  1. 2nd January is a bank holiday, isn't it? Seems like a good day to see if I can do better than 4km in 4". Anybody else fancy meeting up in Oxford Street or thereabouts?

If that sounds too much like hard work, I'm open to suggestions such as a quiet glass of wine or two instead.

    Anyone? J_

  2. I thought Aussies were all the butch farmer types, maybe that's the reason for the preference for boots? Hopefully you're not talking Uggs!

Let us know what type of heels you want to buy? I'd suggest something like a T-bar or with a strap if you're not used to the slipon type just yet.

    Goog luck buying.

Don't think Uggs come with 11cm heels. Wouldn't mind a pair if they did though!

If I lived anywhere near the antipodes I'd probably look up "Mollini" on e-bay once a day and buy once a week. Zepan's album is worth checking out for other brand names.

  3. I got used to wearing heels when I was in my 20's, and still had the legs for short skirts etc. Usually wear men's slacks these days but still find heels that much more comfortable - big arch and narrowish heels, so flatties generally fit in all the wrong places. Wish I could heel more often, but don't want to embarrass the younger members of the family.

  4. Elegant

"Strange" for a guy maybe, if . . . doubt you'll look back.

Seriously, Elegant, you should give it a go. It is possible to experiment without spending a fortune. I recently picked up a basic underbust under £40, which does make a dent in a week's wages, but is still less than a good pair of jeans.

Even with a low-budget corset it doesn't take all that long to turn a 34-30-35 (which, with something to bulk out a bosom, comes out at 39-30-35 - silly shape) into a 31-27-38 for 10-12 hours a day. Not that you should rush things or anything, but so far the only real hassle I've had is replacing a broken lace. AFAIK Fairy Gothmother are the only retailer in London that sell them. Check out the health risks and timescales for permanent changes and go for it.

  5. I'm a UK 7.5. My absolute favourites are knee-high black leather boots with 4" - 5" stiletto heels and short pointed toes, although I have recently developed a liking for a slightly thicker heel and an almond toe.

I'm still searching for the perfect pair of boots!

Fancy starting a club for 1/2-sizers? Not that it matters, I've got or have had shoes in 6.5, 7, 41 ie large 7, 41 ie small 8 and 8 and they've all more-or-less fit. Can't work out if it's some wierd variant on vanity sizing or if the ridiculously wide heels on UK-market shoes make the difference.

  6. Shoe sizes really do vary, don't they? Size UK 8 or, when they exist, 7.5. That's about a Euro 41, US 9-10 I think. Styles . . . ooh . . . anything with a 4" - 5" heel really. Favourite pair ever are two pairs of ?1980s? Mollinis - sort of open-sided courts but with an ankle strap, one pair in dark maroon and one in mushroom. Ankle boots, open sandals (wish I had nicer nails though), courts. Last pair I picked up are suede ankle boots in a patchwork of contrasting browns, 4.25 inch heels. Look best with light-coloured jeans. Keep thinking about OTKs or thighboots but can't make up my mind between comfort (3" upward heel) and style (flat). Don't often see girls going for the heel option so if I do bite the bullet I'll probably go low and live with walking like a duck. Have to wait until I'm back in permanent work anyway, so could be a while . . .

  7. Hey Spikester, as long as I've been a member of this forum, it has been customary for a newly registered member to sign in and introduce themselves and tell others about their interest in high heels -- which some people just don't do. I for one, am not willing to extend a "wholehearted welcome to anyone that just drops in and tell us if they "like it" they'll buy it. It is up to us to like them and, based on their entry introduction, decide if they fit in here.

So, if you are referencing my remarks to your countryman, why not let him know that if he's really interested in this forum, and wants to contribute in a positive manner, that he might introduce himself for all to get to know.

Sincere apologies for any breach of board etiquette. I assumed Nikniknik meant new to being part of a forum, rather than new to an enthusiasm for heels. Promise to keep my puppies of enthusiasm on a shorter leash in future.

  8. Mickey and I were both enjoying life and jobs, her 26 and I 33, and after meeting something clicked like a stiletto heel. Maybe it was hers. After 41 years and still counting we are still here. Life happens when you are looking for something else.

    Cheers---

    Dawn HH

Wise words . . . I met a selection of potential SOs over the years, but things didn't fall into place until I was about your age, give or take.

May sound a bit drastic, but have you thought about moving to the mainland for a while? Roots are important, but so's the occasional re-potting, if that's the word.

  9. not too used to all this but ill give it a go and hopefully be accepted :smile:

    Hi Nikniknik

If you mean you're not used to these interwebby flogs and borums or whatever they're called you're not the only one. Get the impression that most people here are kind of keen on accepting.

    So tell us about yourself . . . and your heels . . .

  10. Music, huh? Not anywhere near Melbourne myself, wrong hemisphere entirely, but I thought I'd pick up on the mention of metal anyway. Are we talking Black Sab through Metallica here or Sum 41 era? Also vinyl - the attraction being? Nostalgic attachment to scratches & pops doesn't seem likely, is it the better sound quality you get from properly cared-for discs? My collection (mix of SACDs, CDs and some vinyl) ranges from Tallis and Byrd through Arcade Fire and Florence & The Machine. Oh, and on-topic . . . any poster in the UK can probably see the green glow of envy over this end of the district line . . . I swear one day I'm going to emigrate over there just to get my hands on some Mollini heels without worrying about import taxes. You fortunate antipodean you!!!

  11. I don't heel at work, or often outside, but wear tights (and socks, grrr) all winter anyway. Firstly because they're warm. Secondly because I like to. And thirdly because if I see a pair of shoes or a skirt I want to try on it's good to be prepared! M&S ladder resist or any 40 -60 denier opaques.

  12. Love charity shops. Just bought some patchwork leather ankle boots (contrasting browns) with a 4-inch heel. Touch big - 41s seem to vary a bit, but at £15 I think I can afford some socks to pad them out. Also got some black wedges from Clarks, excellent value but a bit dull.
