  1. Yep, been a lovely 15-20C for a couple of weeks now, and I and the women in the office have all been remarking how lovely to break out our open-toed shoes.

On the other hand, I got a small amount of flack when I wore them when I went to work in the machine shop! lol

  2. I cycle to work each day.  Well, my cycle is electric so there's not actually all that much pedaling involved; should I say "I sit on a bicycle to work each day"? <smile>

And I do so in heels, if heels I am wearing.

But frankly my bike is so attention getting, and coupled with the fact that I dislike the wind in my eyes so I wear steampunk motoring goggles, I suspect that passersby are looking at anything BUT my shoes!

Ah, the privileges of being a mad scientist!

  3. Thank you for the kind welcome.  With regard to the facts, I am a university professor (Engineering.)

This week I wore my stilettos much of the week.  They are Pleasers in a size 13 and they fit very nicely and are very comfortable.  I found them in a freecycle bin in New Orleans, and they were almost fetish wear due to the height of the heel.  But a visit to the machine shop reduced the heel to about 2-3 inches and a very comfortable stride for me.

My #1 daughter seems to quite enjoy buying heels for Dad, so I receive a pair of Nine Wests or similar on each holiday or birthday.  She has excellent taste and I quite look forward to her choices.  Unfortunately the Christmas blue ones were too small and we have not yet replaced them...nice to have a present "banked and waiting!"

My favorite shoes are a pair of block heel wing tips from Payless.  My colleagues when I started wearing them at school refer to them as my Flamenco dancer shoes - <smile>

All the best to all hands,

    Chris

  4. I am normally silent, but perhaps I'll just chime in here as a "just do it" voice.

I wear high heels every day.  Nobody cares.  I normally choose a block heel, but I do occasionally wear stilettos.  In warm weather i choose open toes or strappy sandals, usually with about a 2" heel.

My point is: Nobody cares.  I had a few comments when I started this job, but now a year later nothing.  They're just shoes, eh?

Perhaps my situation is unique.  Perhaps my colleagues are more tolerant than most.  But try it, you might be pleasantly surprised.

  5. Haven't actually bought 'em yet - just a couple of clicks away...

These are for my "Father of the Bride" ensemble at my daughter's wedding. A charcoal skirt to about 3-inches below the knee, a black shirt and black tuxedo jacket, yellow bow tie.

Groom will be in grey and black. Groomsmen in all black. Bridesmaids in yellow.

Daughter (bride) and her man picked out my skirt and approved the ensemble, just didn't have the right shoes to go with it...until I found these.

    Woo hoo!

  6. Yep, must not be very common! I was out on Sunday wearing a nice gentleman's suit paired with a pair of black patent-leather 3-inch stilleto booties. I turned so many heads it was amazing! Now, for context, I do often go out here in New Orleans wearing skirts, and I was surprised to find that the subtle presence of the high heels was perhaps more surprising to folks than my skirts are! Nobody actually said anything, of course, just lots of double takes and so forth.

  7. Oh don't I understand! ;) Right on! Have spent many a work day sitting wearing whatever-the-heck-I-want while working from a home office. Unfortunately today I am at the 'regular' office wearing slacks and Oxfords. (They can't see my underwear can they?) Although yesterday I wore a favorite pair of two-piece pumps. They were originally a little too high heeled for my taste so I modified them in the machine shop to be about 2" heel. I got one comment at work, I just told him "Gotta keep people on their toes" which he accepted just fine. Have a successful tool-designing day! Chris

  8. One of the 'rules' that works well for me is: "Only give them one shock at a time." Alternatively worded: "Only one item 'out of place' at a time." By this I mean that if you wear heels, then don't on that day also wear your most outrageous shirt, or earrings, or skirt, or whatever. Look your most conservative everywhere except below the ankles. And then see: Do you in fact get ANY reactions? Do you hear about it at work? You can always laugh it off as "Well, I just always wonderd and thought I'd give it a go..." To put this in perspective, let me state that I too am a consultant, in the US Defense industry. I quite understand your concern to not alienate any clients! Best wishes, Chris

  9. I think I will start asking clerks if they have other male customers buying shoes for themselves while I am out shopping this summer. Kind of an informal survey. Though I have been trying to devise a survey method to make it more scientific, but still haven't thought that through yet.

That is an excellent idea! Thanks for the suggestion - I will do the same (if I can remember ;) )

  10. I should perhaps add that I am an engineer and a bit of an amateur cobbler. I have several pairs which were bought with heels too high for my taste, and were successfully modified by me to a lower height (make a stiletto into a kitten heel, approximately). I look forward to participating in those conversations as well.

  11. Hi - Newbie here. I just wandered in from skirtcafe.org, down the street. I have recently added heels to my wardrobe. I seem to prefer the classic two-piece pump style, and slingback styles. I have only two or three pair of heels (depending on what you count as a "heel".) I do wear only shoes from the women's department, as I find them lighter and far more stylish than shoes from the gent's department. I avoid wearing heels with a skirt, as then it sends the message 'crossdresser' (except of course on Mardi Gras when I AM crossdressing! ;) ) So you will see me either in a skirt or in trousers and heels. If you see me in the streets of the French Quarter say hi! Chris
