Too Well Worn Heel Tips

I bet this topic was discussed here already, can't find it in the top 20/30 though. I replaced heel tips many times myself, but it always becomes very tricky when the pin of the tips is pretty much all what's left and it "merged" with the rod its in. If I give such heels to a repair shop, they can always get it done quickly though. What trick is there I don't know yet how to get the pin out of the rod if you can't grab it with pliers anymore?

Drill and tap the pin and put a small bolt into it.

You mean you drill the rod open and just put another pin into it then? Guess you need to have a solid clamp for that.

And a drill press with a bit small enough so that it doesn't bite into the rod, only the old pin. Then tap threads into the old pin and install a small bolt to grasp the pin and pull straight out.

Accuracy and precision is a must or the shoe is toast. I wouldn't tackle it myself.
