  1. I'm still so very worried... What if he takes half an inch off? Let alone a whole inch?! I'm still paying my friend back for these and I have other things I have to purchase like school books and paying rent! I don't want to have to go through the ordeal of purchasing -another- pair and having the new pair cut down just because this cobbler guy cuts too much off... How much do you think would be too much off? An inch would probably ruin the shoes, right? My goodness I'm SO anxious right now.

  2. JimC, Sounds marvelous! I look forward to any pictures you can post and videos would be lovely as well. ;-) I hope you have lots of fun at the party tonight... I can't wait until I'm able to start attending them, if they have any around here that I can sneak out to... A picture of you at the party would be nice as well! Maybe one with you and your bf. On a side note, I'd appreciate it if you could pop over to the thread I posted in the Modifications section... Basically I'm worried about what the cobbler might do to my babies. Any re-assuring words or input would be much appreciated. What have people said to you when you've worn your bboots out in public? Have you even worn them out in public before and if so, where?

  3. So. I have school until noon every day. Am taking 16 hours of classes, if that means anything to those of you familiar with the U.S. college systems. I have a new job as a waitress and love it, and I work evenings. So, I have about an hour and a half of free time each weekday so I've decided to devote at least one half hour a day to practice, not including the time it takes to lace. I am --very-- anxious about getting them back from the cobbler on Tuesday, however, because I am afraid he might cut too much off the heel and ruin the boots. :w00t2: (I posted a thread in the Modifications area to acquire some more information and input about it... I'm curious about how much would be too much to take off of the heel and how much of a difference taking some off will make, from people's experiences.) Anyways, just wanted to let everyone know that I am back after my (too long) hiatus and you can expect a video to be posted by Wednesday night. ;-) It's great to be back.

  4. I'm wondering what it would be like to wear them out in public. I do like attention, but never from lots of people, especially lots of people all at once... (You can imagine how terrible attending graduation was.) What would be appropriate responses to people's questions, I wonder... Could you give us a link to the Australian girls' videos?

  5. Right, I'm back! Here's the deal:

I took my thigh high patent leather ballet boots (Devious Brand) to the only cobbler in my area. I have been told a few times by some people that I'm sure know what they're talking about that I need to get them shortened because Devious makes the heel too long.

I am terrified! The man didn't write anything down when I took the boots to him but we spoke for a minute and I told him just 3/8" and he held his finger up and asked if up to about there would be good and I said okay... I'm really scared that he might take off more than is necessary and that it will ruin the boots and that would be terrible. :w00t2:

So here's my question... What's a range of appropriate lengths to take off of a pair of ballet heels? Some have said that 3/8" is good to take off of the Devious ballet boots and some have said up to a whole inch is okay... How much did you take off your boot and how much of a difference did it make? Did you find it easier to walk in? Do you think that an inch would be too much to take off?

Also, I don't pick them up until Tuesday and it's been so long since I've been able to play in them that I'm really excited and I want to do something to keep myself busy until I get them back. Any stretches or exercises I could do to prepare?

Thanks so much for any help you can give me! ;-)

  6. For all those concerned, I haven't been injured, and nothing terrible has happened. I will be starting college on Monday, so things have been quite busy lately. I'm sorry I'm slacking in my posts on the ladywinterman blog, however I have many many school things to take care of and a routine to settle into before I will be able to return to my project.

I'm not very skilled when it comes to modifying things, so I will have a look 'round for a cobbler. I think that the height of the heels might be a problem; will take a close-up picture and you experts can tell me whether it is too high or not. I don't think the toebox is too big, though... I'll be trying more padding next time because the tops of my toes are getting banged up pretty nastily. If any of you have specific instructions on how to modify the heels myself... I'm a control freak and need to know -exactly- what to do. I'm terrified of ruining the heels before I'm able to even show them off to friends, let alone before I'm able to pay them off. Anyways, if any of you know how to modify them and can give me plenty of pointers, tips, and explanations, feel free to email me at triskatimetraveller@gmail.com.

Thanks for all of your help, encouragement, and general concern! I don't think I could've gotten this far without every single one of you.

  7. Thanks again, all of you, for your support! I've posted another video... I hope you all enjoy it! It's on youtube, and my blog. Also, I'm thinking that I may modify them. What do you guys think? Would that be a good idea? I'm not very creative or handy when it comes to projects, but I'm starting to think it may be necessary. ImeldaBootstross has said a few times that it would be a wonderful idea.... I'm just worried about ruining the boots, you know? I haven't even paid them off and I don't want to have to buy another pair so soon. OH! And since the shoe wouldn't be at such a sharp angle, more weight would be allowed to rest on the heel... Would that make it more vulnerable to snapping?

  8. aw. that's okay! *pets* do you have thigh-high ones? if so, try lacing them up tighter... if you already have them tight, just make sure you're holding onto something and try to straighten your legs out and really concentrate on that for a few moments rather than your balance (that's where the holding onto something part comes into play!)... that's the best advice i can give after only a week... i think it really helps that i rollerblade so much, but also the fact that they were laced up tight around my knees and thighs, so it was kindasorta impossible to bend. bonne chance!

  9. if you're talking 'bout me... tell my doctor that! :o the doctors here in the U.S. are -much- different from those that I've dealt with in England, Germany, Sweden, and South Korea. All of the ones overseas tell me I'm perfectly healthy. But here, even though I exercise as I should and eat healthy (though I somehow can't lose weight :-? ), the doctors keep telling me I need to lose around forty pounds.

  10. well, i'm in the US, so i'm not completely sure, but I purchased my normal size. i have thick calves because I do a lot of running and rollerblading, which builds up a lot of muscle mass, and my thighs are a bit larger than the normal person's... I'm -medically- overweight in America (though my weight is just fine in Europe, America seems to think differently) and I bought thigh-high ballet boots that fit just fine if I lace them properly. is there any way to try some on? that would be best. but if you're buying online, make sure the site has a workable exchange policy! :o

  11. Well done I think you did very well for saying it was your first steps. You seem to be able to straighten your legs which is a feat in itself.

Thanks! And thanks for all the greetings, on here and in PM's.

Straightening my legs was easier than I expected, really. Even on my first day. I'm very happy with myself about that. :o I also made the laces rather loose around the knees and then tight again around the thighs. That may have helped.

Thank you again for all the support! I'm very happy to have found this site.

  12. I'm eighteen and have just been introduced to all of this. :o I recently purchased a pair of ballet boots online, and am really enjoying them. I've decided to keep a log about all of my experiences and what I learn.

You can find my journal here: http://ladywinterman.wordpress.com/

And my first steps in the boots can be easily seen here:

    or on my journal.

Enjoy! And let me know what you think. :-?
