1. I think you are right that we're seeing a new way to wage war, the employment of terrorists as the main attack. But the general principle of terror is the same as that employed in WW2 in the terror bombing campaigns of the Luftwaffe and later Allies. For the most terror in WW2 was not effective as a means to break the enemy morale until the level of destruction reached became obscene (think Hiroshima)... and hopefully it never gets to that level in Israel or anywhere else.

 3. Hmmm. I'm a natural 6'2". So I think the ideal height for a woman for me is probably 5'7" to 5'9", so she can wear 4"-5" heels and be just a bit shorter than me. Achilleus

 4. Does it seem to anyone else that high heels have doubled or tripled in popularity over the last 6 to 12 months? It seems to have coincided with a rise in popularity of boots, which perhaps were more comfortable to new heels wearers than were pumps or sandals. In any event, whereas in the past most fashionable women were wearing chunky 2-3" heels, I now see large numbers in 3-4" thin heeled shoes and boots (I live in New York). Even more surprisingly, the number of heels has actually increased since 9/11 - I expected heels to vanish in Manhattan in the aftermath of the attacks, but it seems like there's been a 'return to feminity' or something in response. 5. I was living in New York when it happened. However bad it seemed on TV, the shock and terror were far worse to those of who lived in the city. To this day, many New Yorkers don't like to take the subway or cross the bridges anymore. The Empire State Building is still losing tenants because nobody wants to be in the next target. I was dating a girl who worked in the Amex building next to the WTCs - I didn't hear from her for 6 hours after the attack because the phone lines were jammed. As it turns out, she wasn't there, but she was so close she saw the people jumping out of the windows. Several close friends got forced out of their apartments by the smoke and particles in the air. There were bomb scares all across New York City that night and we kept expecting another building to go down. 9/11 is going to effect the world for a long time. There will be more attacks; America will be hurt again and will lash out again. It is not going to end swiftly; it will be with us for a decade or more to come, like the War on Drugs or Israeli-Palestine conflict. To paraphrase the great Churchill, beating the Taliban was not the end. It was just the end of the beginning. Achilleus

 6. Laurie, its very interesting to read your diaries and see how the goal of full-time in heels impacts simple things in life, like driving. Thanks again for sharing your diary with us. Here's a question for you if you have time. Is your sister aware of your training in heels? How about other family or your close friends? If not, is it because you think they'd react negatively? When you do end up being in heels full time, do you think you'll let your loved ones know that you've made a lifestyle choice, or will you just not say anything and let them reach their own conclusions? 7. Time to stop lurking and start posting to show my curiosity and interest in the diary, I guess. I'd love to hear more about the trainer, and also details about your long-term goals for your training, what inspired you to do it, etc. Achilleus _________________ Who dares wins -- Motto of Special Air Service [ This Message was edited by: Achilleus on 2002-03-05 07:27 ]
