  1. Rubber corks are horrendous, and destructive to the environment. Corks allow a wine to age through the controlled ingress of air. Screw caps are great for fresh or fragrant wines. Grapes like Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot noir work well with screwcap.

  2. Sorry I don't post much, but the topic of wine, missed first time round, aroused my interest.

Good wine usually ages well. Some wines need to be aged. Try a good Barolo which is less than ten years old, and you'll be chewing on a wall of tannin. Try the same wine after 20 years, and it will be sublime. The same applies to left bank Bordeaux and other similarly strapping wines made from small grapes (Nebbiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvèdre to name but three).

Of course, many wines are best drunk young. Most wines under £10/ US$15, certain white wines, and the lighter reds. Screw cap wines offer greater reliability (far less cork taint), but they do not age in the same way so they are not a complete solution. Sorry for the cork blamed delay in your shoes, but we wine lovers need our aged wine fix!

  3. My goodness, no. He is a well known comedian, celebrity, and latterly, political figure if not politician.

(Sorry, I don't post much, but JeffB will know me from Skirtcafe).

  4. Shaving definitely gives a good look but I can understand if a particularly hairy guy doesn't want to keep it up; it can't be easy. I have been bare legged (in the hairy sense) for about 12 years now but for me it's easy; there never was much hair in the first place! I get few, if any, reactions and have got to the point where I forget about the issue altogether. Nobody really cares, and if someone does press the question, I respond "I've evolved! I'm further removed from the apes than you are!". That usually gets a few laughs.

  5. I was 30, had split up with a gf partly because she couldnt handle my wearing hosiery and I was in a "damn the world" mood brought on by that fact and the discovery of fashion freedom men on the Internet. So I bought a pair of 3 inch heels for £30 by mail order which complemented the rapidly increasing number of skirts I was accumulating. I wore skirts tights and heels around my flat to the surprise of my two flatmates. Always male from the waist up and always with what I would call masculine skirts. I'm more stable now! The heels are long gone - worn out!

  6. I wear kilts - easy, being Scottish - albeit with doc Martens! I also wear sarongs, but only on the beach. This time, it's sandals. Oh dear, not much of a heel thing here! I'm happy with the principle, and having seen people like JeffB do his stuff, it's something guys can do without looking female (in the same way that a woman can wear trousers without ever losing her female appearance).

  7. Great choice Ray!

    Thanks, Denise (& Daniel).

The heels have an interesting little piece of elastic at the back of the shoe, where the shoe might otherwise dig into the achilles tendon. It acts to keep the shoe on the foot without the associated discomfort of the shoe digging in. A nice feature.

The relative solidity of the heel does make it easier than some to get used to, although it's by some margin the thinnest heel I have come across. Next do appear to have quite a good selection of shoes, and in big sizes (9/43/US11).

  8. I've not really posted much here since joining, but here goes. Yesterday, I bought only my fourth pair of heels, but they are a touch more racy and high(!) than any I have bought in the past. Sorry about the long link (below) but I haven't worked out how to reduce this!

Anyway, they are surprisingly comfortable - and at an angle that it's going to take me a while to get used to. I like them though!

  9. Hi, I'm Ray, and I'm an alcoholic. Damn. Wrong forum. Hi, I'm Ray, and I am an occasional heel wearer and fashion freedom fighter. I've looked in on this place for quite a while, but I'm not quite as much into heels as most of you. Still, they do make one's legs look terrific, so maybe I should indulge more! I'm based near Manchester; used to be Aberdeen. It's warmer in Manchester! I'll contribute where I can, and positively. Cheers
