  1. Hi, I bought a bunch of these metal toe protectors for pointy toed shoes off of eBay. They have three prongs that stick into the sole of the toe of a pointy toe to prevent wear. The question I have (sadly obvious to others probably) is how do I put these on? I mean how do I hammer these in? Or what should I put in the toes of the shoes so that I could hammer these in? Also should I use glue as well, or is glue not needed? Thanks a bunch for a pretty novice question. NeatShoes

  2. I didn't think of that, I figured if a parent didn't buy any heels, the daughter wouldn't have any. I wonder if any of the women might want to share about when they started and if they would think it would be okay for their daughter. Don't know if they ran into any problems from starting early. I would think it's pretty bad to get a sprain when you're younger, but not sure how likely that happens if you keep the heels lower.

  3. There should be nothing wrong with this question. It is STRICTLY regarding the safety and appropriateness for children. It's really no different than how short is too short for skirts, or if how young is too young to wear (insert basic common public apparel here). Basically it comes down to, where is the line you draw as a parent? IF there is a line? Is there a difference between spiked heels and non-spiked heels when it comes to appropriateness for children for the same height? Etc, as a parent would you let your child wear 1" mary-janes? 1" wedges? 1" block heels? 1" spiked kitten heels, 1" platform flip-flops? Does the heel style matter at all? Does the height matter at all? Does the style and height combined matter? I'm looking for thoughts and opinions from cultures around the world, and not just from where I live. I'm not looking for pictures, or anything disagreeable that you are insinuating in your reply. It's a very straightforward post, and if you're thinking inappropriate thoughts, then quit reading this thread, and quit suggesting that others here are thinking the same things you're thinking.

  4. Thanks Shoerepairer for your response. Wow 5mm? Where can find shoes of that heel tip-range 5-6mm? I've searched a lot online and offline in malls, but I can't find anything smaller than 8.5mm. If you know, or anyone knows, please let me know a brand name or two. I wonder if it has anything to do with being in the US? It seems like there's some sort of unspoken ban on metal heel tips and thin heels? Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems that metal heel tip shoes exist in decent numbers in the UK? Thanks again! 5. Hi, I was just wondering, what are among the thinnest heel tips you've seen? And do they tend to have thin pins as well? I have a pair that 8.5mm (0.335 in) circular in diameter with a 105 pin size (0.105 in pin), is that about as thin as they come or are there thinner? Thanks again for all the previous technical shoe questions. NS2K

  6. Hi all, this may seem like another silly question, but I bought a pair of shoes in brown, instead of black, the color I wanted because it was the last one of the style in my size. Brown is okay, but I would prefer black. If I ask a shoe repairer to dye it black, will that mess up the interior (closed toe) or get dye all over? Would the dye come off over time and leave brown spots (the underlying color)? Or would it turn out so well that after it is dyed I could never tell later that it was ever brown? Neatshoes

  7. Hi all, I've got another question for you if you don't mind. I have noticed on pointed toe pumps with leather soles, that the bottom of the pointed toe part wears down very fast. I've seen some pumps that have a little metal piece just under the toe, like a mini-toe tap to protect the soles from wear at that point. My question is, do shoe repairers sell those metal pieces, or can I find those on the internet? Can I have a repairer put such metal pieces on? Is there a name for them that I can search with, or refer to when speaking to a shoe repairer? Thanks, NeatShoes

  8. Hi I guess this would be a trivia question to the pros, but I don't know it. I heard that there were 3 standard pin sizes: 120 and 115 are the ones I know of, but I've encountered a smaller size, and do not know what it is. Does anyone know what that smaller size is? Also it seems to me (and I'm just taking a guess), that the sizes are expressed in thousandths of an inch, but please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks.

  9. Is it just me, or do you need to be exceptionally strong to do this? It seems like I need to pull with more strength than my own weight. Is there something that works like a wine-bottle opener to get some mechanical leverage to pull this thing off? Geez, I feel like if you were to do this for a living, you'd have amazingly buff arms. Thanks for your tips, (pun not intended, but welcome) Neatshoes

  10. I've been trying to pull the heel tips off my g/f shoe to replace the tips, but I'm having a really difficult time. I got one tip off, with much effort, and the other I kinda mangled the metal pin, but it is still sticking out, albiet seemingly fragile. I was wondering if there was a special tool out there that I could use to yank these things off, besides grippy pliers I tried twisting a bit to loosen it, but I don't think it was a good idea. How do shoe repairers do this? Any help is much appreicated. Thanks. Neatshoes
