  1. Hi everyone, Glad to have you on my friends list as well Sharon. Like you, I only add people I talk to onto my friends list. Megan, I see you got your avatar up, congrats! As for what brings me here, it is interesting lively conversation  It does look like you have a very lively group here. I do a lot of salsa in my spare time and thus I wear high heels a lot. Just like Sharon, I wear boots a lot as it is painful if someone steps on my on the dance floor in stiletto heels. Like Heidi, I wear padding inside my boots so dancing in heels is less tiring. However, unlike everyone else here, I am trying to stay dry in my boots, not get wet! LOL I am not sure if I fit into your little group here which is why I have been so quiet. Hanna

  2. After reading what Karen & Leigh said, I am beginning to wonder if I encountered something like this as well. One of my hobbies is dancing. I do salsa and some samba de gafieira. Dancing in heels is very tiring, so, like some others on the list here, dance in high heel boots with thick dancers tights to make my legs look flawless. After dancing, some of the male dancers almost seem too keen to get me out of my boots.

  3. Hi everyone, This is a very diverse, active group of people we have here. Let me see if I got everyone's fashion preference correct. Sharon - frequently wears knee high boots, trainers or pumps on rare occasions - loves high denier opaque tights - likes to go fully clothed into her own heated pool MeganIWish - likes pumps with colorful opaque tights - accidentally slips off pumps to step in wet puddles - not sure if catfish is dangerous  Sangue - wears sandals year round, even in cold weather - wears tights occassionally - enjoys discretely getting wet Jane - likes to wear peep toe pumps with bare legs - enjoys discretely getting wet - uses rainy days and puddles to her advantage Heidi - likes knee high boots with layered tights & thick socks - tights & socks are layering to make wearing heels more comfortable - likes her feet to stay hot, dry and covered up Alexa - likes gothic style high heels, pumps, sandals & boots - daring when it comes to getting wet Wyndi - lives in hot Texas, thus high heel sandals & bare legs are her style - likes to look pretty and play in the water with her sandals Did I get this about right?

  4. Good thing I've been creative and found a way to wear 3" heels all day :)

In fact, the current pair of 3" high heel boots I have had on for 12 hours straight already although I might need a quick change of socks if I am going to wear them for another extensive period of time .......

You know, if you want to try 4" or 5" heels, simply wear one with a platform and/or try wearing a few more layers of socks inside your boots. The good thing with wearing high heeled boots is that no one will know you are wearing so much padding so they usually are simply amazed that you can walk in them!

As a dancer, I know how very important padding is. They help prevent blisters and making dancing in heels that much more comfortable. Since you want to wear higher heels, simply add on another layer of pantyhose and thick socks. Be sure to buy your boots a size larger to accommodate the padding.

  5. Yes. I use socks while dancing, for the same purpose. It is a trade off between warmth and comfort.

Is anyone here serious about dancing?

I am heavily involved in the local dance scene. I do salsa, mambo, merengue, rumba, bachata, jive, tango as well as some samba. Between dance practice, socials and the occasional congress, I end up dancing a lot!

For a lot of the dances, you dance on the balls of your feet. You bounce on them a lot. I typically wear between 2" to 3" heels but when dancing for hours on end, the heels can exhaust me. Thus I dance in boots and I use layers of thick socks or layers of pantyhose to help lessen the strain on my ankles, knees and hips.

Villoria, Heidi, anyone else who dances, do you do that as well to alleviate the strain of heels for a long time?

Does anyone have any other tips for dancing in heels?

  6. There is going to be another grand ball this upcoming weekend at the Panorama Ballroom. It is a very elegant place that will be further decorated for the first ball of the summer. Although salsa is more my strong suite and this ball will feature dances like foxtrot, waltz, tango, cha cha, quick step, swing, I feel I can more then hold my own, especially for dances like the foxtrot, cha cha and quick step. After spending some time at the boutiques, I have selected a pink dress with black accents. It has an open back with a thick lace cinch at the waist and a long, free flowing skirt. I plan to dance very a very long time with a lot of the handsome young guys at the ball. To go with the nice dress and to give myself a good posture, I plan on wearing 3.5 inch heels. My question is, which pair of heels should I go with? 1) Guess knee high black boots with a thin heel. These boots are 1½ US size larger then my regular shoe size as I plan on wearing purple dancers pantyhose and two pairs of thick wool socks inside for padding. The boots themselves have a soft fur lining. I have had a shoesmith add on a suede sole on the bottom so these boots can glide on the dance floor. 2) Dance pumps with ankle strap. Round heel. These purple pumps are once again larger as I plan on wearing non-see through purple dancers pantyhose. Inside the pantyhose will be two pairs of thick socks for extra padding in these very high heels for dancing all night. Will my feet look fat if I wear these heels + padding? Also, these pumps don't have the fur lining so they won't have as good a padding as the boots but pumps are more popular for summer balls.

  7. Yes, I've been to the seaside in heels. Or rather, I'm usualy in platform boots with chunky heels. The biggest difficulty I have is with steep slopes of shingle, which are very hard to walk on. Once I'm on the sand I generally take my shoes off and run around barefoot.

When you are walking around the seaside in your warm, protective platform boots, your legs get used to the warmth and protectiveness of your boots. With the usual breeze found at most seashores, did you find your feet felt very exposed and cold the moment you took off your platform boots?

Today, I wore my knee high dress boots with stiletto heel to work today. I then wore them after work to dance practice, then to dinner with friends and then my dance partner came over to my place to practice the routines we learned in class for 30 minutes or so. After practice, he went home and I took off my thick, padded boots. Even though I still had two pairs of pantyhose on, my feet felt instantly cold! I almost immediately put my thick leather boots back on.

  8. I wear Boots all over the year, in cold winter as well as all the day in hot summer. I can't without.

Hey Melanie, during the warmer months, do you wear socks and pantyhose with your boots?

Let me guess, you also like boots because you can add a lot of padding inside so you can wear heels for long periods of time without getting tired?

  9. Thank you. Like yourself, I have done modern dance and a dash of mambo and rumba.

For people like you and I who not only need to walk but to dance in them, well, padding seems more like a necessity then a luxury. I too bring a spare pair of pantyhose or thick padded socks when I know I need to stand or dance for a significant period of time in heels. If it is a more formal event, I would usually go with multiple pairs of pantyhose under my high heeled boots. I also buy my certain boots a half size larger if I will be wearing layered pantyhose or one size larger if I will be wearing thick wool socks with pantyhose inside my boots. Then I know I can go all day or all night

The thing is, how to keep from getting too warm when wearing pantyhose and socks inside a pair of fur lined high heeled boots?

I agree, unlike some of the others here, we do not have the luxury to take off our heels when on the dance floor. I find that in order to accommodate the extra padding for dancing in high heels, I order my boots one size larger then my pumps. You should consider that too.

I attended the governors ball at the Grand Lincoln Ballroom recently. It was a huge event with the largest dance floor I have ever seen. Several of my friends from my dance class was there as well. I wanted to look good for this semi-formal event so I bought a new dark purple party dress with silver highlights. It has the cutest poof skirt I ever saw. The glitter in the dress really sparkles when exposed to a light source. I didn't have a pair of purple boots to match the outfit but I did have a pair of black leather knee high boots with a 3.5" heel. I wore that along with a pair of glittery purple pantyhose. I knew I was going to be dancing for a long time so inside my boots, I wore two pairs of thick wool socks for padding along with the pantyhose. 3.5 inch heel is very high for me but the padding worked and I managed to dance all night before going home and collapsing at 1am.

Just for the record, 3.5 inch heels are the highest I have ever tried and even two layers of wool socks and pantyhose was barely enough padding to allow 3 hours of stop and go dancing in such high heels! My legs were very warm though.

  10. What temperature do they set the air conditioning at in your office?

It is around 65F degrees outside but our office climate control is set to 70F year round. It is interesting how in January, with our office climate control at a set 70F, women will wear thick turtleneck sweaters with wool skirts, pantyhose and high heeled boots to work while in July, with the temperature at 70F, women will wear halter tops, the thinnest cotton skirts you can imagine and flip flops to work.

Today, I have on a crisp white top with a darker color silk blend skirt. On my legs I have on two pairs of skin tone pantyhose to prevent runs and a pair of tan, almost skin tone knee high leather boots with a thin heel. It almost looks like I have on a white top, a dark skirt and nothing else because my pantyhose and boots are skin tone and without a close up inspection, it looks like my legs are bare.

Do you guys think this look is too sexy for the office?

  11. It does take time to learn to walk in heels as it is not the natural human gait. Dancing requires a different set of more advanced skills when compared to walking thus the difficulty level is even higher. Dances such as tango, cha cha, waltz, rhumba, foxtrot, swing and lambada have moves which require significant spinning, stabilizing and directing shift on a dime skills. Such skills require a lot of time to acquire, especially when done on tall heels. You might want to try these skills wearing sneakers or flats first if you have not already done so.

I can see you are knowledgeable about dancing. :)

The good thing is that I am able to do all my dance moves in heels, the challenge is to not let the heels tire me out when dancing for a significant amount of time.

Many dancers use a lot of padding to offset doing all these moves in heels. Gel pad inserts are common as are using padded boots to hide thick nylons and several layers of thick socks to cushion the tall heels. I like your idea of wearing fur lined boots as the fur lining will provide excellent padding on top of what your thick socks and dancers pantyhose give you. The three layers combined should be a lot of padding. I will try the fur lined boots, thick socks and thick dancers pantyhose when I go dancing in 3" heels as well.

I find the more padding I wear when dancing for a long time, the less tired I am. This is not only me. Many other girls in my dance class have come to the exact same conclusion.

The past weekend, my friends and I attended a social dance with others from my dance class. It was great fun, there was a live band, the dance floor was spacious, drinks were reasonably priced and there were a lot of guys to dance with. I had a lot of fun practising the dances we learned in class and incorporating new moves I learned from my dance partners.

I had started out dancing in my black knee high fur lined boots with 3" heel. I had on pantyhose and one pair of wool socks. My feet started to get tired and it got a little painful after dancing for 2 hours. I did not want to leave yet as I was having a great time. I got my spare pair of wool socks out from my purse, layered it on over my pantyhose and first pair of wool socks and squished my fur lined high heel boots back on. Dancing in heels now was less painful with so much padding although it got a bit warm. Maybe next time I should buy my boots a half size larger to accommodate the padded socks and pantyhose I need for dancing?

  12. Thank you for the warm welcome Bubba. I am surprised to hear that there are more males then females on this message board. The other discussion forums I visit, be it purses, dresses, jackets, business suits, jewellery, perfumes, makeup, etc all are dominated by females. Perhaps males such as Calvin Klein, Marc Jacob, Giorgio Armani, Tommy Hilfiger are all on this message board? :)

  13. After reading some of the posts by the other girls here, I have to say I am duly impressed. So many people here are able to walk in 5" heels and keep them on for very long periods of time. How do you do it without tiring and / or injuring yourself? Is there some sort of workout you do for your ankles, calves and knees? One of my favorite hobbies is dancing. I have many dresses which I bought specifically for dancing. It is very common for people to wear 3 inch heels when doing dances like the tango. Naturally, I tried wearing 3 inch heels for tango as well but I get exhausted pretty quickly. My dance instructor suggested I get additional padding so my joints and muscles do not get so tired when dancing for hours at a time. After a lot of searching, I found a pair of black BCBG boots that are knee high with a side zipper. It has a thick fur lining inside which is excellent padding. It has a small platform and a thin but relatively stable high heel which I think looks very elegant. I wear thick dancers pantyhose as well as a pair of thick socks inside the high heeled boot for additional padding. Now I am able to dance for a lot longer in the heels without getting tired since I have three layers of padding, thick pantyhose, thick socks and a fur lining. I try to wear heels to work everyday to get used to walking in high heels without getting exhausted too quickly. If the pair of heels I wear to work has a 3" or higher heel, I still would wear a pair of fur lined dress boots with thick socks and dancers pantyhose for padding. If the heels I wear is between 2" to 3" I can get away with just leather boots with a gel insert and pantyhose. If the heel is 2" or less, I can wear pumps or boots. Is this a common problem? How did others manage to wear 5" heels all day if you have to walk?

  14. Any girls still like to wear platform heels?

I really love platforms because they make me taller plus they allow me to get away with wearing a higher heel.

It looks really nice when it looks like I am able to walk in a 5" heel when in fact it is a 3" platform supporting it.

  15. I haven't had much experience, but once or twice you do end up stepping into that deceptively deep puddle, thinking "it'll be ok, I've an elevated heel, I won't get wet." Big mistake. Of course there are always those times when you get splashed by idiot drivers. Had that once when I was wearing heeled boots and it ran down my leg and down the boot shaft. I was rather annoyed, especially when it got to my toes because it made a rather obvious squishing noise. GAH, stupid drivers!

A driver drove through a deep puddle and slashed so much water on you that there sufficient water slashed onto your legs and slid into the shaft of your boots? Ouch! What kind of boots were you wearing where water could get in through the top?

I hope this was not at the start of your day like getting slashed and all wet on your way to an 8.5 hour work day! What did you do to dry yourself?

I really deteste getting my feet wet with a passion. Almost all the dress boots I buy are waterproof leather although I did get weak and ended up buying several pairs of designer knee high suede boots with heels that are very comfortable, flexible enough for dancing but not very waterproof. I avoid wearing those boots out when there is a lot of water outside due to rain.

  16. I used to crave the big brands that you see Hollywood stars wear. Brands like Jimmy Choos, DKNY, Prada, Gucci but now as I am no longer a teenager, I find I like practical over big name brand. Miss Sixty, Jessica Simpson, Chinese Laundry, Anne Klein, Gabriella Rocha, Ecco are now finding their way into my wardrobe a lot more then the pricier more glamorous brands. Is this happening to anyone else as well?

  17. Hi everyone, My name is Hanna, I live in the United States and like many girls across the world, I too read a lot of fashion magazines that report on everything from couture, vintage to vogue styles. Some people like to collect stamps, some guys collect baseball cards, some girls like to collect diamonds, I like to collect items of clothes that look good. Couture is my preferred style although vintage and vogue are styles I like too. I have many dresses, leather jackets, dresses and of course high heels. One of my hobbies is dancing. Now a guy can wear the same set of clothes each and every time on the dance floor and no one will find it odd. Girls need to and in my case like to have many different outfits and different style of heels for the dance floor. Since this forum is about heels, let me talk about it. I like to wear between a 2.5 inch to 5 inch heel for dancing. Of course anything above a 3 inch heel also has a platform. My knee, calf and ankle muscles are not made of steel so I do get tired quickly when dancing for hours on end. Ditto if I am walking around a shopping mall for any length of time in high heels. I was wondering how others deal with this issue? Do others here wear heels for dancing, shopping, work or to other places where you need to stand or walk a lot? How do you deal with the issue of strain? Since this is a forum that is all about heels, I am guessing that there might be some heel manufacturers here, perhaps lurking and seeing what styles or improvements girls want? Does anyone know of any active companies here? BCBG, Jimmy Choo, DKNY to name but a few? What brands do others here like? Does anyone have a favorite heel manufacturer? I look forward to talking and meeting everyone here as we chat more in the forums. Hanna
