  1. Prince has been wearing heels since the mid-70s (about the time he got signed to his record deal). He started wearing the platform/block men's heels. He later moved to the men's zip up boots with about a 3 in heel (look at the Little Red Corvette video). By the time he did Purple Rain, he had the money to get custom heels made. He still wears the same style heels even today. In recent years, he has started wearing some platform "moon" boots. He started wearing them around 2004 during the Musicology tour. He still wears them off-and-on, but still sports his pumps.

  2. 2/19/2011:

Despite some dreadfully blustery and chilly weather today, I decided to head out on a jaunt as I was itching to perch myself on some heels and have fun. Here's today's outfit:

A brand new faux leather jacket with biker-like styling that I bought from JCPenney for $19.99 over a red turtleneck, Gloria Vanderbilt jeans and my trusty Pleaser 8868 "Legend" thigh high boots along with black leather gloves. My first stop of the day was downtown to my favorite comic book shop that I frequent, and here's where I had a humorous little experience. Just as I got out of the car and headed to the nearby kiosk for a parking pass, a middle aged Latino fellow staggered past, even though it was barely noon, I could smell the booze on the guy as it was evident that he drank his lunch. Here's the humor, the guy stopped turned around, stared at me in utter confusion, then staggered up to me, pointing at my boots. He muttered something to me in Spanish while still pointing, but my Spanish was nonexistent, so I shrugged and said "No habla Espanol." He pointed again, then shrugged himself and staggered off. Talk about a weird experience.

After a good twenty or so minutes in the store buying the latest and greatest comics, I left and headed around the corner for a nearby convenience store to buy a newspaper, two black women, looking to be about my age, coming the other way, smiled broadly, waved to me and complimented me on my boots, saying they looked sharp and that they looked great on me. I smiled and thanked them for the kind words. Ahh! Nothing like a compliment about a guy's high heels to make him feel damn good inside! Obviously those women had excellent taste! From there, I headed off into South Jersey and the Barnes & Noble bookstore near the Moorestown Mall where I had a light snack with a mug of hot tea, roamed the aisles, bought a couple of magazines and was otherwise treated just like any other customer, despite standing head and shoulders over practically everyone else in the the place. I can't tell you how much I enjoy the atmosphere in bookstores.

My last stop of the day was to Best Buy where I spent nearly an hour wandering the aisles of electronic and digital goodness, sat in a home theater recliner with my feet up so everyone could see the boots while I watched some college hoops, then went to the register with Sherlock, the BBC 3 episode miniseries that reimagined Sherlock Holmes in 21st century London, something I've been dying to watch. All in all, it was a delightful outing where I got to wear my favorite boots and loved every minute of the experience!

I have the same jacket in brown. :-)

    Nice look, Jeff.

  3. Roni: In my opinion it was more important that you approached, were nice to, and made friends with the person then getting your language 100% correct. For me intent can make up for any little mistakes :)

I agree, Jim. From his post, it doesn't seem like they took it in a bad way. Come on, they did become friends and decided they would have a java together. :-D

  4. Thanx, Shark. You just gave me a lot of encouragement. I'm in the same boat you were in. I still haven't purchased myself a pair of heels yet. Thanks so much for the tip about Famous Footwear's site. I now know what size (approximately) i wear in a women's shoe. Do you mind me asking what size of shoe do you wear in mens?

  5. My wife is one, but she doesn't go door to door. More friends and family. Not exactly making a fortune doing it.

I met a guy who is doing it (who's link I originally posted). He told me he is trying to make his an online business, but hasn't been very successful at it.
  6. Welcome to hhplace, cowboyboots :pulsingheart: Nice to have you joining us. I wonder why Avon decided to carry a line of footwear? I like the style that you pointed out. But, for the most part, the others pictured don't really appeal to me nor would I think appeal to most members because they're low heeled or flat styles.

Thanks for your input and we are looking forward to making your acquaintance.

Thanx, Bubba. It's a pleasure to meet u also. I did a little surfing on the site and some of u have some great collections and have more guts than I do. I have worn the clunky heels before out in public, but have never had the nerve to wear any major heels out in public. I applaud u guys.

From what I've read on the site, some of the people here have a lot of the same issues I have.

Back to the topic at hand (I don't want to be a hijacker :-D), I really considered ordering a few pair of shoes from Avon, but just realized they don't come in my size. I have a hard time finding size 13 heels that don't look "cheap" to me.

  7. Hello everyone. I'm new around here and wanted to say hello first of all.

I recently learned that Avon sold shoes. Some of them are really nice heels. Not all of them are available in my size, but I am considering purchasing a pair of their shoes.

I was just wondering if any of you had purchased any of their shoes before?

    I kind of like these.
