And often the leather one does find these days is scarcely worthy of the name. I’m really pleased that I invested a few pair of custom boots that are made with gorgeous leather, with both boots and leather produced in France.

I totally get the idea of not wanting to buy cheap and nasty made-in-China junk. Good leather is possible to find, but you have to pay out for it.

I hope you don't mind if I ask, but did you by any chance have these boots manufactured by Jean Gaborit?

I like those a lot. Do they come in large sizes?

Yes, they do. Their sizes go up to 47 (EUR) which corresponds to a USA women's size 15. Plus, Italian shoes tend to run about 1 size larger than other European manufacturers. I normally wear size 46, but I have these boots in 45 and they fit perfectly. The sizing table on the Shoebidoo site may help:

My feet are about 28.5 cm long from heel to toe, which number is in the "44" column but since I have rather wide feet I chose one size larger and I'm very happy with the current size of my boots.

Be aware that there are 2 versions of the Vesta boots: I have the Vesta-10 boots (showing on the photo's). These have 10 cm heels on a size 38, but on size 45 the heels are already 12 cm (4.5" - 5''). So the Vesta-10 have high heels, the Vesta boots have VERY high heels 🙂

I hope this was helpful for you!

Those boots are amazing, fit perfectly, look great over the jeans, I'm so envious.  How are they to walk in?

As a matter of fact, surprisingly easy! Yes, the heels are high and in the beginning I felt like I was really standing on my toes but after a little while I got used to them. When I don't have to stand all the time I can wear them for several houls without any problem. I really love the shape of these boots and the nice high quality leather.

I decided to share some more photo's here:

I wanted to post one more photo, but I had to make a different post because of the size limit.

So frustrating!  But, at least they are taking care of the issue and the boots are almost ready.  This is my favorite style as well, I'm so envious

Well, I think the guys from Shoebidoo are doing the best they can. But unfortunately the only thing that the factory in Italy has returned to us up till now is a whole lot of BS. Originally, they told that I would have my boots back in 2-3 weeks. It has been more than 7 weeks now! They have made 3 commitments on sending the boots back, but they didn't fulfill any of them.

So I'm really anxcious if I am going to see my boots back any time...

  5. It's really nice nappa leather, looks like high quality, supple glossy black leather. These boots are Italian made and unlike clothes, shoes and boots from Italy tend to fall large. Normally, I would need size 46 (Eur), let alone for a pair of high-heeled pointy boots. But these ones I bought in size 45 and they fit really well.

They have a sizing sheet on their site which seems to work fine. If your feet length is close to the "end" of a size, take one size larger. If you want to check it out: see www.shoebidooshoes.com

If you want a pair of custom made boots (custom sizings, different color) then you should visit www.sanctumshoes.com

Arrived this week already worn outside.

Bought from Ghigocalzature, one of my favourite sellers of large sizes.

Heels are only 4 cm but the imitation country style on the sharp "feminine" side makes them my new favourite go to boots.

Nice!!! I visited Ghigocalzature a few times, but I did not buy anything there yet. Nice models also tend so sell out quickly in "my" size in my experience. Do they still sell this model?

  6. After 2 decades of beeing without high heels, I finally re-entered the world of high heels recently. I found some really beautiful tall boots with high heels in real leather that I simply could not resist: the Vesta-10 crotch boots made by Sanctum. Coincidentally, these boots are sold by Shoebidoo and this company is located in the next city, about 25 kilometers from where I live. They offer a fitting service, where it is possible to try a pair of shoes/boots and exchange for another size if necessary.

So ordered a pair in my size (they offer large sizes too!) and made an appointment to try them on. They fitted like a glove!

These pictures are from the website:

    sanctum-high-italian-crotch-boots-vesta-with-10cm.thumb.jpg.c498b458f0a8fd1a6ff984d136c88ab4.jpg237814546_sanctum-high-italian-crotch-boots-vesta-with-10cm(1).thumb.jpg.3c1d1b600cf310b756809214a0d88b6a.jpg

The heels for my size are 11.5 cm high (4.5"). There is an inside partial zipper and the boots are very nicely lined with smooth leather that makes it very easy to put them on. Nice touch is that the top part is lined with red leather, so when you look at the back, you can see this nice red color in the slit at the top back of the boot shafts.

As soon as possible, I will share some photos of my own pair. But unfortunately, I had to return them temporarily. When I tried them on at home, I discovered a flaw in the left boot that I did not notice during the fitting. The lining of this boot had too much material that caused an ugly crease in the lining that was also visible through the outside material. After I contacted them, Shoebidoo took the boots back and sent them to the factory to solve the problem. It took alomost 6 weeks, but I finally received a message that my boots are expected to return this week.

  7. Hi,

I was just browsing through the forum and saw your question. This reply is probably way too late, but I will post it anyway because it may also be interesting for others.

Afew years back I ordered the model 115 (Flat crotchhigh boots) from Fernando Berlin. Awesome quality! Real sturdy leather and good finishing.

My experience with the purchase is good. Fernando delivered just in the period they indicated when I ordered. Also, the company now exists for quite some years now and they are expanding their range of models. I can definitely encourage anyone to have a look and buy a nice pair of boots!

  8. You could have a look on www.jean-gaborit.com they have a lot of boot styles varying from classy to kinky. They are also flexible, because they can make boots customized to your demands. However, it takes a lot of time before delivery and it is not cheap.

I bought boots from both companies, and they deliver both good quality. What I like at FernandoBerlin is that their prices are much lower than these of Jean Gaborit. And their delivery time is better... like clockwork.

  9. I see it's already a long time you posted your question, but I will post an answer anyhow.

    Check out Fernando Berlin ( www.fernandoberlinboots.com ).

They do not have a regular store I believe, but they do have an office over there and it is possible to make an appointment for fitting boots.

I have a pair of Fernandoberlin boots (ordered via the internet) and the quality is very good. Almost comparable to Jean Gaborit I guess, but a lot less expensive. The main difference I think is that Jean Gaborit makes boots with leather lining, while my Fernando Berlin boots are single layer. But since the leather is thicker, the quality is comparable.

Have a look at their boots on the site, enjoy!

  10. I have also bought a pair of boots from him. He also has his own internet store:

    www.custom-boots.net

The site is quite simple, no fancy web store, but it does what it should do. I always got quick respons from Miguel Jones when I sent him a question by email.

I bought a pair of roper boots, and also fell into the "mexican size pitfall". But miguel corrected them when I sent them back.

If I had to come up if any critics, it would be that I find it strange that when you buy a pair of boots you supply all foot and leg measurements but the boots are made to a size number anyway.

I made traces of my feet on paper and sent them to Miguel for the correction and this worked fine.

All put together, I found that Miguel is a reliable partner to to business with.

  11. It's difficult to tell if tolerance has increased. I have always had a thing for leather boots. In '95 I bought a pair of black leather boots in Paris. These were really high kneeboots. When pulled up all the way, the top of the shafs were on my knees. These were mens boots though, very much like engineer boots. I decided to wear them over my jeans during my trip back to the Netherlands by train. Mostly people didn't notice or ignored, with two exceptions: When I walked to the station, a small truck with worksmen passed who were eyeballing me as if I was an alien. Second was in Brussels where I had to switch trains, a bunch of kids got really excited (in a silly way) when they spotted my boots. In the years between then and last winter, I wore my boots almost only under my jeans and nobody seemed to notice or care. Then I decided to start wearing my other pair of boots (brown kneehigh boots with zippers) over my jeans. I walked for two days with my boots over my jeans in Disneyland Paris, so enough audience over there.I noticed some people looking at my boots but no real reactions. I only got a few amused glances from one or two women. Now I regularly wear my jeans in my boots. Sometimes I get funny looks from teenage kids, but mostly people don't notice/don't care/ignore. I realize my experience is not completely on-topic because it has nothing to deal with high heels. Probably the tolerance of the public is better when concerning men wearing (mens) boots compared to men wearing high heels. Fact is, 17 years ago I was mostly ignored in my boots, just as nowadays. The biggest difference for me is that I stopped caring about what other people migh think about me. I just wear what I like.

  12. I like both pull-on and zipped up boots. For a long time, I preferred pul-ons because of the undisturbed design of the boot shafts. Now, I tend a bit more to boots with zippers, because they have a better fit at the ankle area. Anyway, I like simple boots without decorations like straps, buckles, fringe or decorative stitchings. Of course it's just my personal taste, but for me boots start te be interesting when they are at lease knee-high. The higher the shafts, the better! I really hate platforms and laced-up boots are very much not my thing, only a small lace at the top back of the boot shaft is OK. Then again, this describes just my personal taste. Everyone here is invited to disagree

  13. I can back up Yozz's story for the most part. In September 2009, I decided to order a pair of custom-made boots in a "self-designed" style. I got decent responds on email questions by Ian and placed the order. Then within a few weeks my creditcard was charged for the full cost (€ 500) of the boots. After that, it became silent for a long time... After having waited for about 2 months, I wrote an email asking what the status of my order was. I got no response. Also no response on the second and third email. At that time, I started to become very nervous, because the 500 euro seemed to be gone and the company that got them dit not respond anymore. After some angry emails and even a fax I finally got some answer from a colleague of Ian, stating they were working on my boots and they would be ready within 2 weeks. Again, time went by but nothing arrived. I started to send emails every day until I got an answer: because of illness they were low on employers so all orders took longer. Ian also wrote that he did answer my emails but I never received those. Which is strange, because in the meantime I had received commercial emailings from Jean Gaborit. Finally, 5 months after the order was placed, I got the boots. They are fine but on some details it looks they did a rush job. In the past, I had ordered boots at Jean Gaborit twice before. Both times there was no excessive delay in delivery and the quality was great. Personally, I find it no problem whatsoever if an order is delayed by circumstances. I only wish that Ian had warned my when placing the order that they had staff problems. Or that he or one of his colleagues had sent me a status update during the wait. And also, I think suppliers should not charge customers's credit cards before they are ready to ship the goods.

  14. I have ordered a pair of boots some weeks ago at custom-boots.net, where I chose the roper tall boots (22" high shafts). These are kind of cowboy boots, but without the pointy toe and with a standard square heel instead of the slanted cowboy heel. So, I'm anxiously awaiting their arrival. Yes, I did not order high heels, but the same site also has boots with high heels. Check it out! I always got a prompt response on my email inquiries, so the company looks OK. I will let you know when they have arrived.

  15. As much as I would like to have it otherwise, I voted "No". I really enjoy the open-mindedness of the people discussing over here towards men wearing high heels. As a boot-lover I did the occasional search for opinions about boots on the web and found that most people (male and female) think that even kneehigh boots are feminine. I have read a lot of dumb narrow-minded reactions that can be summarized with "Men wearing boots are fags". Keeping that in mind, I don't even dare to think what those people would think about men with heels. Sadly, also my spouse does not like the idea of me wearing high heels. So I do wear high boots, but without the heels. Ah, one out of two is not that bad, I suppose...

  16. Personally, I prefer zipped or pull-on boots. I like the simple looks of a pair of long leather shafts without the "disturbance" of laces or decorations. I really don't like laces or buckles on boots. But as I already mentioned, that is just my humble personal opinion and everyone is invited to disagree . The advantage of zipped boots is a better, snugger fit especially around the ankles.

  17. Hello Thighbootguy, I admire your courage to wear your stiletto boots in public. Just keep it up like that! I have 2 pairs of boots that I wear in public. The first pair is very much a pair of "engineer boots" made of black leather. The shafts are just over-the-knee when I pull them up but they drop a little to just under my knees when walking. The other pair is a pair of knee-high brown leather boots with zippers on the inside of the shafts. Like many boots worn by women, their model is loosely based on riding boots. I always used to wear them under my jeans, until a few months ago I decided to tuck my jeans into my boots when I go out in my free time. Basically, I stopped caring about what other people might think about my boots. Occasionally I get an odd look, mostly from teenage boys but mostly I get no reactions. Either way, people ignore my boots or they just do not notice. My wife and daughter are perfectly OK with it. The only thing I regret is that I didn't do this years earlier.
