  1. Um, I hate to say this but there is always a possiblity that these things could be everyday wear. Just think, all you need is for some designer to get some rich celeb to wear them and voila! everybody will be wearing them. Its not about functionality, its about what celebs wear and we all know what their tastes can be like.

  2. There was one held in Johannesburg last year, only it was called "sisters with blisters". I dont know how successful it was but some male radio personalities were going to do it but discovered that it was almost impossible to get large sized heels (Something I have known for years).

  3. Greetings.... It's been a long while since I was here and what a surprise I had to see the "new look" (its a new look to me at any rate). Congrats to all involved and responsible. I did post an intro a few years back I seem to recall, but its been awhile so I shall do a shortish one again. Middle aged male from South Africa who has always been a fan of heels (wearing and seeing). I bought my first pair of heels (they were wedges actually) in 1980 and have bought and purged on countless occasions since then. I have not done the surreptitious sneak around in the dead of night since 1997, its just become too dangerous to go out at night, even in conventional drab footwear. I still have most of my heels but nowadays only seem to get enjoyment out of my mary jane school shoes which I have always enjoyed. My shoe size borders on just a tad too large for ladies and nothing available in mens. Its a pity because there are some really stunning shoes coming out although nothing will ever convince me of the beauty of those 'orrible pointy shoes that seem to be all the rage (or those crummy ponpon's). Once again I do hope to bump into some of my fellow South Africans. I doubt whether there would be any female ones here. But, I live in hope.

  4. I admit when I used to own a house many years back I used to regularly go for a stroll around the block in my heels, I chose times when it was unlikely for too many people to be up and about. Usually I wore jeans so that it wasnt too noticeable, although the noise would have been obvious miles away. The only real scare I had one evening/morning was when I went around a different block and went past a house where some guy was sitting on the stoep and his dog dashed out and yapped all around my ankles. Unusually for me I wasnt wearing jeans that day but shorts with heels! Needless to say that dog was like a large flashing signpost! I didnt walk past that house again thats for sure.

  5. That article was interesting, and everybody except for shoe stockists seem to have known about it for years. However, one sentence caught my eye, and I thought it was somewhat ironic.

"Alexa Manuel, a 6-foot-4-inch 13-year-old from Eden Prairie, Minn., says she hasn't found shoes -- in size 15 -- to wear to church in years. She says she's embarrassed to shop for sneakers and sandals in the men's department. "Especially at my age," she says, "all girls really want to do is just fit in.""

Lol, I wonder if anybody in the gents she dept bats an eye because she is shopping there, or calls her dereogatory names because she is wearing mens shoes? and I guess we would all agree with the sentiment about "fitting in"

  6. Blimey, I have seen used paint rags which look better than those green things, who is designing this stuff? or better yet, who is wearing it? I suppose tho, if there is some fancy designer lable on it somebody will pay huge amounts of money for them. One of these days somebody is going to sell old coke cans with holes in them and call them shoes... just wait for the rush to buy them

  7. I seem to recall reading once that it was a wedding tradition, although dont ask me which culture or religion, it was supposed to be done at the reception. I dont recall what the poor bride must feel like with a sticky wet foot or what to do if she is wearing sandals. I cant find any reference to it either, so it may be heresay too, and only done in certain countries. Did find an article which mentioned it as a tradition at a certain newspaper...

  8. I grew up in a totally metric society and never even learnt about inches and lbs and oz's. But I can visualise inches much better than cm's even though I have never worked with them. If people ask me how tall I am I could tell them in imperial only. Its quite odd when I think about it. Maybe because cm's are such a small unit of measurement its just more difficult to relate it to the real world. Unfortunately they are easier to work with, as is the whole metric system, but then I grew up with it.. I assume anybody who grew up with imperial says the same thing about the imperial system

  9. Wow.. those are... er.. wel.. very equine? lol, I am curious how they feel long term because there are quite a few pony girls who go around clippety clopping in them and lugging thumping great carts around too. I must admit I like the look of them, although not really a boot or ballet boot fan at all. Gee.. thank goodness we will never see them in South Africa, the temptation would be huge. Hi-ho Silverrrrrrrrrrrrrr awaaaaaaaaaaay!!

  10. In my case it had to be my first pair... it was an unforgettable experience to take those first unknown steps and boldly go where none of my friends would ever dream of going. In fact, if I could redo it all over again I wold have walked further and experiemented more... but alas, twas not to be. Hindsite... drat!

  11. Been watching Stuart Little 2 and Geena Davis was wearing a very nice pair of red shoes.. but alas I couldnt capture a decent pic.. except this tantalising glance as she walked past the camera.

The other pair.. er... well.. um... personally I would paste it in the ugly shoes thread elsewhere on the board... Oh, excuse the glop.

  12. I bought my first pair of heels when I was serving in the military and could only wear them when I came down on pass. I came down one month and arrived on a friday evening, when I woke up in my nice civvy bed on the saturday morning, one of the first things I remembered was the pair of wedged sandals waiting for my feet in my cupboard. I quickly put them on. What a nice feeling it was after months of army boots. I could hear my mother in the kitchen doing the washing and thought that a quick dash to parents bedroom would be in order, just to renew my acquaintance with heels so to speak and because I needed to find some civvy clothing which was stored in the wardrobe there. I pulled on shorts and a T shirt and listened at the door.. my mother was obviously very busy and wouldnt see or hear me. I dashed into their room.. Ok, not so much dashed, but strutted/stumbled and headed for the wardrobe where the stuff was kept. It was only when I got to the wardrobe that I realised my father was still in bed. He was no longer working on a saturday and there was a good chance that he saw me in my heels. He couldnt miss it as the wardrobe was easily visible from the position that he was laying in. He was awake and I muttered something to the affect of "looking for clothing" and tried to sneak out there as nonchalantly as was possible while wearing heels. He never said anything about it, and I often wonder if he did see me and what he thought. It was a stupid thing to do... and I dont know what excuse I would have used had he questioned me.. I am pretty sure my mother would have done her proverbial nut though.
