  1. Please accept my sincerest and most abject apologies. I had absolutely no awareness of any of that. I have no connection with Lolla, and I most certainly do not seek to advertise or promote hir interests in any way. I merely thought to share another resource that would be of interest to the members and germain to the topic.

Considering the intensely sharp metal spike heels I love to wear, I really must find a way to stop putting my feet in my mouth...

  2. Told my wife 7 years ago, after being together for 6 years.

She was more understanding than I thought she'd be, initially. Then after it had sunk in, she said that it disgusted her. She now blocks it out of her thoughts.

"Denial: it's not a river in Egypt." I've been on the wrong end of that, made me feel like a roast beef, when they slice off the tender bits they like and toss the rest in the bin. I was talking with my mates about what we would like to see more of in the world. One said "radical acceptance." Now, isn't that just a mouthful?

I totally envy any of you with understanding partners.

I can certainly relate to that.

Sometimes it really hurts to be so alone........

Sometimes? I hurt all the time. I can't even keep a pet, where I live. Some day, though, the pain will be gone, eventually (I can hardly wait)...

My fiance loves seeing in high heels. We buy matching shoes all the time. As a matter of fact if the store doesn't have my size, she won't buy her size. We are the same size in panties, stockings, and skirts. So we just go all out at home. She loves to do my toenails and fingernails to match her. I love her to pieces.

I have only one word for that: Wow!

I'm in the works of letting my wife know about my being into boots. She owns a pair that i bought for her and she knows i have a fetish for them but not that my fetish also involves me wearing them as a regular fashion piece. We'll see where it goes and i'll post some updates when they become available.

Best of luck, or good fortune, on that.

I recently came out that i'm also into womens jeans and she totally supports me and even took me shopping and picked some out for me so hopefully this will go the same way:nervous:

Sounds promising but, as you suggest (reading between the lines), that doesn't guarantee anything about how she will respond to your love of heels. I tell people that I can never be content to just be a passive observer, a spectator, a "couch potato in front of the television." If something takes my fancy, I want to do it, not just watch. As others have said many times, why should women have all the fun? To hell with "men are to be practical and utilitarian" all the time! To quote Eddie Izzard, "Women wear what they want and so do I."
  3. Wow, Jim, both of those are great! If you really want to get noticed and if there is enough room in the shafts, you can wear those boots cavalry style, over the legs of your riding breeches (or your skinny jeans, failing that:silly:). Especially with those stiletto Via Spiga's, you'll likely attract a few rubbernecks.
  4. No problem. Be sure to check the clearance section. I was able to locate a pair in Red Pat in that section.

No such luck at the two DSWs nearest me, they don't have it in any size or color. Looks like I'm out of luck on that one.:wavey:

I did however stop by Shoe Pavilion though, because it was listed in the telephone directory as a DSW. I bought two pair of these lovely Sable by Boutique 58, in black and red. These are high quality leather, and the patent has a unique texture-- it may be the original (once patented) process that gave it the name, not the usual vinyl coating over leather. Lightly padded footbed, very comfortable as they do not pinch the toes.

I have found quite a site that sells quite a large quantity of women's shoes. They sell the popular ones, like Nine West, Anne Klein, BCBG, Steve Madden, etc. The real kicker of the place is this. Overnight shipping is FREE on some shoe brands/styles.

Clever promotion, which they state is on for a limited time.

It's a website affiliated with Amazon.com and it is called

    www.endless.com

i don't know why they call it that,

Probably because every other .com is already taken.

but it's in it's beta stage, and they have some pretty damn good prices, too!

I like the Boutique 58 Women's Roxana Pump. I'm starting to like this brand.
  5. An appropriate historical true story for this thread.

Nero ordered some fire extinguishers from a mail order company, there was a special offer on: you order them and you get a free gift for prompt order.

Well the promotion was a real success, so much so they ran right out of fire extinguishers. However, the company didnt want to piss their customers off so they thought they'd send the free gifts off anyhow.

    Their reply was:

Dear mr nero, thank you for your order for fire extinguishers, unfortunately they are out of stock at present but in the mean time we are pleased to send you your free violin.....

    Lyre!!
  6. cor have you gone into one!

One thing I've learned from years of hanging out with assertive, strong-minded women, I'm not bashful about saying how I feel!

okay i'm not a pro mediator but think this.....

That's cool, I appreciate your entering the discussion.

1/ some people love to b different and not have the same as others or get it first, like us

The very fact that we hang out here makes us different from the general population. The whole point of this board is the sharing of information and mutual support for our uphill trek, our swim against the tide, or whichever other metaphor comes to mind. Others apparently feel as I do-- I'm really not kidding when I write that the most frequently asked question on this board is "Where did you get them?" All I'm saying is, please think of supporting your mates on the board with useful information when you show off your new purchases.

I'm an information-oriented person. Information (in general) means freedom and empowerment because it gives people options. No one has to rush out and buy what gets pictured and described on this board but, if something takes your fancy, wouldn't you prefer that enough information came along with it that you stood a chance to have one for yourself before it is gone? See how this simile grabs you: posting pictures and descriptions of your latest purchase on this board without including some sort of source or identifying information is like publishing a mail-order catalogue that omits all ordering information.

2/ in the same way as two women wearing them same dress at the same do, its well embarrassing to wear the same as

What are the odds of two of us showing up at the same party in the same footwear, even at a heel meet? Each time we buy a "production" item (whether produced en masse or on a more limited scale), it is certain that someone else out there has another "copy" of it that is just like ours.

3/ others are pleased to share the info, as happened to me when i asked recently

Sometimes, they are. I've seen many other requests go unanswered. And this information is often time-sensitive, because styles come and go quickly. The last time I asked, there was indeed a reply, but far too late...

4/ i'd say show your new ones off and wait 4 the admiring comments...

I say again that if you go to the amount of effort required to do that on this board, please have the thoughtfulness to post some useful information along with it.

one day i'll show mine off, not loads of, gotta suss how to upload pics

You essentially have two options. One is you can ask the board mods to create a folder for you in the members' gallery. Unfortunately, though, we have little control over what we may post and delete (or have deleted for us) there. The other and more common option is to open an account with an image hosting service. You then upload your photos to your account on the service, and then link to them in your posts. Since these services exist to support boards like this one that permit image and URL links, they usually provide convenient bits of code that you can paste directly into your posts, which will do the job for you. These code snips usually place a thumbnail image in your post, which your viewers can click to see your full-sized image (along with lots of advertising, which supports these "free" services). Or, you can use your browser's features to discover the URL of the full-size image on your hosting service, and insert that link in your post.

in the mean time try Aldo style Bignona 95

That is actually more useful than posting a photo-- not only can I search that out to see the photo, but I can order it, too.
  7. I just tried my boots on to answer this question, and yep that is a nice feeling when they have the lining inside which you mention.

We've mentioned several. Which do you prefer?
  8. My guess is that 1) it didn't go well, that mom didn't appreciate our support nor our "putting ideas in your head," because otherwise he would be here wanting to tell us of his success; 2) the computer didn't get smashed, because they are still too expensive, but she did tighten the screws, and his 'net access got curtailed-- either cut off entirely, or it's being monitored. The fact that he's not accessing hhplace from the library to tell us what's happening suggests to me his mom is really making it miserable for him.
  9. Cool! So glad you like them. When I've saved up a bit more cash (after having just spent myself into poverty on some gorgeous boots), I will have to drive over to their store and see them for myself. Hah, nothing like buying boots in June, and mules in October...
  10. I've just never seen it discussed one way or another about the lining in boots.

There is a thread about it in the lady's room. Nylon is okay, at least it breathes, but the foam rubber padding they usually have behind the nylon deteriorates after just a few years, and becomes sticky/gummy/oozing. I have a few pair of boots now that have a very soft fur lining inside, which are an absolute sensual delight to wear against the skin. Other than that, I prefer soft leather, with hose to provide breathability.
  11. ...

and told me of how they never kiss/hug/make love with their husbands because "all men are cheating b**tards", etc, etc, etc.

I've been so overexposed to that sort of male bashing that I have no tolerance left for it. I have no trouble telling women how I feel about that sort of bigotry, and that nothing will cause me to drop a relationship quicker. I prefer to be alone, and lonely, than to be subjected to that sort of violence.

    Coincidence then

Scarcely, which, I think, was your point.

that she now hates my shoes and our sex life took a nose dive with comments like "other than having children, sex is dirty and perverted, its all you think about".

    ...

It may be time for a new gf because one thing is for sure, the shoes are here to stay!!

If I may suggest a parting shot for when you leave, I think she would feel much safer and more secure in a male-free environment, with other women for all of her relationships.
  12. Hi all! Was away for a bit and didn't catch all the action. I apologize for not putting in more information about the shoes.

Thank you. Most of us like to wear them, not just look at them. For anyone who Posts Pretty Photos of themselves Posing in their Purchases, Pretty Please won't you Provide details so that we might be able to have a Pair as well, and not be left to just Pout, not to mention drooling all over our keyboards?

The ones in red are actually called Sally2 (that's what it says on the box). They were purchased from DSW. I still see them in few of the the stores that I visit. However, they don't have it in Red Pat anymore. They do have black pat and black leather.

There's a DSW or three near me, I'll go have a look tomorrow. No luck with that info on Google. Great, so now I get to wonder about what the customer service rep at guess.com wrote to me.

    Hope that helps

Thanks, I'll go have a look.

What size are you looking for? Zappos has some in stock in 10 and 11. I just checked the site.

You found these, with the bow, on Zappos?

    Posted Image

Can you provide a link? I looked at all the Guess shoes for women at Zappos (or at least I think I did), and I didn't see them. I usually take a size 9, but sometimes can wear pumps in a 10 without their falling off my feet if I wear socks with them.

so i take it that Guess made more than one version of the "Carrie" pump? I know Macy's has them. It's on their website. They do look a lot different than the beautiful red ones in the photos.

    Wellp, I wrote...

I don't know about FREAKING, but I sure would love to have a pair. I wrote to Guess to ask if they still make it. They wrote to say "Unfortunately we no longer have that shoe available that is the old style Carrie. You can try Zappos.com."

I take that to mean that they discontinued the one style and came out with a different one under the same name. But your guess is as good as mine. You have all the same info I have; I put between the quotation marks everything that Guess customer service wrote to me. After what Heelsftw wrote about seeing "Sally2" on the box, even that much is in doubt.
  13. It seems to be the most Frequently Asked Question in all of the forums in this board: Where did you get/find/order/buy those?" What a waste. Why does this question constantly need to be asked? Most of the people who post here seem to like to wear these shoes and not just look at them, but too many of the people who show us their new purchases seem to expect us to just "Ooooh" and "Awww" at them, and perhaps even drool over them a bit. To be quite blunt, showing off your new pride-and-joys without telling your mates on the board where you got them, especially if there are more available, and especially by mail order and/or at a large chain store, strikes me as thoughtless at the very least, to downright rude.:wavey: Think about it-- you have the time and energy to photograph them and yourself posing in them, upload your photos to an image hosting service, write it all up in a post here where you have to insert the links so we can see them, but then omit a source where we can get them too? Puh-lease... Perhaps we need yet another courtesy-promoting policy on the board: we don't get to show off our "to die for" purchases without also posting our sources, sort-of the way we expect the author of an essay to cite some sources. Oh, by the way, if you are one of the ones here who regularly does share your sources, 1) thank you, 2) obviously, you are not who I am griping at.

Okay, I'll climb down off of my soap box, now...

  14. 4. What instrument whould like to learn to play?

    Probably the theremin.

    ...

Brian Wilson and Mike Love of the Beach Boys were both interested in the theremin, and used various versions in several of their recordings, including Good Vibrations. There is a well-made and interesting documentary film about the theremin, that I had the chance to see in a small art theater.

    ...

(for those of us who have been around long enough to remember AM and shortwave radio -- or vacuum tubes for that matter).

When I took electronics shop in high school, they were still teaching vacuum tube theory. High voltage semiconductors were not yet widely available, so that television sets still used tubes and, though the field effect transistor was commonly available, one still used a VTVM (Vacuum Tube VoltMeter) for the highest imput impedance available. There, that ought to date me!

I'm only 21, but HEAVILY into vacuum tubes, amps, old radios etc. Right now, I'm restoring "Tatry" [a Polish 50's receiver, quite popular], but it's possible that I'll eventually get some pre-WWII stuff.

Cool.. I still have my Fisher 500-C stereo receiver, a family hierloom from the 1960's. There is an electronics swap meet that meets once a month not too terribly far from where I live, where it is possible to find new vacuum tubes for as little as a dollar each. I have succeeded in replacing most of the failing tubes in my Fisher from this source, so that it sounds great. It is only within the last 10-15 years that semiconductor technology has advanced to where it can produce as noise and distortion-free a sound as this great old receiver.

I always find it refreshing to hear of continued interest in the old technology. Tubes are just fascinating.

I find the history to be even more interesting. Thomas Alva Edison generally gets the credit for discovering the one-way valve effect that vacuum tubes function on when he inserted an extra element in his light bulbs. John Ambrose Fleming discovered that this effect could be used to detect radio waves, and developed the first viable vacuum tube, which he called a "diode" but became more commonly known as the "Fleming valve."

There seems to be no doubt that Lee de Forest was the first person to add the control grid to Fleming's valve, which added amplification to radio signal detection, but it seems that all of his other claims to being the originator of the developments that came out of it were surrounded in controversy. The regenerative amplifier circuit, invented by Armstrong and claimed by de Forest (perhaps de Forest first conceived it, and Armstrong first built it) made a one-tube radio receiver possible. The audio amplifier version of this invention couldn't have come at a better time for Bell Telephone, whose patents on the original technology had just expired. Vacuum tube audio amplifiers made long-distance telephony possible, the newly-formed AT&T viable, and kept Bell's interests competitive as he transitioned into long-distance services. To this day, AT&T still functions in its initial inception as a long-distance carrier and patent-holding company. de Forest's claims to an original optical sound-on-film technology seems also to be controversial, depending upon which article you read.

Even today, vacuum tubes are not quite yet obsolete. Cathode Ray Tubes used in television receivers and computer displays still have some advantages that have not yet been equaled by flat screen technologies. Semiconductor technologies still cannot handle the kilowatt requirements of commercial radio and television broadcasting (the final stage RF amplifiers in these transmitters use huge water-cooled vacuum tubes),

nor has it replaced the magnetron in the microwave oven and radar equipment.

Now back to the musical theme:

When people asked me if I played anything I always answered: yes -- turntable, tape deck (CD-player later on). . .

When I was a child, I used to play on the linoleum...
  15. The Carrie 2 has a longer toe. I like the original better myself. A quick search shows the Carrie available at Zappos and at Nordstrom but nobody has that red patent with the accent. I think they're hot and I love them.

I searched more extensively on fleaBay and Google in the hopes that someone might have a few pair left. No joy at all. Heelsftw posted about them in April and they are apparently all gone already.

Well, they're still beautiful. I'd even say that they appeal to me more- maybe because of the bow on the old version... I didn't like it too much.

Too feminine, perhaps? The new ones are too plain for my tastes-- I already have plenty of plain courts. The cut-aways at the arches don't help them that much, in my opinion. But what I dislike most is the new inelegant heel shape-- these would look better with the classic tapering stiletto.

The original style has simple, classic lines. The toes are pointy, but not excessively long. The bow decorations are understated, which is highly unusual-- bows, when designers put them on the vamps, tend to be big and floppy. And white sets off the red patent to perfection-- I don't think they would look half as good in any other color or texture.

"Cute" and "sweet" may be qualities that you do not want in heels for yourself, and I can understand that. But it's the rare pair that succeeds in fitting that description without being pretentious. I doubt that I would want to wear them outdoors, but it would feel good to be able to look down and see them adorning my feet!

  16. Went shoe shopping yesterday with my wife... she bought a couple of pairs of nice heels for herself and then she got me a really nice pair of heels.

These shoes are really beautiful! They're quite comfortable as well. They're size 8US, made by Guess. Although they were for me, I have a feeling that my wife will be wearing them more than me heheheh. But hey, it's the thought that counts

I am going to FREAK if i don't find a pair of those fast!! They are HOT!!!

    Posted Image

I don't know about FREAKING, but I sure would love to have a pair. I wrote to Guess to ask if they still make it. They wrote to say "Unfortunately we no longer have that shoe available that is the old style Carrie. You can try Zappos.com." Zappos doesn't have it on their website, and they don't have access to inventory information in their outlet stores. In other words, I'm just plain SOL. I couldn't even find them listed on fleaBay. You are one lucky guy (well, soon as you manage to pry them off of your wife's feet, that is). Thanks for another photo to add to my "The Ones that Got Away (and that's no fish story!)" gallery. Sigh...

    Hi all!

Just wanted to share with you the latest addition to my closet.

This is "Carrie" by Guess. I was very attracted to these shoes for some strange reason. My wife knew about it and bought these for me as a small gift. Boy did she make my day :wavey:

These are about 4" high on a size 8.5 and they're quite comfortable to wear... just as what owners of these beauties said in their reviews.

    Posted Image

These are the new Carrie, listed at Zappos as "Carrie 2." In my opinion, they are nowhere near as flattering or attractive as the previous style.
  17. . . . and it's an effective way to sand down your heels for a re-finish!

Yeah, you can polish the heel covers right off of them. More likely, though, you'll get the same "peeled banana" look you get from aerating people's lawns.
  18. My new girlfriend is enjoying my shoe fetish (heels on her, that is) but seems to like me picking them out. On the other hand, I want to get her shoes that are comfortable for her. Are there any brands that you women find are more wearable than others? ... more comfortable, or better-made?

While the brands that build reputations for high quality do have a better chance of being more comfortable, better looking, and more durable than "cheap knockoffs," this is not necessarily always the case. Even good brands can produce "lemons," and brand consciousness can cost you many terrific bargains-- high quality, beautifully designed shoes that are "sleepers" because they are labeled with a brand that you ordinarily would not consider, or have never heard of before. RPMindy, who I quote below, has what I think is a more effective approach, which is a set of criteria he looks for in the shoes he considers for purchase.

Everyone has different shaped feet and so you cannot recommend a shoe that is comfortable on one person to be comfortable on someone else, it has to be trial and error.

When it comes down to your buying decisions, which should include wearing your new shoes at home on carpet for a while until you are sure, I would have to agree with that. However, I think it is possible to say a few things in general in terms of guidelines for selecting shoes that are most likely to turn out to be comfortable. RPMindy has done exactly that, and written the beginnings of an outstanding guide to buying comfortable heels. I think I can, however, add to what he's already written.

Good heels are like good hand tools, in this sense: both, when well designed, do as much of the work as possible, making life easier for the user. An example in the tools arena are the ergonomic handles being put on everything from tennis racquets to tooth brushes. Likewise, well designed heels provide support for and relieve strain from the feet, ankles and legs as much as possible. Assuming that one is going to be standing and walking all day, the difference shows in how sore and fatigued your muscles, joints, tendons, and ligaments become by the end of the day.

I look at many factors beyond brand to pick a comfy heel for her. (and i've only twice not hit a comfy shoe)

I look at the material.. does it have some give, but not too much give.

The whole deal about this animal/vegetable-derived materials vs. petroleum-based long-chain polymer plastics debate, it seems to me, is how quickly (if at all) does the material shape itself to the feet. In an ideal world, we could all afford to have our shoes custom made by expert cobblers who know us well, on lasts made from recent castings of our feet. In the real world of mass production, a good fit at the store is usually just the beginning of the story. If the shoe is already close to a perfect fit, then the adaptability of the material may not be so important. But elasticity and "memory" are important qualities when the material needs to be stretched in specific areas and directions. And yes, there has to be a balance between enough "give" to adapt and enough firmness to provide support.

I look at the at the stiffness of the heel and sole of the shoe. I want a flexible sole at the front with padding inside the shoe..

Again, there needs to be a compromise between a sole that flexes enough to walk in, with one that is rigid (firm?) enough to provide support. The smaller the heel point (stiletto), the more a low-flex sole will relieve side-to-side ankle strain. With many single-soled stilettos, the sole becomes rounded. It requires as much ankle strength to keep these heels vertical as it does to stand in ice skates. Modest platforms (no more than an inch thick) are actually easier and less stressful to walk in because the flat sole and rigid support from the sole, through the arch, and to the heel relieves most of the side-to-side ankle strain inherent in most single-soled stilettos. I just bought such a pair of (stacked wooden sole and stiletto heel) platforms; even though they are slingbacks and lack the support of enclosed heels, they do not feel like stilettos.

and i want a much much stiffer arch support and a heel that doesn't wobble under pressure!!! (that is realy critical for her longer wear)

That cannot be over-emphasized. Rigid, solid arch support connected to a heel that does not flex or wobble is crucial to proper support of the foot and ankle. Lack of this support is actually dangerous, and can result in a twisted and sprained or broken ankle.

A factor of shoe design that I seldom see mentioned on this board is, for want of a better term, the way the arch is balanced. It's the sort of thing that can make a well-balanced pair of 5" heels feel like walking in flats, and a poorly balanced pair of 4" heels feel precarious and produce muscle fatigue within minutes. One of the more obvious things I've noticed is that, in some shoes, the "arch" is a straight incline from the ball of the foot to the heel, while others have a true curving arch that raises high to fit and support the arch of the foot, and then levels out to support the heel. Footsmart makes a 3/4 insole that provides arch and heel support in shoes with a "flat incline" arch.

I look at how much toe-cleavage there is... the more cleavage, the less support for the toes.. the more pressure on the toes

That's another tradeoff-- boots provide the most support, strappy sandals (especially those with only one or two straps) the least.

i look at the toebox shape.. the more closely it resembles the shape of her feet (bear withe me here).. the better it is. she likes pointy shoes.. but not all pointy shoes are pointy the same way. some are pointy favoring the big toe.. others are pointy favoring the middle toe. given her foot shape.. i need one that favors the big toe.

Seems natural to favor the big toe because it's...bigger. Lots has been written about good fit, and that definitely includes the toebox shape. There are all sorts of tricks for producing an elegant, aesthetically pleasing toebox shape and still leaving enough room for the toes.

I know she's a bit flat footed.. and i look for a shoe that has a bit of an arch built into the shape of the middle of the shoe.. i find that those are more comfy for her and she feels more confident in them.

Good arch support is important to prevent flat feet. Plz. see above.

for 'open' shoes (beit open side.. open toe.. open back... ex slings).. i make sure the shoe isn't going to be biggish on her so that her foot fits snugglly.

Even on closed courts (and most styles excepting boots and sandals), a snug fit is necessary to keep the shoe on the foot, and to provide adequate support. This is another tradeoff-- snug enough to provide support, without pinching the toes.

lastly.. the inside sole.. is it padded.. gel or foam..and how extensive is the padding.. does it go into the toebox or stops short..

We are finally starting to see padding in more than just platforms. Ariat has managed to revolutionize the world of equestrian riding boots by adopting many of the technologies originally developed for athletic shoes. Someone may eventually adapt them to create high-fashion heels that feel more like trainers.

in the toebox.. is there a 'print' of a foot or not. (the 'print' helps her foot not slide forward into the toebox and hence less toe squeeze).

I've thought of that, but have never actually seen that feature in a pair of heels. Even something to cup the ball of the foot would help to prevent the foot from sliding forward. Aftermarket padded inserts do not do the job. That is another feature we could hope becomes more common.

RPMindy -- it sounds like you know your lady very well. You know what she looks for and likes in shoes and you are fortunate to have each other in your lives. May you continue to grow closer.

While I share your sentiments concerning their togetherness, I want to re-emphasize that what RPMindy has described are some basic guidelines and general principles that apply to anyone, and not just some criteria that are specific to his girlfriend.
  19. i agree what youre saying well enough, but for me the comfort is better than flats, i'm not selfconcious about it, i wear them most of the time, and indeed flats seem odd... so hence forgetting i'm wearing them at times

I know what you mean about the odd feeling, when I go barefoot or back to flats (usually trainers) after even only a few hours of wearing heels, I can feel my tendons stretch. I guess it doesn't take very long for them to begin to shrink.
  20. Great post indeed.

I like his skirt. I also think the heels are a bit fetishy. I'm not a big fan of fetish heels.

I think everyone knows how I love metal spike heels. Eventually I may develop the brass to wear mine in public!

    "outlandish" = great word :-)

I always thought the expression arose in the midwestern US, but "outlander" and "outlandish" are apparently borrowed from the Afrikander Dutch uitlander.
