  1. Walkonit I quite agree with the distinction between UK and US girls, I have seen much less evidence of walking on the nails in the US (although I have seen it!) It just doesn't seem to occur to UK girls that there is anything wrong with the nails being exposed -there isn't in my opinion, and I do accept I "may" be in the minority!- I remember having a discussion a few years ago with a female friend of mine about her heels. She was a stunningly beautiful girl, about 23 years old at the time, great body, and was always perfectly turned out afer hours of getting ready, hair and clothes and make up and everything else perfect, except her heels! She wore 2 pairs of boots mostly at that time, a black pair and a brown pair, both stiletto heels. Both pairs hadn't seen a heel tip in years, the black pair had the leather peeled right up the outside of the heel and the dirty white plastic showing for about an inch and half at the bottom and the nails really visible. She was in my house one night (which had soft wood floors) and was wearing the black boots. I asked her about the heels and their condition. She told me the reason she wore stilettos was to make her tall, and to look and sound sexy as she walked. She was not concerned about the condition or appearence of the heel in the slightest as she said the heels were mostly covered by her long jeans. She did remark how sharp the nails were though, and then lifted her foot to show me the nail - and told me she was probably going to wreck my floor with them. She never took them off, and walked and stood all night on the floor in them. True story. Nailheels

  2. Hi Shafted Softwood floors are generally varnished pine - not sure where you live, but where I am, it was the trend a few years ago to remove carpet, sand the floorboards (usually pine or similar) and varnish them. It looked really cool and I've had 3 houses like this. This is what I meant by any stiletto heel will damage them - even brand new shoes out of the box with plastic tips would leave a significant mark. Exposed nails of course would punch right into the floor - but it just kinda happened - young girls 18-22 would never even dream of reheeling stilettos here. I remember nights in our house when friends would come round for a party and invariably the majority of the girls would be have exposed nails on their stiletto shoes and boots. My own girlfriend at the time wore all her heels with the nails permanently exposed. Personally, I don't see any issue with it, but I guess I'm in the minority!

  3. Get your facts straight please? Take a chill pill buddy / budette ! ALL stiletto heels damage floors! I've been watching heels for years! Plastic tips may not mark hardwood floors but they will permanently mark softwood. Yes the nail sinks deeper (especially with 16 stone on it in my girlfriends case

  4. Not reheeling stilettos does not ruin them, nor does it shorten their life - my girlfriend never reheeled her stilettos and was able to wear them for months and years with the nails exposed and they still looked fine. All stilettos damage floors - heels with metal tips are very severe on wooden floors too - so it makes no difference if a girl walks on the nails and it would certainly not bother me if she walked or stood or danced on my floor!

  5. Hi pussyinboots - Sorry if I caused offence, I didn't mean to - I was only making an observation. Where I live, I am quite confident in saying (from personal knowledge) that the VAST MAJORITY of girls aged 17-25 do not replace their heel tips and walk for the life of the shoe or boot on the heel nails. Yes maybe it's cheap or lazy or slovenly as you say, but none the less its a fact. Personally, I like it - but please don't jump down my throat for this opinion - each to their own surely? It also was not a sexist comment - again it was my opinion and observation as a stiletto heel fanatic! Regards, Spaceinvader

  6. I realise I'm going to be the lone voice here, but I think it's somehow sexy to see a girl in stilettos with stickers still on them or part of the stickers still there. No-one will really notice only people like us who "shoe watch" so I think it makes no difference, but personally I don't have a problem with it. It shows a girl loves the shoes so much, she just had to wear them immediately, and never bothered taking the stickers off!!

  7. "which puts the responsibility back where it belongs" That's a bit OTT isn't it? Should all girls be wearing flat lace up shoes? Wearing grey clothes? Showing no skin? Let the girls climb up on their stilettos, dress sexily, enjoy their stilettos and wear them as an expression of their sexuality. By the nature of heels this thin, the tips will wear and come off. If the girl chooses not to reheel them, but walks on the inner nail, however damaging this may be, it is not a crime. It is not a sin, however many weeks or months she continues to wear them for with the nails exposed. She still looks sexy and feels sexy. "Responsibility" does not come into it. Just my opinion!

  8. Hmm somewhere in between I think, I wouldn't go so far as to say get a life but... Stiletto heels do damage to floors = fact. Vast majority of younger girls wear stilettos down to the nails and never reheel them = fact Don't try and get too much into the psyche of these girls - it just happens, they don't "intend" to damage floors, they just wear their stilettos and damage happens. I'm quite sure if you asked them to remove the heels, they would. Personally (as the owner of 2 trashed floors from exposed stiletto nails) I like it - it adds character and tells stories of many good nights in our house. I've seen girls come through my front door with peeled up stiletto heels and nails exposed and neither me or my girlfriend would dream of asking them to remove their boots. They walk, they stand, they dance, they punch holes and scratch the floor and do damage. So what? They didn't think beforehand that they shouldn't wear those heels in case they did damage - they just wore them - no big deal in my book. Nailheels

  9. Hi Jay No my gf has not slipped over when wearing her nail heels, though she does fall over a lot anyway, but not because of her heels. She has slid forward unintentionally on tiled floors and in shopping centres all right, they seem to be the most slippy floors. Usually when she steps off the metal runway of the escalators and on to the polished floor she slides a bit, but overall she walks really well in them. She has no problem at all in walking in them, she has had so much practice! She once went for 10 consecutive days wearing stiletto heels with the nails exposed! She wears them to work, out at night, whatever. She has 2 pairs of boots with 3 inch stiletto heels, one pair of boots with 4 inch heels and a pair of stiletto shoes with 4 inch heels, all on nails at the moment. The 4 inch boots are really special - the material of the heel is the peeling type, and is peeled back up the heel - the nails are amazing on these boots, they are only 1.8mm diameter and protrude 4mm out from the base of the heel - she will literally punch holes in anything when she wears them. What sort of shoes does your colleague have? Does she do any damage with them or is she careful? Does she keep her shoes/boots clean or does she not bother? Have you discussed her nail heels at all? Keep in touch! Spacey

  10. That's really interesting, another like minded person! That must be brilliant, seeing a girl you work with wear nail heels all the time, how do you do any work?? Do you speak to her about her heels at all? Is she aware that the nails are exposed do you think? My girlfriend also wears stiletto heels with the nails exposed. She walks very lazily and grinds the plastic tips off in no time at all. She has never had a pair of heels repaired, she currently has 4 pairs of stiletto boots with the nails exposed. She wears them for months and months, irrespective of the damage to the heels or the damage she does to floors or whatever she walks on. 2 of her favourite pairs that she wears all the time, have had the nails exposed for well over a year now. She did say it was hard to walk on them at first because they were slippy, but says now she has mastered walking in them, she isn't bothered! I have pics if anyone wants to see them! Cheers Spacey

  11. Anyone else any views on this? I am observing many, many girls walking the streets that are not bothering to replace the heel tips, choosing to walk on purely the exposed heel nail forever. Personally, I think this is pretty fantastic. Anyone agree/disagree? Spacey

  12. When you wear your thin heels down so that the plastic tip falls off, exposing the heel nail, do you: a- stop wearing them / throw them out b- stop wearing them until you can get them repaired c- wear them less until you get them repaired d- carry on wearing them regardless If you do get them repaired, do you replace the plastic tips or have steel tips fitted? If you don't bother repairing them, is there any reason? I'd love to hear your thoughts!! Spacey
