I buy for the wife. In each category, some of the ones I buy for her have been "hits" , and some have been returned... I was trying to further a discussion about heels, trying to see if others made the same mental categorizations that I do. What do you think?

  11. Try as I might to lift this forum out of the doldrums of the past few weeks,I can't seem to stimulate much discussion with good news reports from Rochester,NY,etc. So here's another attempt. I buy my wife new shoes in all the catagories listed above, i.e., 0-2 inch heels,2-4 inch heels, and 4 inch plus heels. Sometimes the heels are thick or thin (stiletto). This is what those heel heights mean to me as I look for her footwear. 0-2 inch heels: uniform of the day, like jeans or sneakers. Comfort and seriousness of purpose are essential. 2-4 inch heels: I want her to be seen as attractive, and comfort and seriousness are still understood. 4 inch plus heels: i want to see her as a sex object, in the very best sense of the words. NOTHING dirty, suggestive,or perjorative is implied. She looks great !! Thick or thin: here is where the line is blurred. I don't know where a 5 inch block heel always fits into these categories. Your thoughts on all of this is appreciated. Thanks.

  12. The trend towards wearing what I call "doris day" type high heels is definitely on the rise here this fall. Usually when the hot fads get here in the hinterland, they've just about run their course. Let's hope not! We have a mother/daughter combo that work in our office who both are very much into high heels. The mom in the 2-3inch range, the 18 year old very much in the 4-5 inch category. I HEARD the click...click...click of a hi-heeled woman coming down the street Monday and it was the two of them on their bank rounds. The daughter had on only what can be described as classic 5-inch grey Doris day pumps. Outstanding. Later, standing in line for lunch, another young lady in a fringed denim skirt showed a perfect set of legs in near 5 inch white courts. She spun around on her heels several times, knowing she looked good for whoever might be watching, including me. If you have reports like these, perhaps you can share them, letting us know where it is.

  13. I'm pleased to report that with the cooler weather, I am definitely seeing more gals in Hi-heel footware now. I'm also noticing that gals tend to be in groups and each wear higher heels that were not really part of the downtown scene until very recently. Ladies, is it easier to wear great hi heels when you're with a friend, or would you rather be the center of attention? At least here in Rochester, the ladies seem to like hi-heel "strength" in numbers. Any thoughts? Thanks.

  14. the men of the northern hemisphere, I just want to express to the ladies that we APPRECIATE seeing spike heels and stockings again now that the cooler weather is upon us. BRAVO!! to the ladies and thanks for one of life's great pleasures.
