  1. Well, he is actually a nice guy. I saw him glancing at my high heeled sandals again today, only this time no one else was around and he asked if it was difficult to walk my shoes. I said they are actually very comfortable since I am used to heels. He noticed that most of the women in the office would bring flats shoes and sneakers and change into them at times but I wouldn't. We then talked about high arched feet and how some women are just more comfortable in heels than others. I mentioned that I can not stand sneakers or flats, especially with professional attire. He seemed quite interested. I'm happy to share in an interest and I actually feel more motivated to get more shoes now (like I need more motivation).

  2. There is this guy at work who is pretty shy but in a cute kind of way. I have noticed that he sometimes takes extended glances at my shoes, particularly if I am wearing strappy sandals, but he looks a little uncomfortable. I don't mind at all, but I don't want him to feel uncomfortable or anything. I actually like the attention. Should I do anything to make him feel more comfortable?

  3. I also don't think that it's a big deal, as long as it's done tastefully. Most people do not look good in white patent platforms with a 7 inch heel, but many guys look good in jeans and black boots with a 3 or 4 inch block heel. Some women will be fine with it, some women won't, but I think if you're confident and comfortable with it, the women who don't really have an opinion about it will be comfortable with it as well. Best of luck!

  4. I have a co-worker who wants to take me golfing with him and some of his clients (apparently his clients are bad golfers and he wants me there so they don't feel so bad! :winkiss: ). I took golfing lessons before, but that was before I got accustomed to wearing heels all the time. I can stand flat footed, but I can't walk for more than a few minutes in regular flat shoes, and most golf shoes are flat. Most heels and even wedges would look ridiculous out on a golf course. I want to help impress our clients. Does anyone have any suggestions as to footwear? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

  5. Here in the UK there are a number of unwritten rules concerning ladies' shoes in the workplace. Obviously the rules are enforced more in some places than in others.

    1. No open toes or heels (so sandals are out).

    2. Colour to match or compliment the outfit.

    3. Black is the preferred colour.

    4. Boots are streetwear and not suitable in the office.

    5. If you have a female boss never wear higher heels or more expensive shoes than her particularly at formal functions.

    6. If you have a male boss and you know his wife then rule 5 applies to her.

    7. Never wear white tights.

That's interesting. I definitely believe in 2, 3, and 7. I've seen women occassionally wear open toed high heel sandals to work and it seems fine, but I'm not sure. I've personally worn high heeled boots to work when it's cold. I've never heard of rules 5 and 6 though. I have a male boss and know his wife. She's an outdoorsy type and I have actually never seen her wear heels, so I'm definitely going to violating rules 5 and 6! :winkiss:

  6. I just wanted to get an idea what people consider to be work appropriate footwear in office work environments. Of course, some people would consider open toed shoes, sandals, and heels higher than 4 inch never appropriate, but I've seen people pull it off and look stylish. I work in an office environment and just want to see some people's opinions. Thanks!

  7. I usually wear heels that probably aren't the most appropriate for driving. Sometimes I take off my shoes and drive barefoot or in stockings. The time I was stopped by a cop though, I'm pretty sure I was wearing stilettos. (I made a right turn where there was a sign saying no right turns on red) I didn't have to get out of the car though. I think I looked so nervous and scared the cop just gave me a warning and said to drive more carefully.

  8. I woke up this morning with really tight calves. I tried to stretch them while I took a shower, but the stretching didn't seem to really help. The pain didn't really stop until I dressed for work and put on 4" pumps. Then the pain completely went away and I didn't remember about this morning until now. I try to stretch my calves in yoga and aerobics classes, but I guess I haven't been to the gym in about a month. Work has been crazy busy! I guess I'm just amazed how quickly muscles can tighten. I've even noticed that my feet stay arched even when I go to sleep. I guess I should be careful, but it's hard to keep stretching everyday... and I really don't like flats....

  9. Sometimes it helps to just try lots of different brands and styles. I have some four inch heels that I can wear forever while I have some others that may have a lower heel that hurt my feet after a few hours. And sometimes once you find a brand that works for your, it is likely that new styles with the same brand will also work for you. I guess they must use the same last or something. Good luck! Audrey

  10. And it's not just a little more wiggle. If I see a cute guy noticing my shoes and I'm walking, I automatically stand up a little straighter, arch my back a little more, and sometimes even give him a little smile. If I'm sitting, I'll arch my foot a little more and dangle my shoe. I really like it when guys notice my footwear. I mean I would totally rather be with a guy who appreciates my heels as much as I do! But in my experience, women are much more likely to stare at shoes and make comments, probably because we feel safer doing so.

  11. I was just wondering what percentage of guys really like women in high heels, kind of like them, don't care, or dislike them? Of course on this board it might be a little biased. ;) But in the general population, I'm guessing that 1 out of 10 really likes them, most kind of like them, and a few don't care or dislike them? And I wonder too what percentage that really like them on women really like them on themselves too! :cool1:

  12. Are high heels intimidating to guys when they make you taller than him? I recently went out with a guy who I liked a lot, but he said he didn't understand why women would wear heels when they made them taller than their significant others. I guess he must have been referring to me, since I was wearing 5" heels that night with him and they might have made me a little taller than him. He kind of suggested that he would rather me wear flats. I stopped seeing him for other reasons though. Would guys not approach a woman because her heels make her taller than him? I guess it's time for me to find taller guys?

  13. It's been awhile since I've participated. So here is an outfit you will likely find me wearing in London. My style has become slightly more androgynous since I began this thread, but I still maintain a distinction between man/woman in person.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Georgette Silk Twill Top

    layered over victorian vintage shirt

    Inc. skinny pants

    Stuart Weitzman pumps

Please pardon the temporary appearance of my apartment while it's undergoing renovations.

I like the top, but it's very high style and fashion forward, so it only works if you're going to a high style fashion forward place. It'll definitely attract attention like a lot of designer clothing. I don't know that it matches the pumps that well though....

  14. Hi.

I decided to do as the girls do today and wear my boots outside of my jeans in public.

    Black Top - Urban Spirit

    Jeans - Moto

    Boots - Airwalk @ Payless

    Black Pashmina Scarf - H&M

On the most part, people were oblivious to what I was wearing but I did make some heads turn which was fun. None of the reactions I'd say were negative (most were side glances) and I'm actually wondering if people's thoughts of my outfit were good ones. After all, average guys don't generally dress like this. I was trying on some cool 4" heeled vintage boots in a local charity shop and the store assistant apprently gave my girlfriend the thumbs up - which I didn't see because I was too busy trying the boots on (they didn't fit well unfortunately). Ha!

That outfit is really stylish and the pieces work well together! To me, you look really modern and hip.

  15. I don't have any problem with men in high heels. I live in the SF Bay Area so I have seen quite a few men in high heels. Some of the men are Goth types, some gay/tv/tg, some are with their girlfriends/wives. I believe that life is short and as long as you're not hurting anybody, you should pursue what makes you happy. Personally though, I would rather see men in stylish heels, or heels that suit their style. Like a pair of pink patent stilleto pumps do NOT go well with a pair of jeans and a baggy sweater, but maybe a pair of black chunky heeled boots do! And I have seen both! I also think that only really skinny men, (and women for that matter!), can pull off stilettos of any kind. There was a guy working at the MAC makeup counter at Nordstrom who wore stiletto pumps that were higher than anything I could ever wear, but he looked pretty good and was actually kind of cute because they matched his outfit and frame. People who are larger tend to look like tops in stilettos, and they usually look better in chunky heels. But that's just my opinion... Audrey

  16. I was just wondering how much of an affect high heels have had on your career. I work in a corporate type environment and most of the high level people all seem to be really tall. The regular rank and file people all seem to be shorter. I pretty much wear heels to work all the time so that people can look me in the eye, instead of at my hair, but I am still not as tall as most of the other men and women. I have thought about wearing a higher heel, like 4 or 5 inches, or one with a platform, but I'm worried that they'll seem inappropriate. I can't seem to find very many shoes with a 4" or higher heel that seem appropriate for work. I mostly shop at Nine West, Aldo, Steve Madden. So I'm stuck either being short or wearing shoes that are inappropriate....

Does anyone wear 4" or 5" heels to work and do they seem to help or hurt your career?

    Thanks!

  17. I feel like I'm kind of stuck in heels. I wear 3.5" to 4" heels to work everyday as I pretty much have to at my office in order to look professional. I also feel more elegant and confident. I also have some 3" casual heels that I wear at other times or at home. About the only time I don't wear heels is when I go to the gym, aerobics, and yoga classes. I get to stretch out my calves then, but I can't last very long flat footed. My calves, heels, and arches start to ache after just walking around for a little while in flats. I even wear heels to amusement parks when I have to walk a lot! I don't mind though. My feet are pretty much naturally in the high heel position and are much more comfortable in heels than flats. I get lots of compliments at work from men and women about my heels, my husband loves them, and I love them! I do like how I am able to go to the gym, aerobics, and yoga classes without heels though.
